Hold up, don’t do Noel dirty like that. He proved the allegations against him to be ballshit basically when they happened and cuz non of the papers and journalists who cover stuff like that ever write about the follow up when they’re in the wrong and have to apologise, because of that people still see him as that and he continues to get a bad rep.

Great video, man. Thank you for making this. I swear though, all it does is fill me with fantastic ideas of how I'd be a better show runner than RTD. I'm gay, I write, and I'm sitting here watching Claws of Axos after watching your video and thinking, man, I'd have the place ship shape in no time. We'd have this thing running like it did during the Third Doctor.

Christopher Eccleston is definitely my Doctor, and I believe that he was the best Doctor in the show's history. He had the perfect balance of quirkiness and seriousness that the Doctor needs. He felt real, and that overcame the cheesiness of the rest of the production. I'd love to see him back someday.

The sad thing was seeing Chris become more at home with the fanbase over time, and willing to see how much his take on the role meant to people... and the slow return to the show, discussing the 50th with Moffat, working with Big Finish... only to then see the three people he hates the most given the golden goose again, but his time with more control than ever at Bad Wolf... to know he'll never be on our screens again as the 9th Doctor. Such a shame.

This is a very thoughtful video about Christopher Eccleston's role in Doctor who which is very rare to see anywhere. Thank you for this. I also thought that John Barrowman had quite a spiteful character assassination against Chris in his autobiography when he said that Chris was grumpy, lacked charisma and was too intense compared to David Tennant. This got Digital Spy very angry because he was basically criticising his personality. Chris's dad had vascular dementia and stage 4 cancer at the time. Chris himself was suffering from anorexia, depression and body dysmorphia. Even before Chris relealed the later in his own autobiography, Digital spy members said that Chris may have been unhappy at the time and he didn't need his co-star giving him a blow. Digital spy members are very smart and astute people.

I really want to know more about what Russell and Julie did specifically. I love the media they produce and Russell's return has seen Doctor Who immediately bounce back after Chibnall gutted it. So it would be good to know if they're shitty people who will misuse their power. So far the worst things I've heard are what happened AFTER Chris was leaving and stuff that OTHER people were doing during the production. What was done to Chris was shitty and leadership are responsible for what happens under their watch. But, for example, there is a difference between somebody who actively takes part in bullying and somebody who doesn't do anything to stop it. Both are shit and if a leader allows certain things to happen, that in itself should disqualify them from future leadership positions. Everything feels very vague right now. I really want to know if there's anything the leaders actively did or how bad were the things they allowed to happen.

Agreed. I will add though that an out of control set for a lead actor has to be the worst thing a person can feel. It’s your show, it’s your fault if the show fails. The show didn’t fail but clearly Christopher looked at this and went “nah, I am out.” I guarantee he brought up the issues of the poor treatment and long hours that was wearing on the cast and crew up and was more or less told to be quiet. Combine this with them saying that he left because of exhaustion and you have an understanding of his anger. Not only did they try and hurt him by not supporting the show, not providing a safe workplace on the set but then they tried to ruin his career. The showrunners and people responsible clearly knew what was going on and they felt he was likely being a whiner about things.

Bounce back? Sure the dude can can actually write stories but its impossible to watch when there is just blatant use of propaganda that's trying to lecture and indoctrinate people, where messaging is paramount over any sort of narrative, Doctor Who was always about the SiFi. Just because he used Tenant and other famous actors to draw attention, that isn't indictive to how good Doctor Who is.

It really is a shame about all this, and it really does sour a bit of the otherwise fantastic Series One to know about all this. Christopher Eccleston is a fantastic actor (he’s probably one of best actors to play the character outside of John Hurt and Peter Capaldi) and it would be wonderful to see him again. That being said, like Colin Baker before him on Time and the Rani, I bare him no ill will for just saying: ‘no’ to any returns. It’s also lovely to also see him at conventions and stuff. It’s clear that what happened didn’t just sour him on Doctor Who and he obviously loves the fans. He’s also, seemingly, someone who’ll stand up for himself and others, which I also greatly respect. And whatever he wants, or thinks will be better for his health is more important to me than the shrill fan service of him sharing the screen with Tennant or Smith.

Barefoot Gen forever changed how I think of war, and it's horrors. I feel so profoundly attached to Gen's character, and feel like there is a depth to Gen the film don't fully show. First Anime I ever went out and brought on DVD so I could rewatch it. Keiji Nakazawa really makes this profound human tragedy so vivid and personal for all to see. I still can't watch it without crying. The only issue I ever had is that at some moments, you can't help but feel like Gen is hiding all the pain and sorrow away, so he can keep his family going, and fulfill his father's last wish. One of the rare moments where you get a peek into Gen's private world is when he finds the storehouse with the rice. As he goes from hope, to despair upon seeing the the rice is burned up, and back to an almost hysterical state when he realizes some of it is actually still edible. I love Gen's brave face, but I still feel like Nakazawa hid the real trauma Gen experienced to tell the story. While I have nothing but respect and admiration for Keiji Nakazawa and the Barefoot Gen story, I feel it would have had even more impact if he would have allowed us just a little peek of what the bomb did to Gen emotionally. Barefoot Gen film is THE greatest and probably most important story of the atomic bomb and it's true cost in history! This Aname, and the Manga that inspired it should be considered a World Cultural History artifact and guarded as such. I wish every young person in the world had a chance not only to read, but to Experience Keiji Nakazawa's Barefoot Gen, and learn from it.

One of the many reported reasons that caused more tension during series one was the director of the first production block Keith Boak was verbally abusive and bullying extras and crew. Chris stood up to Boak for their treatment, and was quite angered by Phil Colinsons lack of response to the incident. There's also the flaming sofa incident which nearly killed/hurt extras in the scene.

@dubstepzsi if you watch the recent footage of Chris from the convention where he shares the stage with Paul Mcgann and Colin Baker, towards the end of the video he mentions clashing with Keith Boak (without name dropping). Think it's actually the first time he's ever confirmed that was what happened, any other time he keeps the feud talk about RTD and the other producers

That interview with Phil Collinson at the end gives me very bad vibes with the context of what Chris has said. No acknowledgement of the troubles on set, nothing but praise for the actor and trying to frame it as planned perfection. Very suspicious. Other than that, I fully agree, while I loved Tennant and Capaldi, Eccleston will always be *my* doctor. People always say Tennant was the most human portrayal of the character, which I can see, but Eccleston seemed far more caring, far less destructive when he was upset and so much more personable.
@Captain_Tipper
@Captain_Tipper Год назад
Yeah in the interview he does address a few production issues but agree on the whole, Phil was definitely in the wrong with how he ran things in that first season. Though I really liked his summary there that even though it wasn't planned it did turn out beautiful and the fact that series 1 is so good despite all these problems was how I wanted to end that bit of the vid.

The Barefoot Gen film is THE greatest animated interpretation of the atomic bombings in history! i mean the visiuals for the bombing scene itself may be scary and depressing but it was also really well detailed it truly captured the vision of Keiji Nakazawa's experiences in surviving the event!

I think it's funny how live-action movies like _The Day After_ , _Threads_ , and the _Terminator_ don't really anything truly horrifying like in animation such as _Barefoot Gen_ or _Pikadon_ .
@Freesoler01
@Freesoler01 Год назад
@@kennyl4699 Well, we all know The Day After , Threads , and the Terminator are fake! What makes Barefoot Gen so horrifying and emotionally vivid, is that we come into it knowing the story is based on real events. Everyone knows Hiroshima, Japan was bombed with a nuclear weapon August 6, 1945, and tangible artifacts of that event, such as the Hiroshima peace memorial (the bombed out building with the skeleton of a dome on top) still exist. You can go and stand in the places depicted in the film. Anything real is much more emotionally moving.

I don’t trust Russell anymore… And that breaks my heart to say but my reason for this is because of how he treats some people, I have been a fan of Russell’s since Doctor Who came back I was a kid way back then as I’m sure we all were who love the show even to this day, I followed many other pieces of his work and agreed with most of his views yet, When this whole situation came out about Russell and Chris I found it hard to believe yet have personally experienced latterly Russell’s wrath, I logged into my Instagram accounts to discover that Russell had blocked me on everything I have absolutely no idea why, I’ve never made a wrong move against him or any of his beliefs or views in fact it’s thanks to Russell that I’m so accepting of people from all ages and all walks of life his writing showed me how we should treat people with kindness and respect never to judge or push aside through Doctor Who I leaned how to be a better person to be stronger and wiser but it’s a-shame Russell can’t listen to our hero instead he attacks fans on the internet and blocks them if he does not agree with their views, I understand that sometimes we disagree with people and that is perfect fine we are all allowed our opinions our beliefs as long as you are a good person and do good to and for others but Russell doesn’t understand this he isn’t a kind or understanding person he doesn’t accept people or take into consideration the thoughts or needs of others, It’s why Chris got so much abuse working on the show he was told to leave and blacklisted like you said in the video, As for fans who have supported Russell loved his work for many years who randomly and without question or answer gets blocked without any reason, He does not care that’s as simple as I can put it, I don’t trust Russell as a person anymore, I think his a fantastic writer he knows what to put into a script he knows how to write people but he doesn’t know how to treat them.

Eccleston seemed to handle himself well. I get the impression fairness matters to him. He really needed better treatment. That scenario about Barrowmen: 😬 That concept about 'only the new people seeming concerned' is a common enough occurrence that it's been given a name. (I can't remember it. Something to do with 'stair?' 'Flying stair?') Where the group shrug off a problematic member's behaviour and tell the new people to just work around it: Huge red flag. The entire group is compromised.

"Six words" I can describe them in a single word: Sexism. Looking "tired" is only an accusation against women. Men are allowed to look tired without consequence. For men, looking tired is just evidence of how hard they're working to achieve their goals.
