The Mikasa is quite famous for a few things. One, engaging the Russian fleet at such long ranges, and hitting so hard that it showed the world what big guns would be capable of(allegedly). Two, being the last Japanese Battleship. Three, being included in War Thunder, as to show us modern folks what Pre-Dreadnought combat is like.
You have same penetration as Alaska, why is that a problem in tier 7, with 15 guns? Learn to aim those ap and it totally WRECKS. You can’t aim like you are sitting in a Iowa ffs
Alaska and Anhalt both have similar overmatch potential, with overmatch being the value of armor that the ship can simply ignore because it is too thin, there are a lot of hidden stats that change what you would expect the shell to penetrate against any armor that isn't thicker than that. You might say it's a bit "unhelpful" that the game doesn't tell you anything about this, but two of the hidden stats that determine how a shell interacts with a target are demonstrated in this video through the shell flight time table I included. What's baked into that table is that each shell has a (hidden) initial velocity as well as a(n also hidden) shell drag value. Those don't totally correlate to "penetration," though if your shell is going fast enough it might go straight through (overpen) your target or if it's going too slow it might detonate within a void (like a torpedo belt). Each ship that has AP does have an armor penetration value that decreases by range. WG says it is very complicated. I'm not sure how true that is, but if you go into a training room you can test how well an Alaska can punch the side of the Vladivostok versus how easily another 12 inch battleship can. You might have to go down to tier III to find one though, and that's the kind of pen that Anhalt enjoys... or doesn't... depending on the target.
There are ways for CCs to provide feedback to WG. By in large, putting complaints in a video and trusting that WG is going to see it makes good theater, but the CCs collectively create far more than 8 hours of content per day. Even if WG did employ a person whose sole responsibility was to scour videos in search of CCs' opinions, there's still a very good chance it would never be seen. It would be better to just tell WG your thoughts directly if you really wanted someone to hear them, which is what I do.
@@tacticangel what’s the point of having a cc program if their only purpose is to up sell content in the game? I think cc should raise the issues in the game while also helping new players learn the game. I think they should get rid of the cc program because they all puppets only can say what wargaming wants them to say even if the ship is trash you will have to say it’s great. You guys never raise issues in the game the issues that matter. This game has a myriad of issues I never hear the cc talk about. Also they give cc ships and goods for free while the players who pay money in the game to keep the lights on get no rewards in the game.
I'm here for all of it. First and foremost, the almost accidental ship history thrown into a gameplay review; second, carrier gameplay (which is a nice change-of-pace sometimes); and third, taking a fresh look at an "older" ship just because something relatively small -- although not small at all to us historical accuracy nerds out here -- changed. Fantastic video, as always.
I think this ship is really hindered by the fact that there is, as you showed, another Tier VIII foreign Fletcher to play, and that one just does what the Velos does but better. The Chung Mu may not be able to go up against other destroyers, but I'll have another gun to help. Just give me the Chung Mu.
@@aidanshay5846 Yeah, either that or this one will be a bit more HP and maybe even better gun performance, but we will see. I'm sure there will be more Fletchers.
The doubloon value or using your drachma on this ship is admittedly lowest, but I do think it is still about which you think you'll enjoy and play most. Glad you liked the video!
I really wish this ship was just avaliable in the shop! She's a perfect opponent to Zuiho but given her rarity, you never see her. Of course, now that they brought her back for special currency, she'll probably never be put in the regular shop since most people would be pissed at effectivley wasting the currency. But what also sucks is that she has so much competition for this event! The Borodino, Georgia, Seigfried, and Belfast all have an appeal that could make people use their drachmas on one of them instead; and the event really only gives you enough to purchase one of them. Poor Independence deserves better than this!
Got to say, as much as I don’t like CV’s in the game you have a way of capturing my attention. Definitely like your content even though it goes against my principles lol. Keep up the good work. Cmu33111
Don't like what you're doing but like to watch it sounds like a great endorsement to me. Glad you liked the video. Well be back to surface ships next time. Thanks! 👍
Thanks for the history and review. I'm not a fan of Carrier play so rarely roll one out but next time I do I'll give the ol' Indy another try. Enjoyed watching👍
Unless I'm mistaken, there's no way to buy or earn Musashi currently and Musashi hasn't returned since the Bushido campaign.other than pulling it out of a hat.
I'd say she's more competitive now than ever... and, I can't help but say it again, also doesn't look like a mid-centuryused car lot, but to each his own.
I play carriers don’t hate me lol. I’m one of the five trying to pick this one up. Trying to collect all of the carriers. Waiting for Ark Royal to come back too. Lexington is currently my favorite cv next to Saipan and Kaga.
Im also a carrier main and am also planning on getting Independence but i decided against it and i think im going for Georgia just because i think ranger is way better and Georgia with the commander seems OP to me. What do you think but like i see it like Independence just sucks pls give me advice.
It's ok, Ace. I only dislike carrier players on a 15-minute-by-15-minute basis, and I made the video so people would watch it. I've obviously been "part of the problem" sometimes, too.😄
@@Potatoairlines I don’t think Independence sucks, I think she’s actually pretty good, especially because of the fact that she had helldivers and they’re like mini Lexington planes. I love Ranger too, but I’m a collector so my opinion is kinda biased because I just like ‘Merica. But if you’re looking for a Tier V carrier that makes more money than a tech tree, than I think Independence is good and probably better than Zuiho because Independence has both good bombs and torps while Zuiho only has torps.
@@AcePilotX2 im litterally same like i have the same idea i also collect and i am also an " Merica " player but im not from there i also tried getting Ark Royal in the giveaway stream so i think i am going to get Independence now thx but do you think the hoshino commander is worth it??
@Potatoairlines - great name by the way, I tend to shy away from telling people what to do, because we have different situations and we probably have different priorities in the game... ...but if I were trying to decide between Georgia and Independence, the first thing that jumps out to me is that Georgia is a tier VII battleship which can be used in Standard, Ranked, Brawl, Arena, etc. and Independence is a Tier V carrier that can be used pretty much in Standard battles only. Presumably, that means that I'm not only getting a better value for my dracmas since tier VII tend to be more expensive but I would also have more opportunities to use Georgia. The thing is I also know that I don't play Georgia more than Independence because there are 8-10 US Navy "battleships" at Tier VII, depending on how you want to count them, so when I jump into a USN BB at tier VII, I don't often pick Georgia. Some of that is down to me as a player preferring the volume of fire or particular consumables rather than what Georgia offers. I'm also not that good of a shot at the longer ranges where I don't particularly want to be in the first place. I'm not sure which is the chicken or the egg between my inability to hit things over 15km away versus my own disinterest in being there, but it does really hurts the "Gneisenau-effect" you can get on Georgia already, so as a result I know I don't play the ship that much. Independence, though certainly a lesser value proposition, may get played more because there are less total carriers at the tier than there are American battleships at tier VII. I also prefer Independence to Ranger, in part because I know exactly what I would like to do (though I don't always do it) if I am ever in a Serov and I see a Ranger. I also prefer the Independence's flight groups (both of them) to Ranger's and the speed. Ranger does have a nearly 6000hp advantage, almost double the AA, and secondaries, and (as they say) "that's not nothin", but I'd prefer the better stealth (-500m), speed (+2kts), and citadel on Independence even if the airgroups were the same. So... food for thought.
2:44 ramble harder radio voice, it matters not. your reviews are almost L.W.M, but with better presentation that's more digestible, yet accurate and well edited.
It surely was. I made sure to leave you another reply because I was going to feel a bit silly if I made it and you didn't comment on this video. Hope you enjoyed it! 🙂 I really wasn't planning on it, but the stars really aligned with the lack of a balance change with the patch, my very limited time, and this showing back up in the shop.
Well, I have got at least 40% of the 5 as far as I can tell. Glad you caught the video. 👍 And yeah, it's nice to get to talk about real ships from time to time.
@@tacticangelof course, we SHOULD mention that the real ship was designed to only operate aircraft, not be a solo warrior. I really wish WG would just develop a true carrier game where these notable ships could get a proper treatment! Anywho, thanks for keeping the content rolling, sir.
As someone who doesn't really play CV's all that much (less than 400 games out of over 16k total) this one is weirdly my favorite. Sits in that sweet spot at T5 where you're not running into a literal firestorm of flak on every sortie and you feel like you can actually contribute to the game. Always did bug me that they had Devastators and Helldivers together on this thing, so the switch to Avengers certainly scratches that historians itch (though what WG has against SBD's, I'll never know...)
Yeah, I want my Dauntless divebombers back on something. The only way to see them right now is to use the un-upgraded divebombers on Lexington, I think, which is a crying shame. Glad you like the Independence and thanks, as always, for your support!
Dude, I was super pleasantly surprised to hear the bit of aviation history! I have zero interest in owning the ship, but I have no regrets listening through the video. Funny stuff, man. Good work.
Sometimes I can't help it. I'm like a parent trying to get people to eat their vegetables even if they don't want to watch the history sections... if that makes any sense. 😄
Hate to be a grammar nazi but “ye olde” is pronounced “the old”. The “þ” was an old English letter which made the sound “th” before it was replaced by the Latin diphthong “th”. Because it looked like a “y”, some people mistakenly thought it made a “ye” sound, but no, it’s just the good old “the” written in an old fashion. Anyways, great video as always!
I mean, you would have to get more than 22 minutes into a 22 minute 47 second video to hear that, so the way I look at it is that it was almost a flawless video, in spite of running into an island. 😄 I had to go back to make sure if I did (or didn't, as the case may be) pronounce the -e at the end as we folksy Americans are known to do from time to time. It's all in good fun, of course, and glad you enjoyed the video.
What an interesting comment. It’s too well typed out to be trying to be mean, so I’ll take it as a truth that you’re trying to help. So please hear my text as trying to help you, I’m being sincere; comments like that can come off as pedantic. If things like that really do bother you, think of them more like colloquialisms than actual attempts to speak properly. Regional dialect and personal preference adds flavor and poetry to speaking, try to see those elements as interesting instead of annoying. I hope this helps, you sound like a knowledgeable dude.
More than happy to see a re-visit, particularly when the aircraft load out was changed to something more historically accurate 😅. Cheers, great review as always! And safe travels.
Thanks, Bronner! For better or worse, I don't fly the plane. I may visit some uboats and maybe a certain destroyer... maybe get some off-topic videos out of it. 😄 But yeah, hopefully just get there and back ok too.
Was just wondering when you’d post again and blammo, a post. I’m picking her up because I play to ruin people’s days. Also I picked the Black and have been waiting forever and a day until I could pick her up again. Now if Ark Royal would rerun…
I do not like to play carriers in this game but still find your video very interesting and entertaining. Very good video as always and I look forward to a video about Borodino!
Well... if there's a Borodino video in my future, that will mean that I learn only too late that I have been placed on a no-fly list or something. 😅 I'm going to try to at least get Velos done though. For what it's worth, it seems like a very strong ship with crazy guns. It doesn't particularly like CVs, and it's free XP for AP dive-bombers, but otherwise it doesn't seem to have a lot of natural predators. I only played three games in it which is too few to have a really credible opinion, but I was enjoying myself... in a Russian ship... that doesn't happen all that often.
@@jimmyellner4763 I'm just going to Germany, Poland, and elsewhere for a few weeks. Barring something awful, I should be back just before the next update.
Hey i know you are not a native english speaker i also am not a native english speaker but its thanks not thank's or just say THX I am saying this so you dont get attacked by the spelling police on the internet✌️😁
I'll be picking Independence up. Not because I want to play it or have any interest in it whatsoever. But because it's one of two campaign ships I don't have, the original Oleg being the other.
I guess I didn't mention the completionist, but the completionist pretty much always applies. In any case, if it were anything other than a carrier, I'd suggest giving her a whirl, but hope you enjoy her in port all the same. 👍
@@tacticangel It's just a matter of nothing else to really spend the drachmas on, and coupled with the fact I mentioned above makes it an alright decision for me. I have no interest in actually playing carriers, I find them incredibly boring and I certainly don't want to add to the cancer 🙃
