My experience with the FTM300 and FTM200 (while great radio's feature wise) I don't think the build is that impressive for their cost. Problems with displays, problems with knobs, problems with noise, mine has problems with squelch. To those that have no issues - awesome.

Thanks for the great video and explaining how the PMG works. I've been thinking about buying a new mobile and ruled out the 500 just because of cost and what you get for the cost. I almost bought the 300 but was still looking at the differences between the 200 and 300. I really want the dual band monitor so I can listen to two different frequencies at the same time. Showing us how the PMG works was really nice. Now I know a really good work around to use the 200 like a 300 and save the cost for the extra band. Keep up making great videos! 73's

Did you ever resolve the hum/buzz issue? Curious, with that old of external speaker (I remember Craig from the 70/80's car stereo's), when we'd have a buzz like that it was generally a speaker ground or incompatibility of the head unit and speaker running different ohms. I'd start with testing the radio with a new external speaker. Beings the vid was posted 10 months ago, I'm sure you've got it squared away. I like the Beemer! Do a video on that :)
@KiloEcho5
@KiloEcho5 Год назад
The internal speaker makes the buzzing sound too. I have connected some Motorola external speakers along with some CB speakers and they all make the same buzz. Haven’t been able to solve the noise except road noise drowns it out.
@applejacks971

@@KiloEcho5 Interesting yet frustrating issue. I wonder if it could be backfeed through the vehicle? Have you hooked up to another vehicle or separate power source? I'm definitely no radio guru. Maybe try some ferrite chokes or those other things that the power cord gets wrapped around to reduce noise and interference? I've lucked out and my few installs haven't had issues. Pending the antenna, a couple Diamond models require the antenna itself to be grounded to the vehicle as well. I hope you get it figured out!

I've been running a FTM-300D as a base unit for a while. And I sure do love the clarity of C4FM and ease of use, compared to programming a DSTAR repeater into the radio. But the fact that Yaesu doesn't think that mobile users ever travel outside of their home town has kept me from running a Yaesu in the mobile. My ICOM 4100 has 11 memory banks programmed with over 500 repeaters, each for a specific region where I'm traveling to. Not sure why Yaesu thinks that memory banks are a good idea on my FT-5 but not on 50 watt mobile units. It doesn't make any sense. But upon seeing Joel's video above, and how easy it is to pick a repeater from memory and put it into PMG, I picked up a FTM-200 unit to give it a try. Still not sure why Yaesu stopped at 5 channels for the PMG; why not 10? Thanks Joel for the great review. And I agree, I'd much rather see the repeater names & frequencies flash by rather than a meaningless, "Mem scan". 73's
