🤔What happened? Fixing Gold leaf,(Mona Lisa, imit.) & comparing to Barnabas Blattgold

Something went terribly wrong after i sealed my gold leaf (imitation) on canvas. Here is what happened. I ended up applying new gold leaf with grest results.
Let me know your thoughts💕
Materials:
Mona Lisa adhesive, imitation gold leaf & sealer, (by Speedball).
Barnabas Blattgold adhesive, imitation gold leaf & sealer.
36”x36” wrapped canvas, 1.5” deep
Luquitex red ochre acrylic paint for underpainting
Sandpaper: 2000 grit

I had this same issue with Barnabas adhesive, changed the color of the gold leaf and had black streaks

I have recently experienced the same issue with my Byzantine icons with the quality of the Monalisa brand adhesive and the Gold leaf. I had to work it twice the amount of time. I wonder if the Monalisa is lessening their quality? Like all corporations are doing lately. I am going to give it another chance and see if buying another batch of Gold leaf, because this was disappointing with the quality I had from earlier years. Thank you for sharing. I wouldn't have known otherwise what everyone else was experiencing.

Hi, after trying both I decided to stay with Speedball Mona Lisa adhesive. There are others out there, and I encourage you to try more than one, experimenting on small substrates until you find the one you like. Have fun with it:)

The instructions say at least 20 minutes 30 on some. I leave it on for several hours sometimes overnight it has an open time of about 18 hours. I find that the longer I leave it on the better it sticks:) some adhesive you can leave on for 24 to 30 hours. It depends on the brand, but if you go longer then it loses the adhesive quality.
