You’ve missed the point. Grey did not play their 1st XV as featured throughout the year. Hamilton had their complete 1st XV with the exception of maybe one player. HBH played a mixture of players who had NEVER played together before. WATCH the video bru.
100% A Joke. I constantly correct Rugby Pass on instagram that this festival does NOT determine the best in the world. EG Jansen during the 2023 SDC Noordvaal Cup only lost to Garsfontein in the log and the Final. They and Garsfontein were by far the two best schools in the Noordvaal region last year. In 2018 and 2019 the festival was hosted by us before August when most of the rugby ends. I garantee you non of those teams will beat a full strength settled South Afican school boy team in the top 30 if they bring it back to SA in-season. Schools will always send a mix of u16 and 2ndXv players to play in this boring festival in Thailand. I feel like they dont want us to host it because they know our schools will dominate and 2018 and 2019 is great example of that. Hartpury played in the Saints Festival this past week and they were crushed by Helpmekaar and struggled against Marais Viljoen who ultimately beat them too.
cant be very good if your success is dependent on hosting the tournament and every factor being in your favour. Christchurch boys and John Mcglashan werent even the bets schools in their islands when they went over but apparently kiwi schools dont get the "2nd XV" excuse south africans peddle.
Please don’t tell me you’re gonna make another video after westlake from nz and st micheal from ireland sent sa schools packing again 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 what’s the excuse this time? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😭
What do you consider U16? if your still 16 by the end of the year 31st Dec your under 16. Ten starting players from greys were 17 year olds at the start of this, u17 players, sure whatever u18 players stayed back for exams is what it is, but stop claiming U16. Hamilton had 8 starters as 16 year olds so they were a younger team than greys, not sure what players from their squad that won the top4 didnt travel, but atleast its better than the sanix one where its held at the start of the rugby season.
I counted plenty of 17 year olds starting for greys in the final, you SA lot like to make up your own facts, the hamilton 1st 15 had 8 16 year olds starting.
There are some salty kiwis in the comments. Just accept you beat under 16’s not the actual first team. If Hamilton beat the proper starting 15 then fair play but they didn’t so…
U16? then why are there 10 17 year olds in the greys starting lineup, sort of how SA fans claim the SA 1st 15 comps are under 18 but theres tons on u19 players in the squads an yes I follow SA school rugby an I know its common plus a sore point between schools.
You’ve made over 25 comments on my channel 😅 what’s up with the obsession? Thanks for the support anyway…tell you what, go and make a video with all your knowledge and maybe you’ll gain a sub, or two 😉 thanks again for all the comments ✊
@@neonrugby This is the only video on your channel they played against other schools as well how come there’s no videos about that only the game they lost? 🤣🤣🤣 tell me you’re salty cry baby without telling me you’re a salty cry baby 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@EatDeze wow another comment 🤟 this channel and its one video must be living rent free in your head daily. Surely you have a life that can occupy your time? Or some friends? If not you can always be friends with your hundreds of laughing emojis 😉 thanks for the support once again.
The SA schools should just not attend if the scheduling means their 1st XV can't attend, see what the organisers will do. If the big names can't make it then surely they'll change the scheduling to accommodate them, not just send an u17 team to accommodate the comp.
@@EatDeze For sure plus they wanna claim u16 lol 10 of their starting players are 17 year olds, how is that u16? probably how their 1st15s are still loaded with 19 year olds, like NZ 1st 15s use to be in the 90s/20s until NZ schools put some laws in place.
Great video. I had so many kiwis telling me im just a sor looser bla bla bla , wish i had this video then.. Good on hamilton , they deserved to win but im exstemely disapointed in Grey for sending a second team combined with u16,, again shows how we discount ourselves and always find ways of sabataging or shooting ourselves in the foot..... typical south african way .... We really need to get some coaches in our provincial setup with the pride and passion of the likes of Rassie, ackerman, mallet, burger, de villers , shimy, beast... to name afew. I am so hapoy that jacques fourie is involved at the lions , watch this space , a real pitty we cant get swys involved somehow , we need that rugby brain in sa rugby ....
I have no association with Grey College, but if you watched the video you’d know why I cared to make it. School rugby is not just ‘school rugby’. A lot of people looked forward to this World Schools Festival, and that Grey mixed team was a genuine disappointment. Thanks for watching though.
@@neonrugby Your making excuses why claim its a u16 team? alot of these starters for grey are closer to 18 than 16, 10 starters with a 2005 birthday mainly Jan to April, u16 lol.
I was super disappointed about the decision not to take the best team to Thailand. It's even more shocking that Grey will do something like that being such a proud Rugby school
I agree with all the comments here, and would like to add one more - whichever teams participate from South Africa, must of course remember that they not only represent their school, but also their country. Sending such an understrength team gives a misleading impression about the strength and depth (or lack thereof) of South African schoolboy rugby.
Stupid reasoning - you are finished with school when you PASS matric. The ONLY reason school players should be disallowed from playing should be age. This is an International competition, with lots of prestige attached to it.Wevshould have sent the best. Imagine what a flop it should be if we send the u20 Baby boks to defend the world cup. Arrangements could have been made for players who wanted to play regarding exams. Most of the players who did not play in the tournament will try their hands in the professional game, with winning this tournament giving them a boost.
Grey college were also a team made up of players born in 2004 this would make them older than all the other teams which went, so they sent the 2005 team which was inline with all the other schools therefore making it fair
Interesting to note that the guys weren't even given the honour of wearing the proper 1st XV jersey. HBHS is excellent, but dare I say in a match at the height of both teams' powers last year, it wouldv been Grey by a canter. The precision in the 1st team is amazing. This was a very rag tag team. I remember in about 2006 watching Glenwood v Grey in Durban. Grey lost they game, however their try where the Sias and Robert E carved the Glenwood team apart. That was an experimental team building for the following year. Needless to say the disjointed performance till that point was a sogn they chucked their u16 players in. The following year Grey blew everyone away, includong giving Glenwood 50 pts. Watch what happens this year.
Great Video Now let me explain from a former Hamilton Boys pupil. 2 things to bring up , 1. Hamilton can only play what’s in front of them. Grey brought a knife to a gun fight and got embarrassed. 2. This was the team that started for Hamilton Boys against Grey College, Raharuhi Palmer** Tom McCarthy* Will Martin Christian MacEwan* Tama Hodgson* Liam Sturm Liam Anderson Oli Mathis* Mac Russ* Wyndham Patuawa Zach Coffey Hiraka Waitai-Haenga** Aki Tuivailala Caelys Putoko* Pavton Spencer Bench Inga Kokohu Breyton Legge Jake Rabarts Josh Syme Jamie Brewer Patty Kailahi** Mitch Swann** Alex Pitts-Brown Dupre Marshall Kurtis Hana* Rangiwai Lunjivich* * returning in 2023 ** returning in 2024 8 of the starters are only 16. 12 out of the 26 are return. Technically Hamilton sent there top side BUT Nearly half were only U16 so really it doesn’t matter about Grey bringing an U16 team. It does mean however Hamilton will be favourites in NZ in 2023. With so many returning. Oh and fun fact, Hamilton announced publicly today that they are going to the Sanix World Rugby Invitational Tournament next month.
Thanks for the message and compliment. You say 12 of the 26 Hamilton players are returning...well 25 of the 25 Grey College players from the World Schools festival are returning and are already playing the 2023 season. Hamilton Boys' are a well balanced team and have a good mixture going, and they could only play what was in front of them, and what was in front of them was a mixed team that had never played together as a team. I wouldn't say Grey got embarrassed...to play a settled 1st XV, the best in NZ, and be all over them in the 1st half and end strong to only lose by less than two converted tries is pretty darn impressive. Hamilton will be strong this year no doubt, but Grey are another level when it comes to rugby culture across the school and community.
@@wezvandez no doubt Grey College is a great rugby school, I don’t think no one doubts that. As a kiwi I follow SA school rugby as well as here in NZ. Right now Hamilton Boys’ have consistently/dominated the scene here in NZ for a while now. But they play a very different style to SA teams. Fit, Fast and Skills. Hence why they have won the last 8 years in national 7s as well.
I'm sure no disrespect was intended. The 2022 grade 12s had already left school. If they had come back to play, there would have been a lot more noise about men playing (and thumping) school boys.
No if you watched the video they didn't have size (mostly U16) and no they don't take steroids. Unlike New Zealand, South Africa is proactive in catching some of the 200 000 players who may be tempted to take enhancements given the pressure to succeed at school level. Make an intellectual comment next time if you are capable.
@@neonrugby They are mostly u17 you mor*n stop claiming u16 majority of the starters are 17 years old, 2005 birthdays mainly jan-april, most are nearly 18. Theres more u16s in the hamilton team lol.
Hahaha…like when Southland Boys lost 54-0 to a full strength Grey side or when Christchurch Boys lost 73-26 to the same side…only way a kiwi side can win is to play a mixed u16 team 😂😂😂
this title is a lie lmao u can even look it up. Greys team was U-17 with a mix of 16, 17 year olds, and Hamiltons team was a a mix of 16, 17 and 2 18 year olds. In SA they finish school later than NZ so these teams are roughly the same age.
The way they select players in these big schools the 3rd team is often as good if not better than the 2nds team. They prioritize young players so much, keeping them close with better coaches and systems. Often you’d feel the tougher game to play in was 3rds as there would often be more 18yo’s. A team with no grade 12’s performing that well is incredible
@@robdasilva140LOL that was against southland boys none of them were against Hamilton hahaha Hamiton have beaten Grey College and Paul Roos no school from sa has beaten Hamilton cause they are the best and they just won the sanix world youth tournament as well 🤣🤣🤣 while grey is sitting there crying with excuses losers 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Unlike New Zealand, South African rugby allow testing throughout the year, so inevitably a few of the 200 000 plus players will test positive with some banned supplement given the massive pressure to perform and compete with the naturally big South African kids. Maybe make a more intellectual comment next time.
Bro did you what the south african schoolboys did in 2019 at the world schools festival at Boys high? That festival wil show you that we’re on another level, that was definitely grey’s U:16 team. But besides my rant, I think the whole festival is great for schoolboy rugby and rugby union. Can’t wait to watch the next world rugby festival!
There is a tradition in Grey that at the end of your grade 12 year you walk underneath the old bell. This means that your time at Grey has come to an end. The players who didn’t attend the world schools festival are the ones who have already walked underneath the bell, thus they couldn’t play because their time at Grey has ended.
This type of comment is typical of trolls and also highlights your lack of intellect. To blanket ALL coaching staff as supportive of enhancements is utterly ridiculous given that South Africa are proactive in testing (and I need to emphasise that South Africa tests its own players) so anyone taking enhancements is taking a massive risk.
So why did they play their first xv every other year except 2023?🤷♂️love the research done just seems like butthurt to go to extreme measures like this..leave it in the past.history has been made❤
Unfortunately for your the facts don’t align with your thinking. NZ schools are fantastic, but there is an edge in South African school professionalism which unfortunately puts undesired pressure on young players to perform and even enhance their performance.
"...best school teams..."? I have only ever seen two NZ school teams beat any SA school team (Christchurch first XV vs Affies first XV in 2019 and Hamiton first XV vs Grey U/16A/combined team last year). The other games over the years (and there have been plenty) have all been pretty miserable for NZ...so that's then 2 wins out of plenty played for NZ vs SA.
@@corneldejongh Ive seen hamilton boys beat paarl, ive seen christchurch boys beat paarl when they toured NZ an ended their 43 match winning streak no1 in SA an chch were like no 15 in NZ at the time lol, Southland boys beat greys in the 90s, hamilton beat some SA school in sanix. What plenty of SA v NZ school games have there been, sanix has only had a few plus this new world schools thing that started in 2018 which are NZ teams at the very start of their pre season going to SA with a complete new squad an you base results on that lol, plus although Christchurch/ Napier/ Southland boys have had good squads over the years they are not consistantly good, SBHS won the 2023 top 4 with a good squad, majority will probably be school leavers an in 2024 they might not be in the top 10 sort of how school rugby works. You keep claiming this grey team were u16, yet 10 of their starters are 17 year olds, how come SA fans like to makeup BS excuses all the time.
