I paint on canvas - sometimes wood using a wide selection of medium’s with acrylic and oil paint. I try not to get too much on my studio walls & floors, but there’s no sense in “crying over spilled milk”, or more appropriately, spilled or splattered paint. Website coming soon in 2024💕
@tamara9869 I use Mona Lisa by speedball, i also will sometimes use Barnabas Blattgold. These are imitation gold, a combination of a few different metals, but am pretty sure Blattgold makes real gold leaf as well as some of the brands.
Mary here:) please give the adhesive no less than 20 minutes to dry before applying your silver, gold or copper leafing. Longer is better…even over night! You’ve got this!!
I have recently experienced the same issue with my Byzantine icons with the quality of the Monalisa brand adhesive and the Gold leaf. I had to work it twice the amount of time. I wonder if the Monalisa is lessening their quality? Like all corporations are doing lately. I am going to give it another chance and see if buying another batch of Gold leaf, because this was disappointing with the quality I had from earlier years. Thank you for sharing. I wouldn't have known otherwise what everyone else was experiencing.
Hi Mary! Can’t believe I didn’t get this notification, but I’m here now…lol. I’m resetting my notifications!! This is looking amazing! Can’t wait for part 2!
Hi, after trying both I decided to stay with Speedball Mona Lisa adhesive. There are others out there, and I encourage you to try more than one, experimenting on small substrates until you find the one you like. Have fun with it:)
The instructions say at least 20 minutes 30 on some. I leave it on for several hours sometimes overnight it has an open time of about 18 hours. I find that the longer I leave it on the better it sticks:) some adhesive you can leave on for 24 to 30 hours. It depends on the brand, but if you go longer then it loses the adhesive quality.
Most useful tips to recover a frame. I’ve just started following you and look forward to learning more. You cover thoroughly important aspects that are very instructive and helpful. Thank you!
The wings are absolutely stunning! I love them 😍 I’ve watched all the videos in the angel wings series but am having trouble finding the answer as to what went wrong. I think I remember you stating you sealed the silver leaf with varnish? A couple coats maybe? Was the issue because the varnish was oil based and the paste used was water based? I’ve heard you can use oil based over water based but not the other way around. I’m just curious.
Hi, and thank you! I used water based sealer - for the silver leaf. It’s a lot like water based varnish - it sealed the surface so that the paste would not stick to it. So after figuring that out, i took some sandpaper and went over the surface to give it back some “tooth” so the paste would stick. Does that help? Best, Mary
This is absolutely gorgeous! I love the surprising colors … and the tree trunk is so intricate! Your resin cited beautifully … and I love the tip about laying a poster board over the art piece. Resin scares me but I do it once in a while. Your art is stunning.
Thank you Mina! I’m appreciative of your kind words! I’m so happy to be able to offer what I’ve learned including those made by my mistakes so others can hopefully avoid the same👍
You are so much fun! Your videos are really informative. What did you do with the canvas that you painted silver (by mixing those 3 silver colors?) Did the smell lead go on that? Anyway, I am looking forward to following you. Also, I am so glad you recovered from COVID. That is rough stuff.
The odor of the sealant went away as soon as it dried. I painted the blue heron on this piece. That too is in one of my videos. Thanks so much again for your questions! I love the feedback💕😀
Hi 👋and thank you for you kind words!💕 I used wax paper. It really works well. When a piece gets a bit worn or done silver leaf happens to stick to it, I just cut off and use a new piece. 👍
#1st I have the perfect tile background for the wings, it was a swipe gone wrong, that I fixed with Ballon kisses ,it's quite beautiful and delicate, a year later I found its purpose ♥ its happens to be an 8x10 tile
Hi Roberta! I bet it’s beautiful - do you have a channel I can see your artwork on? I love to see other artists and just get to know different ways of doing things. Thank you for your comment.❤️
Hi Denise! I’m so glad you love it💕 thank you! I also am enamored of this combination of colors , they are my favorites. I’ll keep sharing what I learn, Art is a happy place.🌞
