My name is Diane and I am blind. Audio books are very important to me. I absolutely LOVE this App!!! But I am having a wee bit of a probblem. I only seem to get so far in a book, and then it just says "Buffering." I don't know why.
Haha, great minds think alike! I signed up for the lowest premium level so that I could get English videos translated to Chinese for my buddy in China. Really appreciate your very in-depth look at ElevenLabs' features - thank you, Dustin! (I didn't use much of the features, because the less of them I use, the more minutes of translation I save for the month's alottment to use later. You can, for instance, use the AI to replicate the voice of the speaker on the original video.) Sounds like the app might be even better than the pc version. Blessings! 💖🤗
I have been using Duolingo for just a few weeks shy of a year! They have a gay themed format! Which really bothers me!! I planned on deleting the app for their pushing their gay agenda!!!! I decided to stay Learning because they offered learning (despite their devious gay agenda…) I thought they were pro learning! Then they made their opportunities for working your way in learning if you didn’t want to pay for whatever reason … they are now daily taking away the ability to really learn by Super Pressure to Purchase their Max Duolingo!!!!! I thought Duolingo a fair app until this last few weeks give or take. I could earn my hearts ♥️Through diligent hard work 😓… Now they have taken that away … I am looking to finish my year streak and find another way to learn Spanish like Rosetta Stone ( which is free if you have a library card) I wanted to learn Spanish not be so frustrated that I no longer desire or enjoy Duolingo!!!! I feel they don’t appreciate those who work as hard as I do on their site - Looks like their Gay Agenda and Now their Lack of interest in serving all people in every economic situation to strive to learn languages is no longer important! Only Money and Twisted Abominations are their goals! So I will be saying Good Bye to Duolingo at my successful Year Streak!
You're welcome! The mini stories are great, but not the very easiest content within LingQ. You need anyway lots of content, so the more you read and listen to the better :). Which language are you learning?
Thank you so much for your positive feedback. If you are looking for a structured course to get a good overview about the grammar and the language, it can be definitely worth it. But I wouldn't use it as the main resources for learning. The main activity should be to develop a solid comprehension of the language, by reading and listening a lot. And then at a later point you can also start speaking.
Hello Brother Halo bruder Merhaba. I am over the moon to hear from you that you are willing to learn Arabic. I encourage you and wish you the best of luck😊
Merhaba :), for now, I'm learning Turkish, but Arabic is definitely on my list. The Arabic world is huge and it would be super cool to learn that language.
@@DustinSchermaul You’re absolutely right ! I wish you much of success in your learning process Dustin ! I am learning Turkish too , but Spanish is my priority. I also aim to learn German in the Future.
They need to improve the listening. I spoke in French and it wrote something completely different that I didn't pronounce at all. I said two words and it wrote a long sentence. Weird. I talk in a dictionary app instead and it writes what I said correctly.
I think it varies strongly by the different languages. There are still many things to be improved. Let's see in which direction it goes. And for so long, I will also try other similar apps to see what else is out there :).
@@kingbolo4579 It's just because I like coffee or sometimes also a tea and I usually drink that when I sit down to learn, for example. Nobody wants to see a robot talking, but a real human ;-).
Small Update: They now have added a new functionality to train specific situations like a hotel check-in or how to order in a restaurant. That's super useful!
Thank you so much for your positive feedback! :) Yes, there are many new apps etc. to explore. Do you have any specific in mind that I should take a look at?
@@DustinSchermaul No, lol, I wait to see what you'll find and share, but thank you very kindly for asking. 💖 You're amazing at this! How's the Turkish going? (Bet you're pretty fluent by now.) 😎
@@halleluyah8241 no problem, just wanted to ask :). Thank you so much! Turkish is progressing, but I'm suuuuper far away from fluency. Still many things to learn and understand, but I'm not in a rush. Language learning is a marathon, not a sprint. The more time I spend with the language, the more fascinating it gets. 🙂
@@DustinSchermaul That's the perfect attitude about it - keep things fun and loose! 🤗 It makes a big difference in our capacity to retain what we learn. I've been working on the accusative (o yumurtayi = that egg, etc.) and also what I think of as the copula because it's so similar to the Hebrew copular use of "this" (e.g.) as inclusive of the verb "is" - when you're trying to say something like "This is a girl" - so if you were translating it literally, it would just look like "This girl." (Sorry, that was probably as clear as mud. 😂) The real challenge, for me, is Chinese because of the characters. If you know of a good system for learning Pinyin, I would really appreciate hearing about it. In the meantime, slow and teady wins the race. God bless you, my friend.
@@halleluyah8241 haha yes that was really a little complicated what you've written, but I think I've understood it! About the learning the Chinese characters. So I know from the videos of Robin MacPherson, he actually used an app called Skritter for that and said it should be very good: skritter.com/ He also made a video about it. Maybe it helps you: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5Pglt4az_N0.html Have a great week! :)
Not sure if I can trust AI, what if it teaches me wrong stuff? Does LingQ have a similar feature of chatting with AI? don't really want to take up so many subscriptions.
You're totally right. This is something we really need to be careful of. But I've also already been taught wrong stuff by human teachers. We should always be critical and check the sources. LingQ does not yet have such a feature, and I don't know if they will introduce it. But as said, this is still in the early stages and I wouldn't say that it's a “must-buy”, but rather a “nice to have”. I also just got a monthly subscription and have canceled it to try out some more stuff.
?Was this your experience? ... I went to their site and clicked on get started and the only options were to "continue with: google, linkedin or telegram" There was no place to use an email address to get started. Is that what you experienced? Also there was no 'contact' link that i could find.
Hey BTS, yes, for now they only have the option for you to get signed up via the logins you've mentioned... As said, they are still in their early stages and everything is still far from perfect. Hopefully they'll also offer the option to sign up by email soon. That's what I usually also prefer to do rather.
Thank you for this video, I feel I know where to get started with LinQ now. I have been using Duolingo for 4 months and been making Duolingo sentences into anki cards. I was feeling frustrated because I am still below A1 and felt I was not making decent progress. Would you recommend dropping Duolingo completely and just using LinQ now? Would I still learn grammar through this method ? (J'étudie français.) Thanks!
That's a good question! The first step should be to also develop an overall comprehension, like understanding texts in written and spoken form and/or videos etc. Depending on the language, it can of course also help or be even necessary to also understanding a bit of the structure of the language. I just noticed that while learning Turkish. To get a good overview, languagetransfer is a great tool. In the end it's very individual and there are many ways that lead to success.
Honestly most games needs to be like the Yakuza series, where you can hit ESC and it freezes the screen regardless of what is happening. Not all games do this, especially during cut scenes that are integral to story comprehension. It's sad to miss out of fully learning a story because you weren't fast enough to process what was being said or written, simply because a basic QoL feature like a universal pause function is absent.
Jup I would also really like that. Also in general, because I can't ensure to sit down and play for hours, but instead only a few minutes at a time, which really doesn't help with that.
I tried using Duolingo, but every time I used it I was asked to translate sentences like ,“are you his boyfriend” , and never a sentence like, “are you her boyfriend”. It seems like they hate heterosexuality. I think the main goal of Duolingo is not to teach languages, but to push a certain agenda. I deleted the app.
I'm sorry to hear that. I've also encountered a few of those phrases, but not as frequent as you had them as it seems. When it gets's too political, it can be annoying, for sure.
Duolingo is kind of crap, but it's good to give you a general idea of a language. Use it a a kickstart. But don't think that Duolingo will make you fluent. Buy books. Read.
I do not think that app is good. Free version is shit for noobs without money fully fucked up with advertisement. Premium? isn‘t worth it becquse those duolingo fuckers didn‘t add my language (in app : My tongue) So for me showing only goods about it is only 1/2 of review
Hmmmm, I am not sure on any of that other than the process goal right now. I should work on filling in more of these for a clear picture. How do you track your time with the language?
Those goals really help to actually put in the time needed to make progress. I use an app called clockify and just have one counter per language. I don't get more detailed than that.
Do you have a video about your typical daily/weekly routines around language learning? I just found your channel, and it seems like many videos are about one language, but I'm curious how you manage to be consistent with several languages and a few different tasks for each language. Previously, I've done weekly goals but I'm noticing that certain tasks are more effective if I do them (almost) every day. What do you suggest for creating an achievable schedule?
Hey Holler, I have one about learning multiple languages at the same time, which goes into that direction, but I definitely should make one about my daily routine. It's on my list, I just didn't find time yet to do it. I try to learn each and every language every day, but some are just in maintenance mode. There is always just one beginner language that I practice. The other languages are at least at an intermediate level. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LrxnEHK9Fi0.html
@DustinSchermaul Thanks! I had only looked as far back as the beginning of the year. An updated learning overview would be great when you have a chance, especially since you have added a language 😀
@@hollerodriguez356 Okay, it's on the list. Well it has been for longer, but this video will require some more work, because I will need to carry my camera around :D. Hopefully I get to that soon.
Enough with the coffee slurping already, it is a really unattractive sound to listen to, and everybody knows you are just trying to copy Robin MacPhearson.
Sorry to hear that it's such a horrific sound for you ^^. As far as I know, Robin hasn't patented to drink coffee yet. But I'll ask him the next time he's giving an update ;).
Um, just a heads up, the free version has the dojo (but it uses your 5 minute session), the word collection, and you can start a section over again to relearn (also uses your sessions for the day). And the topics aren't all locked, you typically have one or two of each section.
@DustinSchermaul lol, I kind of figured because a couple years ago you were right on! They just opened the audio portion to free users as well in the last 6 months, but you only get 1 section per 24 hour block like the quizzes.
First non-Indoeuropean language for you. Could be thought of as a brave step. But you are a confident language learner and can handle the challenge, I’m sure! 😊
Thank you so much for your positive words :). That motivates me even more to do it. It feels already rewarding, and I can relate much better to others learning more difficult languages.
Actually found you when I logged back into my Journaly account. I had been working on Thai when I got Covid and it just wasn't working because my brain just felt so fuzzy. I wound up working on a Native American language after a few months, until I got it again. Lol. After about a year I went back to Drops for French.... a language I took in high school. Thinking I need to branch out to more than vocabulary, but don't want to spend an hour on language a day like I had been.
Oh, wow, how cool! I will definitely start using Journaly again at some point. Many people have the same issue with COVID and brain fuzziness... :(. Hope you are fully recovered by now. Well, in the end, we should find the right routine that works for us under our circumstances and the time that we can spend without burning out or neglecting other important areas of life.
@@DustinSchermaul Lol, tell me about it! 😆 But if anybody CAN pick it up quickly, it's you, Dustin. ✨ My favorite ESL students are Turkish, and they're so delighted when they discover you're learning their language. They love to help you. I hope you can find some native speakers. Thank you very kindly for your excellent work here. All the best to you!
@@halleluyah8241 thank you so much :). That's what I always really like, is to get to know people from other cultures, just to see that we are all not that different. For now, I will stick to working on my comprehension, but at some point there will be lots of speaking activities of course ;).
Great video. Just a question, i am currenly in milestone 20 - spanish. May I know what happen once we reached milestone 25? Is there going to be a challenge/game
Hey Muhammad, I'm sorry to say that nothing really happens once you have reached the highest milestone… I've also been a bit disappointed by that. Hopefully the Drops team adds something at some point.
Okay here's my input as much as I love Italy. I had to put my Italian progress in favour of Japanese. I consider learning languages that fit those criteria. A. I like the language x but it's useless= I might learn it. B. I hate the language x but it's useful= I won't learn it. C. I like the language x and it's useful. 100% I'll learn it. So I would learn languages from category A and then after I mastered them I would start learning C. Meanwhile I'll omit B.
Hm, thanks for the interesting comment. But why don't you focus first on C and then move to A? In the end, we have anyway only so much time... :( So it's not possible to learn all the languages we would like to learn, unfortunately.
