I use an electric dehumidifier. It has a cooling element and fan and the water collects in a small container. No chemicals just electricity, it makes a soft sound of the fan.
Hi Di and Sam. Go you with the plants Di. Yep nature a great way to help. Thanks for the tip on the lemon in the vinegar. Lunch looked nice and inviting Di. There is nothing wrong with allowing yourself to take the simple way. Hold your head high girl. You might want something in front of top shelf to stop things falling when travelling. Looks great mate you did an awesome job.
That cupboard looks great and I'm sure the space is working so much better now. Our oldest 3 kids have lived in caravans for years , the moisture is a constant battle. Opening everything up daily is a must , regularly washing curtains, bedding etc . Not very environmentally friendly of me but budget friendly, we put cups of crystal cat litter around on shelves , it's the same stuff in the little packets and a whole lot cheaper . We've tried the bentonite clay ( we use that for actual cat litter and to seal our leaky dam) but it doesn't work well enough ( in our climate maybe ) Freezing rain is awful, I don't enjoy that bit about southern winters. The plants and copper accents look beautiful. Thank you for sharing lovelies ❤❤
Ahh that's so good to know re cat crystals!! I guess when living in our day and age there's certain environmental impacts we can't avoid hey 😞 need more people researching alternatives! Thank you for sharing my lovely. The space is much more functional and homely. We currently have to strap the shelves when moving but will eventually find an easier method! The rains are freezing indeed, glad for sun to thaw out with hahaha
I have already purchased a dehumidifier for our house to be transferred to the bus when complete. Condensation will always be a problem, so the wife and I decided a dehumidifier would be the best option overall. Your bus is certainly looking more and more complete!! Can't wait to get on the road and travel in the near future myself!
Good idea, supposedly our aircon should have 1, need to investigate properly. It certainly is homely, living in it helps bring the cost side out! Can't wait for you too!!!
Not what you needed on that morning of all mornings! Can I recommend some maxtrax, as they are such a blessing in these types of situations. Its great you know your todo list and your feel it is all doable. Another step forwards 😀
A few people have suggested these but we're still figuring out if these will handle the weight of the bus as we have seen 4WDs break these let alone a 13 tonne giant!! Thanks for the encouragement lovely 😻
Tec will not know me. This is for tec. I will not be learned. We are human. It ? Now for you. You are lucky it runs and moves. I'm am a bus driver. So no information fowared. Looks like a person converted it lake of info
My absolute fave! They've weezled their way into the bed the past month and I love it hahaha Eris is koolie X border collie And Ti is Kelpie X collie haha 🤣 Such softies!
One of the 18v chainsaws is handy to have as a backup for pinched bars. But of course they cost money. I've found my Makita 2 battery one is something I actually use a lot.
@@DiandSam they are only good for smaller branches but still useful. You couldn't chop up a tree like that one in the video for example. Good luck with it all.
OMG - what an image to open with. I have had bogged cars in the paddocks over the years. Another time people came in checking power lines and brought a big cherry picker - they bogged that and the last time was about 4 years ago when I ordered a truck of firewood..... It is such a horrible experience, and even if you get it out quite often you only get a meter or 3 only to get the vehicles bogged again. Watching the bus move and the back wheels spinning was 'epic'. A bugger about not getting the roadworthy, but as you say it forces your hand to chip away at the jobs that are left. You're like me - any new place, you have to check out the local nursery, lol. Take Care. Susan xxxx
Hi ya Di and Sam a few minor things to do , both of you are fantastic, been through so many Roadworthys and been bogged with 6wd trucks and dogs so many times, fingers crossed next time you go. Take care and stay safe cheers from a dry Qld 🌟🌟🚎❤️
Thanks Barry, we're pretty happy with the list it could've been worse! Oh gosh getting a big heavy rig like that bogged would be quite the ordeal, got any tips or is it a matter of getting someone with an equally large rig to pull you put? Take care, hope you are resting and staying warm ❤️🌿💪
Hi Di and Sam. Oh guys my heart is going out to you. You should look into some Maxtrax as might help when trying to get out off the bog. Sam your a legend man. I’m glad the drive was at least stress less for you Sam. Daylesford is a nice place for a rest and recoup. Dogs are the best when your struggling keep them close. It’s good it’s a positive list. Your both being very positive about it. Proud off you guys. Good to see you both nurturing yourselves some. You have both worked so hard. Just think the bus will be extra ready when you start the real trip. Keep the chin up guys.
Hey Rose, were definitely on the look out for some ramps or something similar, problem is the weight of the bus, whatever the products it has to be able to handle over 6 tonne. I know haha it's kind of a blessing isn't it! We get to actually finish it and that's where the money will go rather than crazy mechanical things. I've heard of people being stung with 5K+ in repairs, we were honestly gearing up to go home at the end of the month. Now we can breathe again!
@@DiandSam I’ve sent an email to you with some that might work. I’m not sure of weight of buss. But will keep an eye open when research things for myself. 5k is an ouches and it’s a good thing you won’t have to hightail it home again at end of month. But if you did it wouldn’t be a fail only a smart move until all was right with the buss/your home. As it better and more important it’s safe for you guys. No shame in that.
Awww guys this was hard to watch, knowing how upbeat and positive you guys are about everything and seeing this get you down was tough. Hope things are better for you now. When you come and stay here we'll make sure you're parked somewhere that can't get bogged 😊
Awww you are just beautiful thank you darling. Between the lack of caffeine, the premature wake up and the relentless rain it was definitely a tough start to the morning, I'm just glad we turned it around... But oh man we definitely took the rest of the week off and just did nothing to recover! ❤️❤️❤️
@DiandSam we can't wait to meet you guys in person. I know it sounds weird but when you have a day like that try and remember that it's just one bad day and that one day you will sit together and laugh about it. We have had some awful days on the farm but I try to find 3 good things out of every bad thing, mindset is everything!
I really like you guys 🎉, it’s like waiting for the next exciting episode on streaming TV for the next video , can’t wait but I guess I’ll have to 🥹. Good luck fixing the bus up
Comment of the night!!! ❤️😊 I love this so much! Thank you greatly for the high praise, we are humbled 🤗 can't wait for you to see the next one, it's a bloody ripper! Take care friend
Well now at least you have a list of things to complete!!! By metal in the drivers space, was that metal frame or sheet metal still exposed? After having my funds run dry from being off work for 3 months, I am now finally been able to continue on with my build. Hoping to have high level electrical done this weekend and quite possibly following weekend final A/C bracings welded in and insulation completed. Then onto Internal lining!!!!
That's right!! So we finally know what we're dealing with! No more darkness there's some hope in it after all. Metal frame mostly was exposed, this was an area we gutted and never worked on so it was what the bus was 2 years ago. Oh man that's brutal we definitely feel you, hoping the electrics get underway soon 😊💪 take care Johno!
Gosh you must be up our way... we had that horrible weather... Welcome to the region clay clay and more clay 😆🤣Was so holding my breathing watching the bus struggle to get going. Have spent many hundred dollars at that nursery. Fingers crossed the fixes are not too dramatic
Yes makes me want to do some pottery 😜😂 Me too I think that's why I couldn't breathe! 😅 Hahaha so glad it's over and feeling like we're on more solid ground... But that rains set to come back again! Seems to rain here even when it isn't forecast *sigh* it has been a really lovely visit to Ballarat though!
@@DiandSam Yep but then the rain and cold disappear in an instant and then you are constantly watering . Feast or famine in our region but the towns, the landscape, the environment is spectacular 😍🌿🍁🌻🏡
I brought my truck and converting to off grid camper, got it from NSW and roadworthy in VIC. I thought NSW was every 12 months roady and would be good. NO VIC roady 4k later lol
Ouch 4K is brutal yeh we were half expecting 10-20K worth of work and our trip being instantly over to make it happen. But very thankful it'll be much less! Man an off grid truck would be sick man!! Well done 👏
@@DiandSam Ok, that was with a full service and gearbox/rear diff oil but still, i'm still in car mode prices lol. Yeah it can get expensive but still cheaper than mortgage/rent a month. It's not the 4x4 version but will be fully self efficient and of course full of Victron goodies :)
Yes way cheaper than a house!! The best reason to do it, all the experiences and the positive impact of nature at your door step just the bonus hey 😉 We're under dianeandsamson on Facebook👍
Hahaha the drift was insane man! Yeh will definitely invest in all those things to make it easier in the future. For now just getting that build finished! 💪
Just come in from my morning chores on the farm. Brought a wheelbarrow of firewood down to the house from the woodshed. I need to make sure I have more going into next Winter - you can never have too much! That looked like a nice tree for firewood too (ie not white gum, lol). I bought some Wedges from Stihl years ago, often handy if the chainsaw gets stuck. That weather you were talking about - has arrived here! Take care, Susan. xx
Yes it's great that you are already thinking ahead, it's so easy to forget and then you're stuck with a few very cold nights and you realise very quickly you need more!! Oh yes it was a beauty, we couldn't even get to the trunk it was so large, the camera did not do it justice! Yeh the wedge seems like a great tool better than a pipe I guess hahaha 🤣 he did so well, that was the only one that got stuck!
@@DiandSam ok, its quite simple. You first make a leading cut or cut for placement of a wedge before actually making the cut. But hey its not rocket science anyone with a brain could tell you this. Have a wonderful day 👌
@@matsommer5039 Thanks for sharing the tip for the wedge, a tool I hadn't considered yet seems quite affordable and useful. Not many people we know seem to have these, you'd think chainsaw companies would encourage the sale of these with chainsaws.
@@DiandSam yes and I'm sorry for coming across snarky etc i do apologize. i just simply meant it was obvious that he was a little green when it comes to using chainsaws. I have seen to many accidents with them.
Cutting firewood is definitely a good workout. I would really recommend wearing hearing protection while operating and working near the chainsaw. It will make a difference in your life in years to come.
We often do, Sam wears in ear ones with music and I often have MV overears, however I was coming and going often while he was chainsawing so yes I definitely did not today 😊❤️ thank you for your concern
Yeh the intention was always to cut a hole into it, but I didn't have the skills or tools back then! It was great for storing dog food and then chicken equipment :)
Hi a.... So which region are you staying in.... Good try with the firewood.... Watching you guys work I had a load of red flags / safety issues going off in my head.... Have fun and be safe....
Hey Steve, we're normally on the south coast of NSW but currently travelling down in Ballarat :) Sorry we have you some heart palpitations haha know that safety is often a priority for us and we don't do anything we're not comfy with. Thanks for your concert, take care
What a lovely looking Bush block. I had the opportunity a number of years ago to purchase a property but found myself busy in the city and did lot do it. Geez am sorry I didn’t for the same reasons as you. Now much more expensive, but bought a Caravan instead which is great. I will one day buy a small block though .Cheers, Andy.
Yes Andy we both missed the boat, but I love that both of us have invested in a moving home that can be taken anywhere instead and one day have the dream to settle. In time it will come back around ❤️😊🌿 take care thank you for sharing
I love the smell of fresh cut wood and stacking it really feels satisfying. We're actually having proper winter here and I'm enjoying the nightly fire so much , it's such a beautiful thing to watch flames before bed and feel deeply warmed inside. I hope you're warm enough on the bus. Before you know it , you'll be bussing around everywhere. Thanks for sharing lovelies ❤❤
Couldn't agree more! The whole process is so connecting and warming. Being here makes us miss home so much, but also love that we have this opportunity to travel, even if we're going very few km each time. One day the bigger trip will come. Oh gosh winter in QLD, turns out no matter where we would've gone we'd be surrounded by frost haha! The bus has been very cosy, we've added a few things that together have kept so much warmth in! Thank you for sharing, you are so well spoken, I feel like you speak poems to my heart Naomi, such a great outlook ❤️❤️❤️
Hi Di and Sam getting back to what you love is a great thing and a nice way to say thanks. Great idea getting your belongings away out of the trailer. Smart idea with the handsaw Sam and the pole. Lot less effort. You done well. lol I found myself saying come on muscles when you were trying to hitch up the trailer. I would have helped if I could. 😜 main thing is you tried. I’m not sure who has the harder job here Di or Sam. I’m so proud of you both for all that you have achieved . I love your honest about the difficulties of it all as to many paint the romantic side to bus/van life. This is often the case as you know first hand. Poor tie. What did he do? Di that looks delicious. Good to see you looking out for yourself Sam. lol Sam he want some off course. I’m so feeling that fire. Chilling is a great idea. I love how you reminded everyone off mental health as to often over looked. Your still beings a teacher mate. Great video guys loved it.
Awww I love love love this, thank you for your kind words Rose. Mental health so often gets forgotten about amongst the hustle of life. It's been lovely to reconnect with it , ☺️❤️
Awww thank you 😊😊😊 thank you for being so positive and uplifting throughout the build were so excited to explore! But man oh man I miss my gardens and chickens, don't think it'll be too long before I have some soon!
@@DiandSam ❤️ my chookies are freeloading through winter as usual😆 but ..I just found a sneaky nest in an agapantha bush with one egg this afternoon! Fingers crossed they've decided to start contributing for their feed again 😆😆
Congratulations to you both on getting the modification plate. It would have been a great relief for you and now you can relax 'a bit', lol. What a proud moment it would have been when Sam attached the plate to the bus. Haven't had hash potatoes in ages - must rectify that! The new windscreen wipers will make a big difference to your visibility - couldn't believe how much difference it made when I changed the ones on my car! Safe travels. Susan xx
Hahahaha 'a bit' yes we definitely plan on it, its been a big task but we are grateful we kept going and appreciate your support throughout, now comes the fun of exploring and learning from others. Sam says I now have the best view, he's a bit jealous i didn't break the other window - though we wouldnt be here if i did haha! Take care lovely Susan, stay warm
Hi Di and Sam. Nice fine on the seats. lol come on you two no fighting over shoes. Three things was nothing. Well done on the engineers report guy. Always feel better after it. It looks like the kitchen is working really nice Di. You look so comfortable in it. Good work on the lemon hunt Sam. Excellent outcome for the length of the gas’s bottle. You won’t know yourself Sam with the new window and wipes. Another good one guys and so close to done. The dream is so close start.
Hahhaha the realities of working with a partner hey haha! Thank you, it was a huge weight off our shoulders! Thanks so much for being there the whole time, can you believe it! finally done.... well is it ever really done? take care gorgeous
@@DiandSam lol there will always be something to fix given your homes a rolling vehicle. But I can believe it as I’ve always know you two will get the job done.
Good work, congratulations. I love the way you’ve done. The interior of the Bus. Really looking forward to seeing more of your adventures. Cheers, Andy.
I don't think it can as they wouldn't be able to sell them for homes if that was the case. It'd be a call to the company if you're locked out to access
Hi ya Di and Sam , very good it’s cooler up here today, you must be starting to realise all your hard work has been well worth it, travelling here we come . Take care and stay safe cheers from Qld . 🚎♻️🌟🌟❤️
Hey Barry, hope you are doing well, I hear there is a heatwave sweeping Europe and we're facing the cool Antarctic winds! Oh yes, we have been doing plenty of driving in Ballarat! haha All the best
Congratulations with the engineer certificate I’m at nyah with 8 degrees when I woke up but now 15 degrees with the diesel heater on good luck when you go for the road worthy cheers Barry
I would advise anyone and everyone to grow a lavender patch, the smell and taste of lavender honey is divine! also plant some wild flower borders, you get long blooming periods of different flowers and they really do improve your resources, especially if you have them nearer to your colonies.
