Economist?Well.....in Realistically speaking... If Covid and the eventual breakdown of global supply chains was "Ground Zero" from a market and employment prosective where would global markets possably be headed afterwards?🤔 🫡
Thank you for sharing this significant work. Having evidence of the fundamental importance of wellbeing on this scale is fantastic, congratulations and thank you again.
Anything more bizarre than economists lecturing people about the environment…? … maybe celibate priests on raising children, an addict on abstinence or most politicians on corruption. Talk about the blind and deaf leading the world into the abyss
Insightful, thanks for posting. I had just finished Moretti's _The New Geography of Jobs_ and was expressly reading it to figure out where real estate might be a good investment (and why) and then how trends might shift because of Covid. There's certainly a way to use the trends and principles in that book to make an educated guess, but is also great to get a direct response on the Covid question.
This is an example of academics trying to come to grips with the harsh reality of being a small business owner having to deal with the new barriers to trade. There should be absolutely no question that the small business sector of the economy would be terribly hard hit almost immediately.
The UK voted to leave the. EU . When the vote for the Welsh Assembly vote was 50 -49 which is closer than 52-48 nobody called for a Second referendum they just said Good morning and it is a very Good morning indeed and therefore why can people not just except that Britain voted to leave and that is the end of it you lost get over it
wow! that is what I have searched for so long on the RU-vid. those typical narrow videos explaining what the labour market is with the millions of views disquise a much more professional scientific discussion. thank you!
The desire to leave the EU was fuelled by a nostalgic view of the past, when GB was still a world empire and a world power. It was thought that everything was better then. The free movement of goods and people was progress and a milestone in European development, Brexit was a huge step backwards. Nostalgia is the memory of times gone by that never existed.
This. The Brits just can’t get over the fact that they are no major powerhouse anymore. They lost their empire and named it the commonwealth after the fall of the empire. They thought that would keep them some power over their colonies but no. They are a big joke now
Anand Menon s optimism is recommendable, but he should may be do his job. Why does the British elite continue to enable its ruling class? It s time to hold the ruling class to account.
Curious if anyone could link a good resource that follows up how did it go as things have only globally gotten kind of worse. Edit googled Cer Brexit trade effect and Cer release a monthly update for the trailing months so last released in July 21 for may 21
Would be great to see what the same people say now with the current state in UK. But suspect that aint going to happen as i think most things these guys chatted about have not happened and UK trade/work situation is far worse then what they predicted.
Why should customers and traders in the EU do business with the UK if they can get the same products cheaper, faster and without any hassle from other EU-countries? This is going to kill business with the UK.
The saddest part of Brexit is the English Brexiters who think that the British Establishment knows how to govern them properly or gives a damn about them. A lot of the Establishment are self-serving, tax-dodging leeches who manufacture English opinion thru their allies in the media. Then there is the phantom of self-determination in a massively interconnected world. The EU was investing in British regions because Westminster had, and has, no intention of doing so, and it gave us the 48 hour week against the wishes of our current givernment.
As I can't use links Google using phrase and go direct to MHRA for their explanations: MHRA Chief Executive Dr June Raine explains the process behind the Agency's approval of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine The regulatory aspect in detail for the specific can be found in part 174 of the 2012 Human Medicines Regulations
Daddy what is Brexit meaning, That means the food shells in shops got more and more empty, Expats become illegal immigrants, it will be dead cheap for mainland Europeans to go weekend shopping in England and daddy got his first UB40, son. Now help me to dig up some left over potatoes before the sun comes up and they catch us.
Copied summary: Oven ready, Canada style, world trade rules, Australia type, Norway Plus, Sweden style, Have our Cake and Eat it. We got Brexit Done. Our friends and our partners in the E.U. 350 Million per week for our NHs. Take back control. No border in the Irish sea. Rip up your customs forms! No M20 delays! The easiest deal in History. Our own laws. Starting to get the feeling its not what its cracked up to be yet?
I used to buy items from the UK, the last time I bought a donut from gamestop they charged me twice the price for being from Mars , I’m not buying nothing in the UK AGAIN! From now on I’ll probably buy donuts from Neptune
There is a Veterinarian defficency in UK. High university costs. Pre brexit it was cheaper and easier to take in Veterinarians from EU since non EU citizens were expensive with visa costs. Now a Veterinary practice or a chain has to pay above 2000pounds for a one Vet. And the vets them selves has to pay a fee. Most of the good vets in EU doesn't want to pay that and there is no need to because they are financially stabilized. They'll just miss a learning opportunity or work and travel fun. Now many practices are suffering under this less work force problem. It is same for the human medicine sector and I think to some other sectors. And for students it's now hard getting to countries like Germany with free education to study for less money and come back and work for UK. UK has to fastly think of a solution and reduce their university fees. Maybe cut the costs on the royal family? I don't know, why it is too expensive in England. High debts? Karma of colonization?
Hey I know this story! Little Tommy felt compelled to run away from his Catholic boarding school and is being disciplined and made an example of to dissuade the other kids from running away too.
When you think about the impact the EU has had on the UK since its inception has been devastating, the tenticles of control have been worst for UK, we were told our fruit trees had to be grubbed up, our fishing rights reduces to next to zero, what manufacturing we had ripped apart, drugs industries gone, trade organised one way " Their Way" from day one it was going to be a one way street, it has got worse not better over the years
Well, if Europe wants to hammer the UK in trade, we're always open to talk here in the US... assuming our current government can even function these days. 🙄
Counterpoint to the idea that inequality of opportunity is rising. In the 1940's the class system was still quite entrenched and it was unwound in the 50s and 60s quite a bit, so you had a lot of good families and good people rise up. Once those people left the general quality of people in the bottom 10-20% of earners is lower so they are less likely to rise out of poverty. The reduction of social mobility over time could be a much more fundamental and difficult problem than rich people hogging the good jobs for themselves and their mates, the social stratification might actually represent talent concentration at the top and failure concentration at the bottom.
@@Nepetita69696 Not at all, I'm just pointing out that back in the 20's, there were a lot of highly educated and acomplished families unable to leave the working class because the class system was genuinely believed in by a lot of people. These families generally left the working class in the 50's 60's and 70's, and once they were gone, they left the working class culturally worse off. I'm not trying to blame anyone, and I don't think this is all of the explanation, I'm just considering that there is probably more than 1 reason for a fall in social mobility. People are in control of their own destiny to a large degree, if you've been raised right, educate yourself and keep your head up for opportunities, you will make progress. There is no use pretending that there are no poor communities with real morale and cultural rot that is holding them back. Obviously there are also some communities so completely beaten down by poverty that physically finding the time to look for better opportunities or educate yourself is impossible, but this is certaintly not even remotely common in the west, most people can make progress if they try.
A drop in 40 percent very likely means that a large part of those importers have covered their markets looking for other providers. This must be quite a corcerning aspect because they are not likely to return.
LoL, your comment is so ignorant. Its like you think the EU put up import fees because the UK left or something or that they have import fees set pr nation or something.
Not true. EVERY third country is paying these fees. And the rule has existed for 40 years. Don't overestimate your own importance, why should you get special treatment?!? Because you are Brits?!? Why on EARTH should a country with a small population of 68 million be punished by over 400 million EU citizens? EU is taking a economic hit, but we will recover within 2 years. Great Britain will not.
