Geneva Instrument Design, Manufacture and Distribute Premium Professional Handmade Brass Musical Instruments played by many of the Worlds finest brass musicians
My trumpet has been lying fallow for almost twenty years. Have discovered a lot of 'horn music' on YT and restarted with embouchure as a beginner, but lust.
Not just the finest Cornet player of my generation but without doubt, of all time. I Had the great pleasure of playing alongside Phil for 6 years. When I first heard him play, he had the oldest, strangest A-flat/B-flat Interchange cornet I had ever seen. At that time, he was with Fairey and got the Chair with the National Youth Brass Band on his 2nd course (He was just 13 amazingly!) Sadly, I lost touch with him in the early 70's when my own band career was ended by a car crash! As friendly as we were back then, I've never had the opportunity (due to my work) to do a 'catch-up' with him. Sad but, proud to have heard the man who revolutionised the art of playing the B-flat Cornet, beyond any standard, ever set, at any time in history!
The essence of pure cornet sound, in my humble opinion: clear, bright, perfectly pitched, beautiful phrasing. Wonderful playing by a true artist. (Great accompaniment by the pianist as well.)
Your rhythm is not only accurate, it flows. It carries the pulse of the music at its heart. And with that, I hear a freedom of expression, shading, phrases that speak. Brava.
