Still have a huge soft spot for the retro live-action opening. In many ways it feels the most "Critical Role" to me, as opposed to campaign-specific. ...And yes, it was also the one I first watched repeatedly, since I came onboard during C2. Your first campaign is like your first Doctor, I think. It may not stay your absolute favorite forever, but it will always be special on some level.
everyone's dunking on the first one saying it's bad cosplay but I like it better than the second one. The costume marisha wears in that lets her do actual cool ninja moves and everyone just looks cool.
Well fuck me running. I just realized that the Bell's Hells animated intro has Matt slamming a book closed. I just now realized it was (purposefull or not) a callback to this intro. Jesus these peoples brains are amazing.
I find it so funny, how travis tends to have way more interactions with marisha, than laura and the real couples in generell are most of the time split up. I like it, it is not this, couples where the individuums are fused happen to interact but just a wholesome group of friends with a lot of interesting dynamics. it is so much more fun that way.
I love this group but man these openings are like high school theater kids 😄 no but seriously I genuinely think very highly of them, but it's very campy 😆except for the one when they're in their living room, I love that one
Today in "shit everyone probably already noticed but I didn't" it always perplexed me why they got billed the way they did, with Travis then Marisha then Tal etc. for the first three intros Now I realise its alphabetical to the names of their C1 characters
Yup, alphabetical order of their C1 character names. It continued into the first intro of Campaign 2 (the 80's themed one) before changing for the animated intro
The first time I saw the cast dressed as vm I was so blown away, I rewatched it about 50 times and then again at least once a day for like 2 months haha. It’s still gives me chills when I watch it and I instantly get hyped for some crazy vm shenanigans 😄
Hopefully 40-50 sessions from now well get another intro, including a short respectful shot of the dear old party member who was with them for 3 episodes
3 is the 80's, since that was when D&D first got big. It's also why the D&D Beyond ad Sam made felt like an 80's Saturday morning cartoon, because that's the intention they were going for.
Former friend of the gang, played with them during their home game (C1 is a continuation of their home game rather than starting from the beginning like C2 was). He played a Dragonborn Sorcerer named Tiberius Stormwind and was a founding member of the party. Thing is Orion did some super shitty things. Creepy comments to the women in the group (especially Laura, in front of Travis no less) that crossed the line from characters RPing together and into genuine RL creepiness. Cheating on his dice rolls and how many sorcerer points he had left, constantly enough that the others (usually Sam) would start watching his dice closely to keep him honest. A heavy min-maxer instead of the RP-focused group the rest of them were. Drug abuse in his own personal life (granted I believe he was having a cancer scare at the time too). Most troubling was his taking money intended for a charity donation and using it in his personal gain. After a few months of this going on, the rest of them finally had enough and he was booted from the table and the company after C1E24 (with him being absent for a few episodes before Matt finally announced he would not be returning). Generally people liked Tiberius but disliked Orion, for very good reasons.
