people need to understand that when something "generic" is done well. it is far better than those special and different things that are only watchable/playable because they're different and have nothing else.
Oh so how it hurts to see this video age so well. We get AC in Japan, with focus on ideology instead of a good story. They had that one chance to prove that they too can create a beautiful Japan setting with a good story and gameplay, and they failed.
To be perfectly honest, the combat needed some more flying limbs to really nail it. The Witcher 3's combat was simplistic at best and below average at worst... but it did nail a visceral feeling when fighting humans and humanoid monsters, slicing them in two or lopping off heads, arms and legs. It's obviously unrealistic, but the game is a power fantasy, isn't it? The occasional missing right arm from a "heavenly strike", "dance of wrath" or ghost stance really don't hit the right notes. Also, from a realism point of view, the combat is pretty shit... the mongols are wearing metal armor and you're killing them by *slashing* at the armor? Yeah, no, that's not gonna fly.
I loved AC Odyssey. But Ubisoft really messed up AC series with new games. They could have just made these as non-assassin game as a separate series - but they really wanted to milk that AC brand.
I feel like AC should just stop trying to interconnect the overall story of Assassin's, Templars, and Hidden Order across multiple continents and millenia. If they just use the Animus as the briefest of framing devices to open a game and jump right into individual stories one historical place at a time, i think it'd go a long way. The ancient alien stuff is so absurd that it is kind of fun though. Maybe they could also just double down on that and make a futuristic alien AC game: Assassin's Creed: Nebulas!
I agree with the environmental waypoints discussion. The wind and birds were cool and all initially. But eventually i noticed i was running in a straight line with no deviation from location to location just to clear the map. To me that's not the most alive feeling open world if my playthrough starts to feel that routine. Still a very solid 7.5 type of game for me, glad i gave it a playthrough.
Umm, it has gotten GOOD since Unity. The older games that “purists” like I can’t even get through. Granted, I can’t get through Mirage either, but Odyssey, Valhalla, Origins are among the best games I’ve ever played. I play to experience the history being a history buff myself, and for the characters and story. The lore is somewhat ridiculous and only mildly interesting. I imagine the reason the games have gotten bigger and more successful is because most ppl are Iike me on this.
Story was always bad because they had no idea where they wanted to go. But damn it when I first played origin and saw the flashy numbers and levels I knew it's went down the toilet. The combat looks so damn bad, just like most souls like games.
I hate that all the games have crazy difficult plots. Still don't understand the plots of any Halo or Assassins Creed games. And they killed off Desmond Miles. Stupid decision.
Yes it’s so much fun hitting 1 button and making parkour and free running obsolete. That’s it’s biggest issue but add the bad character, bad villains, lackluster story and even more. It’s definitely bad only good things were the black box missions but that’s thanks to Unity and the Jack the Ripper dlc. If it was a single protagonist, with victory robes, no grappling hook and was dark and gritty matching the time period it would have been a lot better or even perfect. For the 1-4 things this game dies right it did everything else wrong which is why out of the og formula it’s considered the worst and why we have the even worse rpg formula.
It was never a good game to begin with. It's a large open world with an endless repeat of the same few things to do. you know, Scan the dino, sneak through that crowed, start up that communications town.... UBI soft is notoriously bad for this sort of game design. I have given up on them entirely.
AC started to go down with AC unity but not because of the bugs but because of the Equipment systems they started to implement i still enjoyed unity and syndicate a bit the equipment systemns really left a sour taste in my mouth and with the release of odyssey they just went to far and the gameplay was just tedious nothing more.
My PS4 still overheats, sometimes with a crash when starting up unity. On the title menu!! Yes my PS4 is clean, unity is the only game that causes this. I love unity, and don't understand the hate syndicate got. But unity is so incredibly badly optimised..
keeping it short, post syndicate the series has been horrible in terms of AC games but fun in their own respect. Mirage has been "ok" and is only "Ok" because of how bad the past 3 have been. They need to remaster ACII on unity's engine and thats about it.
Everytime i think about my enjoyment of AC games, black flag which is my favorite was the best pirate game ever made. Do i love AC or some ideas they put in them and the historical themes. The rpg elements i welcomed in Odyssey and made it my second best. I thought hunting down the cult across grece and the mercenary hunting you down anytime anywhere in the game was awesome! Valhalla was a little bit of disappointment because i thought the viking aspects were lacking. In blackflag being a pirate was consequential for the game, being a vicking in Valhalla was not (raiding), in my opinion.
@@sosaysjay Don't get me wrong, you're not missing any aspect, i just feel like you don't understand parkour. I don't know how much time you have played syndicate but if you have played it for a really long time, i don't know how can't you see how boring the rope launcher is, it works but do you enjoy traveling building to building pressing a single button? Also, parkour is all about control and fluidity and syndicate doesn't have that, it is highly automated and you don't understand the dimension of not having a jump button.
For context I’ve played each game to 100% completion, with probably 6-10 full playthroughs of the original PS3 games. Unity, among all the games, was by far the most ambitious, but it didn’t come within throwing distance of being finished. Heavily automation took away player control, as did limited eject options, and the environment was not built around Arno’s animations which led to beautiful animations that were cut up and choppy since they didn’t fit the world. It remains good in concept, but failed in execution. Syndicate was only given a limited time to make the next game, and their options were build a totally new system from scratch, somehow fix the mess Unity made, or essentially paint over it with a mechanic that would negate the problems of its predecessor. I am not saying that we should forgive them, because it’s Ubisoft’s fault for requiring the game to come out only a year later anyways, but the team was given an impossible task and made something that, unlike Unity, is functional. Sometimes people just have different opinions. It doesn’t have to be enough to you. But I have multiple videos analyzing the parkour in these games - there is no need to simply accuse me of not understanding something based only on a couple minutes of one video you dislike. We are free to have differing opinions without needing to shut down those opinions in the first place - that doesn’t lead to great conversation.
@@sosaysjay yeah man sorry if i expressed myself wrong, i didn't mean to accuse you. But what world would fit Arno's animations? That doesn't make sense, what world would? Not to say the animations were good enough to enjoy even though they were choppy. And unity parkour works, i don't understand what y'all mean? The animations not being perfectly executed doesn't mean it doesn't work. And last, syndicate's system is the same, just worse because they don't actually correct anything, and if you can say anything they've corrected please tell me. Just my opinion.
@@hugomartinho1225 It's all good. It may be easier for you to watch the Unity section of my video on that game. It is a long video but the parkour chapter alone is designated. I can give an overview in case you do not want to watch it. When I say the world doesn't fit, I am talking about how the devs designed each individual asset. If you look at AC2, every single thing Ezio can jump to is exactly far enough away for his animation to play perfectly. It is built out so that any parkour chain you start looks smooth. In Unity, objects are not placed based on Arno's animations. That is why sometimes he zips across a rooftop with a sped up animation, or why he seems to hang in the air for too long if the distance is shorter than his animation allows. The world is so complex, but as a result it is also not as perfectly curated. Where once every path was hand made, now there are many sections where handholds and objects are just thrown together. I also talk about the fact that player control was removed in favor of automation. I showcase in my video that you can do the exact same inputs only to have Arno do three completely different things because of how much the game guesses your intentions instead of giving you control. That is why even RU-vidrs who focus on Unity are oftentimes open about the fact that it is the least consistent game in the series parkour-wise. Again, you do not have to agree. It is just the place I have landed after playing these games many times, and I find Syndicate's working but boring system more acceptable than Unity's broken one.
The game is an AC game. Cool looking world, a lot of interesting history you can delve into, carbon copy stealth, fun combat, and some of the most boring and brain dead side quests I’ve played in a game. It even has tailing missions
Ubisoft needs to sit and study how The Witcher 3 was developed by CDPR, the game is an absolute gem. Not a single side quest in TW3 is repetitive, making every mission feel like a new experience. I'd rather see an Assassins Creed title release once in three years with quality content that will run into 200+ hours of gameplay instead of seeing a game release every year that has barely 30-40 hours of gameplay. Quality > Quantity
GOT is the only game i actually 100% and squeeze all of the small stories i can find . the new 3 AC right now except mirrage is tyring after you done the main story (except Odyssey IMO) the story is qurky and some of them are actually funny af . Also GOT stand off , stands, and diffrent game style for diffrent opponents keep me addicted to it
For sure, I hate 100%'ing games but GoT is soooo immersive and so well done that you want to complete all the quests. It's like you are actually worried about these random NPC's struggling to survive in the era of Mongol Invasion
As usual ubisoft does, theres hidden movement the game doesnt tell you about or hint in the slightest. Theres a movement tech for mirage thats completely unique to it that i love. You can do basims slide and slide cancel off of ledges that arent too high. Its insanely simple but unintuitive to figure out. Slide just before the ledge, instantly hold circle before as you hit the ledge and he’ll slide drop straight off
If they want to make a Viking game, then make a Viking game. If they want to make a game based in Rome, then do that. Stop making games that are completely not related to assassin’s creed and slapping the name onto it and adding like 2 characters who wear the outfit and call it assassin’s creed.
Wait, WTF, I did 100% in ac odyssey and I didn't know about teleporting spear…. Also, I am mid-throw Valhalla doing 100% run as I am doing in all ac games and my god I started missing odyssey and origins From perspective, I would give both 10/10 that was fun experience and so far Valhalla is like at most 6,7/10 when i get drunk
