I am not surprised, but I would be very upset to see Big lot close here in Michigan, My husband and I are always shopping there and they have a lot of good deals and it's close to my house, God please help this world and keep us safe from all evilness and stress, anxiety ✝️🇺🇸🤔
Keep in mind that the AOL Time Warner merger and its executive, the late Jamie Kellner, was the one who killed World Championship Wrestling in 2001 once WWE stepped in and buy its competitor.
I really miss Rite Aid in my city! There were only four of them and Walgreens pushed them out! Then Walgreens started cutting their numbers, so it was a double loss! Big Lots was great, too for unique things and fun gifts! They are still around, but too far away from me to travel to!
I miss couple of them especially Hi fi buy circuit city but Hifi buy had high end stuff like compact Lazer disc and real bose system long with caver system and late 90s to early 00s did home theater I visited them and dream about putting one in my house that kind of stuff I hate seeing go away
@@undergroundretail not a damn thing. I checked tax records (yes, I'm a real estate nerd) and they've been paying north of $12 Gs every year, with a number of notable late fees. but no, the building itself is unchanged in bomb-shelter glory
@@WillPollock Interesting. A few people reached out and asked me for Blueprints I had found and scanned in, but those have since been lost on my old Laptop and when I moved houses
I didn't know that Big Lots was even a chain. There is one in my neigh.... but it's so hodge-podge'y.... I just thought that it was the only one. - I suspect that major shoplifting losses is the reason why stores are closing. No store can stay open if they don't make any money.
I’m still saddened to see 99 Cents Only Stores finally closing down! Some very good pastimes of my younger days towards bargain hunting on cheap college supplies.
some of these are due to poor management failure to remodel stores/update inventory etc. there some larger Macy's stores that aren't in malls I.E. Macy's Downtown Crossing Boston Ma which until 1996 was Jordan Marsh's flagship store
I,just finished watching your video about Stores Disappearing. I,am now Retired from Working in Retail. I've worked for 5,Retail Chain Stores, and here's the List of Stores that I worked for: 1.Great,Scott !,which is Kroger. 2.Hudson's, which is Macy's. 3.Montgomery Ward's, Store Closing Permanently and went Out of Business. 4.Kmart,Store Closing Permanently, and Kmart is on the way to Going Out of Business. 5.Meijer,worked at Meijer, and I Retired from Meijer after working 16,years, in 2012. Meijer Superstores are Based in Grand Rapids, Michigan and have Stores in 6,States and still Open for Business to this very day. I,have been working in Retail since 1973,until I Retired in 2012,and I have, been Through Mergers and Store Closings. 13:27
Yeah, and it looks like more Big Lots locations is closing this year, and the Kmart location in Bridgehampton, NY is closing next month on October 20th (the last full size location in contiguous mainland US). The last (but smaller) location will be in Miami, FL in contiguous mainland US at the Kendale Lakes Plaza. Even I've seen all the Redbox machines in my local shut down back in July of 2024 after the company announced that they would stop doing the physical entertainment rental machine business. However as to this day today, many Redbox kiosks are still operational (but no longer operating in my local after July of this year in 2024).
Wow that’s a lot of stores, I’ll be sad if CVS goes away I liked how small it was with a comfterable feeling when going in. They got the best greeting cards by Hallmark, and American Greetings. Specifically my favorite Hoops and Yoyo. It seems like Macys is only really focusing on pulling out of mall stores and may focus on single locations, otherwise this could help the company and the iconic brand. I honestly never heard of Redbox until recently I wish I knew more about the company sooner and their kiosks. Great video, you’re basically the channel I go to for updates on the retail market. (Also nice adding my childhood mall in video Northlake Mall in GA). Have a nice day 💜🐶💜
These companies have every right to no longer have Diddy associated with them. The whole notion of “everyone has skeleton’s in their closet” is an insane defense. Those so called skeletons may not be freak offs, 1000 bottles of baby oil or beating the brakes off an ex.
I don’t know what’s more fascinating, the amount of times that man has failed upward, or the amount of people that find failing 10+ times is smart business acumen. If the CEO of a retail store sent ten stores into the ground, we’d be asking how he or she managed to get the job the 3rd time let alone more smh
Growing up in MI, we had Perry Drugs which was acquired by Rite Aid. Now it’s leaving the entire state?! Wow. Also, that was such an unfortunate name for a furniture store 😂
I moved to Decatur in 1994, and had lived near Northlake Mall (longest in this area for 20 years), Avondale Estates and currently near North DeKalb Mall on the other side of Lawrenceville Hwy. I do agree that even up into the 2000’s North DeKalb Mall was nice to visit (especially the theater and the bookstore), but even in the 2000’s that mall really was showing it’s age really badly (the last time I went there was June 2022 to see the 3D version of the last “Jurassic World” film). I know the pandemic also didn’t help - Northlake is also in a lot of trouble. I kind of like the current Lulah Hills plan, but that theater seems to be stubborn not to close. This area definitely needs new housing, green space, restaurants and retail options and NOT in a mall format.
