Hi, Cap. Best of luck on your recovery! I was wondering if your SM-2 Blk IIIC seek has the IR seeker, in addition to SARH and ARH. The IIIC and and IIIB both have dual mode IR/Radar seekers, the IIIC just adds the ARH.
Lead should have a heavy missile load. Wingman should try 4 guns (built-in + 3 gun pods) I say this because the missles are just so bad. Wondering if a spread of guns would be more effective.
The real question is why no kc 130 support, and if you had to land at the airfield anyway why not have a couple of planes instead escort some of Argentina’s c-130s to get some troops on the island to at least get control of the airbase.
i feel the UK was robbed by never having its Phantom's drop bombs in anger. question, is everything about the Phantom obsolete? I think some countries still fly them as trainer craft. the only thing i love about them is their shape. could a manufacturer make a new next generation aircraft which is the same sort of shape or do modern computers reveal its full of poor aerodynamic shapes?
Looking for throttle/stick combo recommendation-- I have been rocking TM Cougar HOTAS since 2003 (literally my first purchase on Amazon)... been loyal, kept it alive, but it has seen it's day in Jane's F-15, Jane's F/A-18, with and without TSH mods, and some DCS. Need to come current. I have been looking at VKB and Winwing... leaning Winwing, but not sure. Thoughts?
Do you guys have issues with Jester ejecting? If you're in low level toss bombing and you have ANY negative G's it will make Jester eject. He says "ah shit!" and he's gone! lol During the post brief screen I did notice I had damaged my stabilizer on takeoff so that may have something to do with it, and the negative G, or something else I been doing wrong. Or maybe I hit a combination of binds that made him go. It happened twice out of 5 runs. Just practicing on a range. Kind of funny really.
Cap, love the channel. If you’re looking for more content maybe look into reading some of the tipping point books? It’s very Chinese /USA centric scenario with multiple set ups that could possibly happen in real life. Thought of you guys as I was reading the books. Some examples: two Arleigh Burke’s doing a fonop near the South China Sea and getting accidentally fired upon by shore based missile’s, type 55 Chinese destroyers trying to protect a fleet of transports from air strikes (land based aircraft and shore based missile launches ) while they cross the channel. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Cap, been waiting for another big battle for what feels like months. I'm not going to lie I've been skipping a lot of your content lately as I really like the more real world big battle scenarios. but I know those are much harder for you guys to make them. Is it me or did something seem up with the airplane AI on both sides they seemed much dumber than usual or is that because this is single player and usually you mix in a few humans on both sides.
I feel like you handicapped the Chinese ships by giving them land attack missiles while the Americans only carried anti-ship missiles. If the Chinese knew they were going to be fighting a US carrier group, it seems likely that they'd carry exclusively anti-ship missiles. Also, China is planning to build 16 Type 055 destroyers in total with 8 already in service, whereas the US is planning to build 20 Arleigh Burke flight III ships with only 1 already in service, so it seems unfair to give the Americans 6 Arleigh Burke flight III ships while the Chinese only have 2 type 055s.
A little tip, make sure to come in closer and at a steeper angle, this’ll help with accuracy, as well as preventing any intake as seen with the debris, this will also help so you don’t accidentally fly over enemy AAA, AA, or any other enemies that can shoot you down.
Sadly the current AI makes using rear-aspect missiles absurdly tough. Perfect SA and UFO-level flight models results in constant 5-8G turns and climbing while losing little to no energy. Kudos for giving it a go with the period-correct missiles.
I know it was mentioned that Ofira Air Base (it is literally Sharm El Sheikh International Airport) isn't modeled, but Saint Cathrine international Airport is? This is somewhat disturbing, as it is very sporadically used.
I think the IRL version of this battle went way better for the IAF! But I digress -I can't blame you guys, you just don't have growling sidewinder merged skills, Also DCS AI needs alot of work as most of the time it's cheating.
I have an idea for the channel. Have everyone split into 2 or 3 groups and then each group has a navy and they can move around and have a simulated war. No one knows for sure where the other fleets are (assuming satellites were taken out) and have to resupply periodically. See who comes out on top?
Soooo, you took the Phantom into the merge co-altitude, against an OP, superior turn fighter, and fought a flat turn fight and got your cheeks clapped by lighter, nimbler, Migs? No altitude advantage? No vertical stern conversion? No drag? No pincer. Little mutual support. (I mean Cap had THREE Migs on his 6!). You were all clustered in a ball at the merge. And the baddies still bombed your base.
It seems like maybe you didn’t have lock on a few of your sparrow shots. They were close enough that there should have been the “range ring” indication running outside the pipper. Maybe no acquisition? Dunno. I have decent luck with aim-9f. Aim-9e is about a 25%-30% deal. Which seems right
From a 1967 USAF report on aerial combat tactics against the MiG-21: "Do not try to turn with a MiG-21. Also, avoid climbing turns, level flight accelerations, scissors, or yo-yo maneuvers both in defensive and offensive maneuvering. . . . Use the 'hit and run' tactic."
