Bro, I'm living in Northern Virginia now, but I'm natively from Oahu and left the island right before Covid hit the public! I haven't been back since...lol....But, yeah, I grew up there, went to Punahou school, worked at places like Louis Vuitton and Gucci at both Ala Moana Shopping Center and Waikiki, etc..etc...But, ever since moving here to Virginia I have been loving it to death. Matter of fact, me and my wife went to Tyson's Corner 2(to the mall) and did some shopping there just yesterday...Virginia is even more diverse, in everything, than hawaii. Matter of fact, I've met so many hawaiian people, some polynesians, micronesians, Tungans, Somoans and Filippino's and everything in between, that this is basically a "monster sized" hawaii. I love it here in Virginia man and will probably never go back to hawaii to live. Put in the fact that everything is getting much more costlier, especially now that there's an elevated rail going from Ewa Beach towards Ala Moana Shopping Center, and the taxes are getting even higher, as a result because let's face it, somebody has to pay for that elevated rail; not to mention all the rampant homelessness and petty crime. Virginia was ranked as one of the safest states to live in the United States and is indeed ranked, for a very good reason, the 2nd best state, to retire in(Florida ranked #1).

Haoli is white person in Hawaiian??? Well, in Tongan its sounds like their saying hā’uli, and our words are “siblings” with theirs, which means to show dirtyness, behold disgustingness, revealing uglyness within!😂Omgoodness, (wow, good one Hawaiians good one👍🏼) while white person in Tongan is pālangi, which means burst from the heavens, sky blooming, out from up above the world so high!😂wow, big difference...we might as well be called the aloha state or island😂

I was in a group on Facebook and i came across a few angry hatefull people. Mostly Hawaiians and Portagees. They hate white people and tourists. They prefer all white skinned people go back to the mainland. Im local born and raised and the group admin Sunny Onikiniki asked me to prove to her im local. How stupid is that. She's just another hateful Hawaiian. Also a few others, nasty one also is Yvette Brock-Nakaahiki. Angry psychopath. Even a few Filipino too. Truth. Definitely no Aloha whatsoever.

Often people forget that in Hawai’i we had our own language so the term “haole” really isn’t derogatory in itself, used with other descriptive words it can be as with other words in English that is used for other ethnicities. To look at it as derogatory really does diminish the Hawaiian language and shows English language bias. The Hawaiian language is still being spoken so the use of Hawaiian words by Hawaiian speakers should not misinterpreted in English usage context. Good informative video.

Definition of Haole is: Ha- Breath of Life Ole- No or Without Haole- Without Life. It's because the White man is pale or looked dead to the early Hawaiians. Now the Hawaiian word for Black people is Popolo. Popolo- Refers to the Popolo berry plant. These little berries are Black in color & have Medicinal properties King Kamehameha the Great was nicknamed "The Royal Hawaiian" & was also known as "The Black Hawaiian", he was 6' 7" and Black in color. When Hawaiians see Black people they'll call you a "Royal Hawaiian" or "Black Hawaiian". When they do that what they're saying is "You remind me of my King". It's is a Great honor to be considered a "Black Hawaiian" so if you visit please respect our Home & we will Respect you. I’m a Black American and I recently watched a video by a Hawaiian woman named Haunani-Kay. I never knew in 42 years of life she what white people have done to Hawaii and it’s people. I see we have had a life long common enemy. They did the same to the mainland natives. If GOD is real then divine justice has to come. We don’t know each other but I feel your pain and sympathize. The beast we struggle against is strong but the war we fight is spiritual and against principalities.

When the white man first arrived, they went to greet him in this way, but he instead stuck out his hand (to shake) So, it literally has nothing to do with color in reality but has the connotation of "outsider" now. I have heard black people referred to as "popollo" or whatever the little black berries are called. But whites and Micronesians are the most hated on in Hawaii. Never seen anything like it.

@@dustinmiller2775 That's like saying everyone is "black". Technically according to gnome studies we all come from the landmass that is called "Africa". So technically we are all "black". The reason "we" (hawaii non-white locals and hawaiians) don't like haoles much is their attitudes and how hawaii became a state. Popolos with the same attitudes have the same problems with "locals". We are used to having issues with haoles so we are automatically wary of them. Popolos obviously don't look like haoles and share similarities with many non-white locals so we are less wary of them right off the bat.

The one that majority of locals Cannot Stand is the "holier-than-thou" assitude! Don't come here w/Superior chip on your shoulder, expecting to be treated accordingly, because that will get you into Deep, Hot water! Aye don't keep track of racially diverse friends I have... They're Just Friends! And I don't keep track of how many black people I have met but some black people I have met, I can count them as friends! Off the top of my head, there's 2 families, one who immigrated from Kenya, that raised families here & are living comfortable, successful lives. IMO...Racism/prejudice is Everywhere, all around. If you keep focusing on people's skin color, instead of Who they are, you're living a Sad, Pathetic life & will never peace & equality. You want to effect change?!...Start by changing the person within!

As a native Hawaiian it is important for people that come to Hawaii to be respectful of the land and culture. As long as you do this you should be fine but if you don’t it’s 50/50. Ultimately you shouldn’t travel if you don’t learn a little about the place your going the history and culture. If you can’t do this then you should stay home and don’t go outside of your local area. There is a dark history like many other cultures have experienced where you lose your rights or lands like the native Hawaiians are experiencing. Taking over a place imprisoning the queen then stealing the land from the natives to sell off for money will create hard feelings in any culture or place.
