You forgot about Lafayette Radio Electronics Corporation. That's where my dad bought me Heathkit electronic kits for hobbyists.

Great Suggestion! I almost included them, but Federated took their spot.

Wow, talk about a blast from the past. I bought my parents their first color tv from Silo. Spent some money at Crazy Eddies, and of course Radio Shack.

Yeah I can only remember Fry’s Electronics and HH Gregg. The rest of these I’ve never been to or I was to young to remember them. It will be good to see some of these I think my favorite one you will talk about is Incredible Universe, it’s not known by a lot of people actually only lasted from 1992 to 1997 so for only 5 years and I’m pretty sure it was founded by Radio Shack.

I still have two Radio Shack stores near me... They're not what they used to be, but I managed to get a needed capacitor at one of them earlier this week.

Radio Shack was the only one I've been to. Most of the other stores were located in different regional areas.

Back in the 80s, a "home entertainment system" was a big deal with lots of bulky components wired together flanked with big floor standing speakers and racks full of playable media. Now, even the cables are gone due to wireless tech being easier and cheaper than copper wires. You just need a big TV, easily toted home at a whim from Wal-Mart, a "sound bar" package or Bluetooth speakers, combine with your phone and some streaming subscriptions and that's it.

I was just thinking the other day about how the internet actually made it less convenient to get the things we need now and radio shack was my prime example. Like yes the internet does provide the ability to buy things at a cheaper cost and our options have opended up a bit but there are some MAJOR downsides to all this. First off it seems like the products we buy is almost always a garbage product that is made to inferior standards and when things inevitably go wrong we are just outta luck. There is no easy returns now. Buying something quickly is a thing of the past now, everything takes at a minimum 4 days to arrive to your doorstep and that's IF it arrives in 1 piece. You now no longer can physically see something before you buy it and yes things can be returned I totally understand that, but WHY

Wow, speaking of now defunct electronic stores, I went to RadioShack a long time ago back in the 2000s (all of them have since closed in my local), at least another electronic store chain, but only has video games, GameStop is still around to this day today. I even saw Future Shop locations as well in person, back when I went to Canada back in the 2000s visiting my Filipino relatives there in the Toronto, ON metropolitan area, but I never went inside at any of the locations there back when they were around at that time in the country in Canada, after it left the United States in 1999 (it closed all locations in my country in my birthyear that year).

@@undergroundretail Oh yes, I forgot to mention that, there was also ones in my local, as well as in Canada, all of them have since converted to a GameStop in the U.S. and years later in Canada in 2021. They're still in Australia as of the present day.
