Hi! My name is Sam and welcome to my channel! I'm a dad and husband that wants to learn to be more self reliant for my family and myself and hopefully inspire others to do the same. I am not an expert at, well, pretty much anything but I do have an unfounded confidence and dangerous determination to both learn and try. So follow me on my journey as I try and succeed (as well as try and fail!) in the myriad of projects I have unwisely burdened myself with. Things are about to get interesting!
Hey so I just replaced my air shocks and the air compressor because it wasn’t working. When the compressor comes on when I turn on my suburban it runs for about 2-3 seconds and then it shuts off. Is the air shock supposed to have air in it? I can press the on the shock (the black bag part) pretty easily if that makes sense. Apparently mines been broken since I purchased my suburban 4 years ago and I never knew 🤣 so I’m not sure how it’s supposed to work exactly.
@@AztkSmooth well hopefully you feel a much another ride now! Sounds like it’s working correctly. The only time you’ll hear the compressor run longer is if you have a bunch more weight in the vehicle than normal. I drove my teenage son and some of his buddies around a few days ago and the compressor ran for a bit longer either that load. 😂 There’s an inner shock that you compressed to install it so that carries the weight. The bag being soft is totally normal. Looks like you’re in great shape! Congrats!
Great video!! I had a 2015 Suburban (with 348K on it) that I just upgraded for a 2019 Suburban (with 114K). LOVE these vehicles!! (IMO, the original honeycomb grille looks way better than that aftermarket stick-on thing you've got going there.)
@@thebronzetoo this is my second Tahoe in the last twenty years. Both have been incredible vehicles for me. Did you ever do the DOD delete in your 2015 Tahoe? Wondering if I should or not. As far as the grill, I totally get it! It’s a fun look we went with but they are great looking vehicles right off of the lot. Thanks again!
@@Srdelkuerno it’s difficult to say. The bag itself isn’t necessarily going to be the only sign. There is still an inner shock that will have been compress when you installed it. The main thing is the ride (does it feel stiff and bumpy?) and if your compressor continually runs. Do you hear the compressor for a few seconds when you first start the car? If so, you should be good.
@@jakeregencia8621 that’s so great to hear. I appreciate you sharing. We are capable! We can get stuff done with each other’s help! Thank you very much for sharing.
Before you install them, you could coat the rubber with a dressing Keeping the heat, UV rays, etc from destroying the rubber and making it last a little bit longer.
@@NoahLowry-r6z absolutely! I like a little more vanilla than recipes usually call for but you leave it out or double it, you’ll notice it. We make our own vanilla so it’s a higher quality than most store bought stuff. That also will make a difference.
85 ft. lbs is what I found but the overall consensus is get them tight. You won't over tighten them unless your using a cheater bar or something crazy. Some aftermarket parts specs are as high as 135 ft. lbs. Just to give you some reference. Good luck on your project!
Nice installation the only concern i would have is to make a loop vs snaking / switch backing the cord from the outlet to the retractable extension cable. I would be worried about broke cable strands or heat generation and fatigue there. Besides that nice install. :)
@@axelrod21 that’s a great recommendation. I am going to do that. I like it to look neat but it would be in vain if it just wore out the whole thing quickly. Appreciate it! Thank you! 🙏
Hi I have a 2017 suburban premier I can not for the life of me find the oem part number for rear shocks and mine are so dirty and caked up I can’t find it on the nose ones on the vehicle. Can you help me out?! Is it the same as yours? Is it the magneride z95? I can’t even confirm if that’s the right type for my vehicle. Can you help?
@@corrinwade6132 I found GM Part # 84176675/AC Delco Part #84176675. I use gmparts.com to find specific part numbers. You can find them on the diagram then do your own research as to where you want to buy them from. Just be careful. There’s a ton of counterfeit parts online now. Hope that helps!
I've heard they are easy to use. You fell they are safe and no issues down the line? I have a bag of them. Just haven't used them yet. Appreciate your thoughts on it.
Great video, i love it when people show actual struggles, let's me know what i will truly have to endure when i tackle the same task. Btw you favor the character Gregory from The Walking Dead. Thanks again. }i will be doing this for my 2016 Chevy Sub LTZ. I'm disabled so it will probably take me several days to GET IT DONE, but i still have tools from my working days. I just dread the spams that come when i do anything. #sicklecelldisease sux! Thanks again for your video.
Oh brother! I am so sorry to hear about your health. That's terrible. But I love that you're not letting it slow you down! What a Champion and example to all. And if you like the struggles, watch any one of my videos. They all seem to come with their fair share.😂😂 Thank you so much for the kind words and support. I have no doubt you'll get yours done better than me!
Defaced flag. Gang colors. Back the blue till they come for you. Meanwhile you're pitching race to the bottom price point products. Got a real intellectual type here.
You have me lost @Look_What_You_Did! I respect your opinion to not support Law Enforcement if that's what you are implying. I, on the other hand, very much do. That's why I love this country. It's made up of all different opinions and positions on various topics and gives us the freedom to have those opinions. It's really what makes us great as a nation!
@@LTCustomsLLC i was referring to 1st half video when he put a 2nd outlet in ceiling. could've just used an extender then hung reel instead of turning the single gang into a double. other than a cord reel or garage door opener or led shop light there isn't much you are going to plug into a ceiling outlet cause cord will fall out. guy done a good job. not complaining about that. just pointing out a faster, easier way for someone that isn't experienced or comfortable doing this type of work. Me personally, I would've done exactly what this guy done but have the 2nd receptacle switched. reel and opener on unswitched, then lights could be added to the switched side.
That would certainly be a good option as well! I'm anticipating other things possibly using the outlet on the ceiling so I wanted the permanence and stability of the outlets but you are absolutely correct. That is a quick and simple option for anyone needing to go that route. Appreciate the input and support! Thank you!
Boy would I love to! 🥵 In due time. I have 4 kids in High School and am putting my wife through flight school so hopefully the budget allows for it sometime soon. Thank you so much for the support! It's greatly appreciated!
My dad was a body man and when I was young would not watch him repair stuff and just go in my room and listen to music and play guitar. When the first big repair job came and it was $600 ($1235 in today’s money), I went and bought a Haynes manual. I consulted my father who had a bunch of tools at home and not just at the shop. I also had him to guide me even though he wasn’t a mechanic. I never looked back and here I am decades later getting old and still doing as much as I can. The more technology the more barriers to jump. I’ve had all the surprise difficulties that make a 4 hour job last days. You have to wait for the next weekend to continue many times.
Thank you so much for sharing! If you had turned out to be Jimmy Page, that guitar playing wouldn't seem a bad idea! 🤣 That's so great that your dad helped you. My dad wasn't handy but was great at many other things. I am just trying to encourage people to go out there and try. Things are only getting more expensive and yet we have more options to learn from than ever before. Love that you found that motivation too! Thank you very much for the support! It's greatly appreciated.
Thank you so much for the kind words! I actually work in the ER of a hospital so I ran it past a few doctor friends of mine to confirm the correct procedure. However, I had already heard about the basic concept from other wrestling parents. Apparently few actually ever tried it themselves. Their loss! Thanks again for your support!
Man you made this look soo easy. I have to replace both headlights and couldn't figure it out. I bought two on Amazon. I will get it done after my trip. I will be replacing both fenders the grill and the grill support. This video most definitely show me what i could not figure out. I will be focusing on my rear shocks before i go on my trip, that i saw you do on your other video. I have a 2016 suburban LTZ. I may get the front fenders prepainted. Both my headlights are broken in the same place, as yours...one turn signal light is out will just replace that for now. Great videos thanks man. Oh btw...you favor Gregory from the walking dead...yup...getting Gregory vibes...lol
😂I've actually heard the Gregory reference before. I'll take it! Appreciate the kind words. It really isn't too bad at all. Just one step at a time. I only wish I had someone to help me take on and off the front bumper, That thing is pretty unwieldy to handle alone, but obviously possible! You'll do great brother! I have no doubts! Thank you for the support.
Any opinion on replacing the air shocks with regular non-air shocks. I’ve got the same ‘1800s’ wagon ride and would be interested in your opinion. Thanks :)
@@JJ-np1ig it is possible but there’s a lot to consider. You’ll probably throw DTC codes for your suspension and likely the ABS system as well if you just install the regular shocks. Also, the coil springs that come with an air shock system are traditionally very soft so they’d likely need to be replaced as well. If you’re not concerned with any of that stuff, then you can absolutely throw on standard shocks. Just things to be aware of and consider. Let me know what you decide! I’m interested in learning what the outcome is! Thanks for the great question and support!
Great question! Your vehicle will ride pretty rough. They’re the main shock absorber in the rear of the vehicle. Eventually your compressor will burn out as well which is an additional cost if you ever want to get it repaired. But ultimately, you can continue to drive the vehicle. It may contribute to a bit more wear and tear on it though. GM loads their vehicles up with plastic bits which like to wiggle loose and even fall off when the vehicle is riding rough for an extended period of time. Appreciate the question and support!
Thanks for the video! I wanted to see what my mechanic was talking about from the quote he gave me to replace them. Ugh! I don’t hear my compressor running anymore so I’m wondering now if it is burned out. (I haven’t replaced them yet) my Tahoe is riding like a 1800’s wagon so it’s gonna have to be done.
🤣 1800’s wagon. You’re awesome. You could check the electrical connector to the compressor if you wanted to verify it was getting signal and not turning on, which means the compressor is shot. If you know the rubber boot on the shock has holes and the compressor is not running then most likely they all need to be replaced. But don’t worry! The compressor is pretty darn basic to switch out as well so you can do it! I’d love to hear how it turns out!
Significantly cheaper. I’ve only had them on for a little over a month but have had zero issues so far! Compressor doesn’t run endlessly either. Well worth the effort!
OMFG! Open the air relief valve at the top of the filter assembly so that you can relieve the vacuum so you can easily open it. (turn it to the left about a half turn, you'll easily feel it) You're having a hard time because you have no clue what you're doing. You drove f'n screwdrivers into the side of the damn thing!? Have you never had pool school? How about you go watch other videos on pool care before posting this crap. Cleaning your filters twice a year is the MINIMUM. I usually clean mine every 4 months and I don't have a dog. Buy a second set of filters and rotate them so that you can break up the task of cleaning your pool filters to make this process easier.
