Lets just say vocal nodules didn't help Mariah, causing her to adjust in different ways (each year). That's why I think her voice sounded different every year.
This was around the same time she did Endless Love with Luther Vandross in Royal Albert Hall (RAH). Listen closely to all the falsetto "you's" that she does here. They are near identical to the ones she does in Endless Love in RAH. This time period, in my opinion, is her vocal prime.
You can tell her this is 1994. Her voice changed so much since 1993, just like 1996 from 1995. You could blindfold me and I would be able to tell which year it was based on her voice.
I do believe this is Mariah Carey’s best performance of this song. The reverb of the environment adds to the power that she puts behind her pitch-perfect vocals.
