Vintage Electronic Repair & Restorations feature heavily in Mark's workshop, but Mark will work on whatever comes in! From gramophones to games consoles. Antique radios, classic computers, retro Hi-Fi, jukebox parts, and lots of things he's never seen before!
What an idiotic design. A relay for each dB volume change??? All that effort to smooth the DC and no thought given to relays that will ultimately develop dodgy contacts. After DC has an immeasurable ripple, anything after that is wasted money and faults waiting to happen.
This was so satisfying to watch. I have the VU meter version. The VU meter boards also had dry joints when I got it. These things are built like tanks. I would be very interested to see some content with your opinion of counterfeit parts. They are a plague, not only for restorers but also for manufacturers.
Great work as usual. My only add would be to include some sort of mixer on the stereo output of the Bluetooth module. There might be sounds in the source that are only in one channel that would be missing in the final output if only one channel is routed to the output.
Mark can you help I have a pye cambridge gramaphone and the needle on it is broke. It's a gerrard 2025 model where could I buy a needle for it please 😢🫶🙏
I have a technics su-v500 amp and i think the fan is not working. If i turn it on without any music playing and just turn the volume all the way up, should the fan kick in? also, is this a fire hazard?
pulling the spindle out of the tape deck with the frewheel mech etc, everything falls apart. I would absolutely cack myself yet you remain entirely undaunted and press on with positivity! Bravo!
Hi Mark, I have Quad 33 Pre-Amp and when switching off it crackles, no problems when fully working, any ideas on what it may be. Absolutely love your show and your sensible approach to doing your work. All the best from Sydney Australia.
Excellent, these amps back in the day had such a poor reputation, it's easy to forget how well build they were, it was HH's step up into the pro market, a mate had a very good one, which unlike most of the others I came across worked well, it was the forerunner of their superb V Series, I still own a V800, which is an amazing amplifier, built like a tank and very powerful but at 25kg doesn't get to go and play much these days, thanks Mark.
Excellent fix, as I recall Electro Harmonix made two versions, the Electric Mistress and the deluxe version, I have owned both, way back, trying to simulate a Leslie organ cabinet, I was given one that had been installed in a box, for free standing rather than floor use, I sold it for a considerable amount, maybe somebody was buying it for the components !
ANother great video! But why oh why did you not film the headphone jack clicking back into position (just before and after :( )- my brain cannot cope!!!!
