Can you try to not delete any dual types overlaps in a game with only 150 mons for ONE SECOND? Like, no Geodude with Brock, no Victrebeel with Erika. What's the point even, why making the teams for the gym leaders if you ain't even taking the gym leader in question as consideration, why not just make new teams for hipotetical gym leaders with those typings if you are just removing pokemon that fix the team like it's nothing? And then substituting those iconic pokemon by pokemon that DON'T EVEN HAVE THE GYM'S TYPING like Scyther and Voltorb on Koga's! What's up with that?
I think klawf would look way better with dark blue/sea green accents (hair) to complement the green better (which also I think should be a little bit lighter)
Not here to criticize any picks, we actually overlap a lot lol. But Arcanine is absolutely top tier competitively, he’s been one of the best mons in VGC almost every year and is OU/UU in basically every Smogon year. Also Bastiodon is also 4x weak to Ground not just Fighting.
Yeah, don't get me wrong, it's very good and can easily hit the top 10 fire types and sometimes the top 5, but by "Not top tier" I was referring to the fact that many other fire types (At the time) were a more desirable pick. Namely Torkoal, Incineroar, Volcarona, Heatran, etc. Arcanine is very consistently decent though .
I see why Exeggutor was added to Erika’s team and the representation behind it. Tangela the pure grass type represents Erika and the Celdaon City gym being grass. Vileplume who is both Grass and Poison represents if the player chooses to head for Fuchsia City to face Koga next that poison types are what they will be up against. Exeggutor being grass and psychic represents if the player decides to go towards Saffron City to challenge Sabrina afterwards that psychic types await in the gym. Since both Koga and Sabrina’s teams have the same Base Stat Totals as you mentioned, this reinforces Erika and Celadon City presenting a fork in the road for the player.

I really love your take on your Pokemon teams; especially Giovanni cause THAT was AMAZING! However, I just have 3 main complaints on your perspectives that aren’t really super serious. 1. Unless you have Brock’s team, all teams should have 4 moves. 2. I would love it if Lt. Surge would also have a Machoke on his team. Replacing Pikachu with it would give Surge another way to fight against trainers with rock types while also helping Fearow out against diglets. (Also remember the old man with the Machop working on the plot of land? Be a nice way to tie him to Lt Surge). 3. Replace Tangela with a Butterfree. Butterfree is a good aesthetic for Erica and could give type coverage. Tangela just doesn’t do enough for me as a Pokemon; well at least in the Red, Blue, and Yellow series. Really REALLY love your take on the Gym Leader’s teams! Gonna subscribe to you.❤🔥🔥🔥
For Bugsy I've heard its possible due to his research, he keeps Metapod and Kakuna to see if they learn any more moves which is why they are past their evolution levels. For Jasmine, maybe she picked up the Magnemite in the Kanto Power Plant before the changes since in Gen 1 you can catch Magnemite around those levels she has. For teams I would keep Morty a Ghost specialist but give him Noctowl or Stantler since they're mystically-ish. Mismagius his ace in the remakes. I'd give Pryce an Octillery since you never really see it in-game and its a good resistance to counter Fire Types. Clair like others say I agree she is Sea Dragons. So I gave her a Politoed (feels to fit with her) and Lapras instead of Aerodactyl and made like a Rain Team for her.
For all new players, the old rod can be adquire in the market in Viridian city, there's a fisher man inside the market who gives it, Poliwag and Goldeen can be catch in the small podle in Viridian city
i think one should start with the originals (either r/b or regular yellow) to know what we started with and from. and this will be a good thing for replays. smith said the same thing iirc
I think Falkner in their mind was a “pure flying” expert, so it makes sense for him to having normal/flying Pokémon (pure flying didn’t exist). I wouldn’t give him Murkrow. Maybe Spearow, Hoothoot and Farfetch’d as an ace? I know it’s weak and Kantonian 😅
For Lt. Surge I always felt Electabuzz should have been on his team instead of Pikachu. What are your thoughts on Jolteon in place of Voltorb? I like the addition of Exeggutor to Erika’s team. It’s sad that Erika had to lose her Victribell, but I see you were trying to keep the numbers the same. I like Muk being on the team as the minimize setup with toxic can be so detrimental to the player. Definitely agree that Golbat should be on the team. Venomoth would be good for Koga’s team to counter Psychics. I also would like to present Tentacruel as an option since it is a poison, but also water which could be a counter for those trying to sweep with ground types. I understand what was trying to be done for Sabrina. I would definitely take out Venomoth and replace with Hypno. If wanting Kadabra switched out, maybe Slowbro or Jynx though I could see why you wouldn’t want to make it too repetitive of Lorelei’s team. For Blaine I completely agree that Magmar is essential and I like the addition of Flareon as you don’t really see it on the team of any trainers from what I recall. Then again I haven’t played since 1999 when I was 6 years old.
You could change the order around. Make Morty and Clair earlier Gym leaders. Morty is the 1st Gym leader with Gastly and Misdreavus. Clair is the 3rd or 4th Gym Leader with Dragonair, Dunsparce, & Kingdra. Rebalance the game around the new levels.
What do you think about falkner having a Farfetch as the ace, with a side hoothoot. Farfetch is a rare pokemon from kanto and this is the only part of the game where it is considered good
This is absolutely brilliant. Not only is every choice well thought out but they’re all super easy connections to make. It’s mind boggling how GameFreak didn’t come to any of these conclusions.
Personally i think a lapras and a magmar would have worked better for Claire than arcanine and aeordactyl. Gotta distinguish her from Lance as much as possible. As for morty i would have kept him "ghost" but more so made him Halloween themed if that makes any sense. Mismagius is his new ace and he can keep a haunter. But id add gligar as its a sorta scary bat guy, noctowl because owl, and a parasect because of the vibes. Also id let chuck keep a poliwrath because he trains in a waterfall.
I don't agree with changing Morty's type specialty from Ghost to Dark because as the Gym Leader of Ecruteak City, Ghost makes far more sense than Dark. Ecruteak City is home to the Burned Tower, where 3 Pokémon died and were resurrected by Ho-Oh into the Legendary Beasts, so they're basically specters roaming the land. No only that, Ecruteak City represents traditional Japanese culture, so Morty's Pokémon should adhere closer to that theme, so Houndoom is rather out of place in that theme. Misdreavus is based on the nukekubi, which is a yokai whose head detaches from it's body and roams around freely, and yokai are supernatural apparitions in Japanese folklore, so it makes perfect sense for Morty. The only other Ghost types to choose from are from the Gastly line, so to keep the team mostly Ghost, he would need both Haunter and Gengar, but Misdreavus should stay the ace despite having a lower base stat total than Gengar due to being a Gen 2 Pokémon. His last Pokémon should be Ninetales because despite not being a Ghost type, Ninetales is mystical in nature and nine tailed foxes (kitsune) are significant in Japanese folklore, so it's perfect for his team. This way, Morty can stay a Ghost type while also not altering Karen's type specialty as Dark type is perfect for her. Also, I see no good reason for Falkner to not have a Noctowl. You say Noctowl would be too strong for a first gym, but wouldn't Heracross be too strong for a second gym? You proposed Murkrow be Falkner's ace with a base stat total of 405, but then you proposed the very next gym should have a Heracross with a BST of 500. That's quite a leap, don't you think? Not to mention, Bugsy does actually have a Scyther, who also has a BST of 500, so what's so bad about the first gym having a Noctowl, who's BST is 442? That's nothing. Falkner should absolutely have a Noctowl as his ace as well as a Mukrow on his team. Hell, put Pidgeotto on his team too. 3 Pokémon are better than 2 for a Gym Leader. There's nothing wrong with having some Gen 1 Pokémon on the Johto Gym Leader's teams, but the Gen 2 Pokémon should definitely be the stars of their teams. As for Claire, replace the Aerodactyl with a Rhydon. I don't think Aerodactyl, or any fossil Pokémon for that matter, should be shared among trainers in game, and Lance should definitely keep his. Rhydon fits her team as Blackthorn City is carved into a rocky mountain. As for Arcanine, it can stay. It's based on komainu, which are lion-dogs that guard the entrances of gates and shrines, so it could be a guardian for the Dragon's Den.
I feel that for Chuck Poliwrath is a much better choice since in Heargold & Soulsilver he's meditating under a waterfall and his gym puzzle needs you to stop said waterfall to be able to challenge him. And since Poliwrath is a Water / Fighting type it's pretty much suited for his gym because of the whole waterfall theme. But on regular Gold / Silver / Cristal Primeape is more suited.
With Morty you don't necessarily need to make his type dark... Just give him sinister pokemon all with ghost type moves that play havoc with your team... This makes him diverse in typing (a nice curve ball as the halfway point) while maintaining a ghostly aura for his gym type... His ace should be a strong Misdreveus flanked by a mixture of dark, poison and just intimidating pokemon... Houndoom, Marowak, Umbreon, Crobat and Murkrow could pull this off (similar to Karen but you could write that off as they are somewhat related to each other in some way and he takes inspiration from her) Jasmine I feel should have a Scizor as it's a badass steel type (obviously steelix remains her ace) but Scizor would be a good difficulty spike to throw in first at the start of the battle. Clair is regarded as a dragon specialist second only behind Lance and there's a relationship there between the 2 of them so you could look at Clair as an understudy to Lance (albeit a powerful one) where Lance has a Dragonite Clair has a Dragonair... She could also have an Aerodactyl and Gyarados inspired by Lance... Her own spin could involve a strong Tyranitar with an even stronger Kingdra (her ace) and why not have a Feraligater... If you don't want to use starters then how about a dragonfly in Yanma (give it a unique move pool if possible and could be a weird spanner in the works to throw off the opponent)
