This game is because of the expansion for Super Nintendo World coming later this year as its themed after this game. Basically it's Nintendo saying," Hey kids, you like the park? here it is in game form".

To be fair, I'm not sure I trust anyone but Retro Studios to make another DK game. Metroid Prime 4 was in demand before DK Tropical Freeze was, so it's possible Nintendo feels the same as me and is waiting for Retro Studios to finish up with Prime 4 before getting them to work an another DK game. It's probably for the best since the developers can work on one project at a time, not feel overwhelmed, and screw something up in the process. I just hope that Retro Studios heard from the fans and will fix what the complaints were including new animal buddies and better bonus rooms.

@TheProfessionalReject 14 часов назад
Yeah, it would be great if Retrostudios had started working on DKC Returns Three in like 2022 with a small amount of the team devoting time to it unlike Metroid and then right abt now they started to pick up the pace as Metroid Prime 4 development was nearing a close. After the release of MP4 and the ‘Switch 2’ we get this new game announced and at this point pretty much all efforts from Retro are going into it and by the end of 2026 we could see the game as a late Switch release maybe a Switch 2 release but I think it would do good to have all three games available on the same system(only if backwards compatibility is on Switch 2). This game could be so great! Take us back to King K. Rool. It would be cool if he had special theming but he would probably be his regular self! Maybe we head back to Crocodile Isle! I think 60-65 levels is good just like in Tropical Freeze! 6 worlds and then a lost world! Let’s call a direct 60 levels so it seems smaller than Tropical Freeze(63)but the levels would be significantly longer! I understand that Puzzle Pieces are a good reward since they don’t punish people who don’t seek them out so what if we got a big mechanic of before, they hid animal buddies in secret areas! This would motivate to find secrets because you could get an animal buddy who sure wouldn’t be needed for the KONG letters but they would for the other secrets and would just make the level more fun! I understand that this is Retrostudios games and not Rareware so I’m trying to be realistic with animal buddies! As much as I want a bunch I think just adding Enguarde to the roster is a safe call. You put the Rocket Barrel in 3 levels and the Mine Cart in 3 levels. Making up 10% of the levels but it’s important that due to the extension in levels they wouldn’t be the whole level but would rather cleverly be in specific moments. And one of the three levels for mine cart would be the jumping between mine carts not just the staying in one mine cart. Throw in 6 levels with Silhouette. It’s important to note that this wouldn’t always make up the whole level, with them doing things such as a day and night cycle! There are 4 levels with Rambi and 4 levels with enguarde. 2 of Rambi’s levels he is forced to progress but the other 2 he is a secret reward! 1 level engaurde is mandated and the other 3 enguarde is just a hard to find secret! Squawks would also be in it! You can buy Squawks in the shop and equip Squawks to follow you. Instead of just staying on the sidelines and calling out when near a puzzle piece Squawks would actually fly around on the map and if you find secrets and banana coins it excites Squawks and the more excited Squawks is the more helpful he will be and he will genuinely go over to the secrets and point at them and even collect the floating collectibles and stun enemies for you! Making Squawks have so much personality and feel to him! Additionally, there would be 4 levels where Squawks is hidden as a secret so you don’t have to buy him! Maybe they could bring back the flying Squawks from DKC2 and DKC3 but it would prove difficult as a parallel. Maybe in one level as a secret level Squawks holds a torchlight and guides the way! Also bring back the tag team mechanic! You play with each Kong individually but use L+R for them to interact! Use L+R with DK and a small Kong and they will hop on his back! This is useful because the small kongs cannot take out any of the big enemies in this game and it will medium out the kongs stats but has the downside of both dying when falling in a pit! Two small kongs with L+R and they put them on their shoulders to toss them! And they will actually be slowed whilst holding them! It would be very fun in multiplayer especially with throwing one another! And have nice incorporation of mechanics! Because of the kong team up situation you don’t have to always have DK and can have great combos! The whole first world is just Diddy and DK barrels! In world 2 they introduce Dixie and in world 3 they introduce Cranky! Funky is also playable but to unlock him you need to locate his hidden surfboard just like a secret exit in World 4! Funky can be paired with other kongs and he has great stats with the same health as DK but he doesn’t pair well with anyone! Having 3 hearts and being able to take out large enemies helps DK be just as viable as the small kongs! There are so many more ideas this is just the tip of it!

If DKC were to return with a new game, I'd rather have it be a grand event on the Switch successor anyway. Also, Nintendo was working on a 3D DK game with Vicarious Visions who mske the Crash Bandicoot remakes, but their parent company Activision shut down those plans.

I think internally they treat gamecube games as less worth as wii games. That's why metroid Was 40 Dollars and paper mario ttyd got a full remake and not just a normal remaster. But even then you have xenoblade chronicles which comes there with improve visuals, new models, new Soundtracks, qol changes and a Brand New Bonus Episode while Zelda ss and dkcr only get price increases

Good video, though I think ignoring the "gimmicks" of a console in ranking consoles is undercutting the console experience itself. If you just wanted to rank games, then you could rank how they perform on emulators and ignore any lag, bad controls, or other issues or benefits that may come from their console experience. For example: Mario Maker 2 is objectively better than Mario Maker 1; however the integration of Miiverse on the Wii U made sharing and finding levels in 1 a seamless process in the game that grew a community scene that in no way could be experienced on the Switch sequel. Additionally, the touch controls being accessible at all times, even when playing on TV, made building and testing levels more user friendly, creating the ideal way to engage with a Mario Maker game. On the flipside, and I hate to say this because it's one of my favorite consoles, the 3DS had many games whose frame rates would collapse when turning on the 3D, the primary gimmick of the console. This meant the gimmick could actively hinder the playing experience for games that weren't properly optimized around it. Then there's also controller issues. The N64 is great, but how many great games have funky control schemes because of the way the controller was designed? How many Wii games had issues once the gyroscope was added in Wii Motion Plus and required pausing games to recalibrate the gyroscope, sometimes multiple times in single play sessions? Or how many times have Switch players had issues because of joycon drift or the shitty d-pad on the pro controllers getting misinputs. There's also input lag issues, stuff like this. I'm not saying you need to critically analyze all of these things, but it feels weird when you say you're just ranking the games and downhit every handheld just for being a handheld, and grade them on just Pokemon because you didn't experience the vast majority of their libraries. Especially the third party exclusives, since handhelds traditionally would be mostly exclusive content since they couldn't play the same games as home consoles pre-Switch. You should check out some of the GBA collections on the Switch like the Megaman Battle Network and Castlevania collections. They were handheld games but many are held in high regard by fans of their respective franchises. Well worth experiencing and reconsidering how you grade those consoles games despite their handheld nature. Besides, most people will emulate those games these days anyhow, so if you're just grading the games, might as well be in the format most people will be playing them these days

Honestly, Switch is mad overrated. Aside from year 1, it didn't start making decent progress til 2022. Far too many games that were launched incomplete and abandoned after they didn't maintain high sales figures, like all the Mario sports games. Or how they abandoned the Mario Party games and left them out to die when fans were begging for more. Even a lot of their good decisions were hampered by bad decisions. And let's be real, Wii U and GameCube should get equal credit as their successors for their Zelda cross gen games. The GameCube, other than arrow aiming and wide-screen, was the definitive way of playing that game. Wii U may not have quite matched the Switch in resolution, but was otherwise almost equal in performance for BotW. You also can't deny that, early on, a very significant portion of the Switch's library was Wii U ports or remastered "enhanced" editions. I also think it's worth noting that ignoring control gimmicks is problematic with Nintendo consoles cause they directly affect your experience in how you experience their games. Or rather than gimmicks, just straight up the controls. Switch joycons have drift and pro controllers have Nintendo's least accurate d-pad ever. I started playing BotW on Wii U because of all of the misread inputs I got while playing and it's amazing how much time you save not accidentally going into the wrong d-pad menu in a few hours of gaming. It feels like not much of an issue when it happens on Switch, but the time adds up and it worsens the experience. Not to mention performance drops in good games. You can have the best game ever, but if it gets inconsistent frame rates and can't even maintain 30 or 20, and the controls have issues that cause input errors, then it doesn't matter cause the game won't play as well as "the best game ever" should. Switch and N64 lose points for me cause of this. And, I'm sad to say, so does the 3DS, just cause so many games struggle through the teens and 20s fps ranges, especially with 3D on, which was the core gimmick and unfortunately hindered more experiences than it boosted (though I will always use it)

You got to put Xenoblade Chronicles on that list of Wii games. It’s the best rpg on the system with arguably the best soundtrack after Mario Galaxy. In fact all Xenoblade games are fantastic. Xenoblade X defines the Wii U era for me. That game was massive.

i can say this, casually playing Mario Sunshine is a blast by that i mean only doing the shines required to get to Bowser, now 100 percenting Sunshine is an absolute nightmare because of everything else such as blue coins, 100 coin missions doing every mission, and on top of that doing the secret areas twice over, once without fludd and once with

I love this game and I'm definitely not as critical on it, but you forgot the worst bit about the lily pad level: You're screwed if you go down the pipe at the end. Most people will miss a red coin and then go into the pipe assuming that it will take them back to the start, but it takes you back to Delfino Plaza and you have to do the yoshi thing all over again, It's better to just die if you miss a coin. Good thing it isn't required at all to beat the game, and the game is so much more enjoyable not trying to 100% it. Going for 100% is only for the personal challenge and masochists.

Honestly think mario should have had less powerful dives and less sensitive controls and a long jump and sunshine would be better than 64 gimmicks aside imo. 64 has a lot of invisible collision problems some even done because of lazy programming. If comparing this and 64 Sunshine is easily more polished as a game. Also hot take but sunshine spinjumps>anything the galaxy games did with movement.

Sunshine is not an terrible game nor it ain't the worst Mario game. But it is one of the weaker or below tier mainline Mario games. It has some things going for. But there's many design flaws that keeps it from being of the best Mario titles.

Mario Sunshine is gimmicky, corny and at times quite frustrating, and I love everything about it. I even prefere it over 64, I'd take the Sunshine dive jump that keeps your upwards momentum over the Longjump any time, especially since the dive lets you slide pretty fast on wet floor. turning jumps into spinjumps mid air to chain from first to the third jump, spin wall jumping for longer reach, there's just so much you can do neccesary or not. The Blue coins while admittedly tedious are a great incentive to explore the worlds and personally the linearity of the games progression never bothered me, As I like how it tells a story, with the last chapters often being festivals to celebrate the areas being finally free of the pollution. I also find the "having to look up a guide" argument to be somewhat dishonest when at the same time praising Mario 64 as I remeber well having to look up a guide for "Blast Away the Wall" on my first playthrough. All in all: yeah Sunshine is flawed but over the years I've 100%ed it around 4 times and I just find it very over hated, tho I understand why people dislike it.

I totally understand the love and hate relationship with this game. I don't absolutely despise this game, but I remember getting very frustrated in a number of missions. I have beaten it 100%, which I highly doubt I will ever do again as it was pretty aggravating. This is pretty much one of my least favorite Mario games along with Lost Levels (Super Mario Bros 2) due to it just being a bit more frustrating and annoying than fun compared to many of the other Mario games. Also, those Blue Coins can just get so tedious to find!
