I've had a problem where I was sampling. Real instruments, which were violins... And I wanted to create a stereo effect so I. Panned some all the way to the left and some all the way to the right. I did this for several different instruments to create kind of an orchestra. Feel to a hip-hop song. And I did have some problems with memory during playback.
That is a lot of great new stuff! And yes, that MIDI mute issue makes no sense at all to me either. I hope there will be an option for the two diffirent ways - or maybe listen to beta testers and roll back that change. I wonder which musical application it would make sense for?
Im so used to seeing synths crowded with so many knobs mini desk synths and modular stuff I was a bit shocked to see how LARGE the Taiga was. Great demos and review.
The thing I love about the Digitakt the most is the sequencing. It really reminds me of FXpansion's GURU and Geist plugins, which considering I used to work for FXpansion I have real love for. The MPC is very cool and I've used it quite a few times but don't own one. I can definitely see how you'd centre a production workflow around one. But as a standalone drum machine and sampler mangler, it isn't really intuitive or improvisational enough for me to drop the coin to have one permanently in my studio. I'm considering upgrading my Digitakt v1 to the v2, maybe even have both side-by-side. I'm also considering Ableton Push3 standalone, but that seems like it must do quite a lot less than eitther of these two units. My favourite thing to do with the Digitakt is create polymetric drum patterns by setting each sound slot to a specific number of steps, but then setting the M.LENGTH parameter to a random number, so that all 8 slots re-sync after the duration of the M.LENGTH passes. It sounds confusing, but once you get your head around it, it really kills. My least favourite thing is that the slots do NOT send midi when they're setup to play samples. It would be so easy for Elektron to have the samplers also send out midi notes when they're triggered. This would enable a lot of layering and production techniques, without having to use dedicated midi tracks on the unit. I would love to have that so I could sync my Resoluum visuals with the patterns on the Digitakt for instance.
Thanks for sharing! Very informative as usual. Definitely two very different approaches. I only use MPC desktop with a Studio Mkii. But might have to look into a digitakt, wish it was battery powered though. Have you tried the Seqtrak from Yamaha?
Can you please relay to AKAI that we’d like to have the choice to merge or unmerge tracks and programs in the preferences? To me it’s as big of a deal as the track mute situation. We’re talking about a staple feature of the MPC workflow that has been there since day one. No one should treat their day ones like that!
We got to embrace change , it’s important to grow , and in a few months everyone will just get used to the new mpc3 , a real producer will work with anything
I am looking to record 8 simultaneous audio tracks at a time using just some compression plug ins and reverb plug in on the aux send And then just mixing that 8 audio tracks with maybe a couple more audio overdub tracks Do you think the 8gb base model is enough to handle recording 8 simultaneous audio tracks ?
keygroups with streaming and 8 layers sounds great. Would be nice to have a few more options to manage layers, like articulation switches independent from velocity.
Thanks for your videos. When you assign multiple controls to one macro, are you able to record that macro adjustment into the sequencer automation? Cheers.
@teftymusictech - you list the gear you use ("Gear we use") - and have made videos advocating a few times for the MiniFreak to be the go-to synth for beginners and advanced artists alike (noting that it is a synth that keeps on giving/people can grow with). However, you do not list it in the "Gear we use" section. Have you since reconsidered your recommendation for the MiniFreak as the go-to for beginners? I recognize the impulse to stick with that message even now - though I have grown to trust your perspective. If you have changed your mind and now feel the ASM Hydrasynth (/Explorer) has supplanted MiniFreak as the go-to for beginners and advanced alike, it would be great to get your dusted-off take on that.
Probably would have got this if it was available at the time I bought my MPC One. As it stands I just pair the One with a Keystep 37 and call it a night
So i have a late 2013 i5 32gb 1tb, and it runs fantastic as a studio computer, its starting to skow a little, but no latency at all with audio or midi input, but i have ableton 11, wont let me update logic, but ua spark, serum, fabfilter. Itll have 20 tracks, automation, tons of windows open, and no slowness of unacceptable level. But i know my days are numbered, the 8gb just doesnt seem good, even though im hearing you say it im super hesitant idk why. Im thinking of getting a mini pc with way higher specs, switching to ableton only, but i do love my mac os
I just got to the part with tabs open, clicks and such, which confuses me any more, im super add, ill have three chrome accounts with ten tabs each, while logic running, with the imovie i left open to, and no problem, idk mang it makes me wonder if they scaled back somewhere ten years ago
Good video, but I was always confused on what Keygroups were????? and why do you need multiple sequences?? when you could have one, with multiple tracks that builds the song anyway? I know Programs have been renamed to Tracks, which should of been from the beginning AKAI!!! I have the AKAI Force and the GUI is much easier for my noodle to understand.
Such a nice idea and well executed. I suppose you can also do a lot of other nice randomiser functions like change start time and so on... but in this instance you were keen on that specific attack and it made for some nice results.. Really looking forward to getting this update and trying similar things with my Matriarch and Pro3. It's like getting a new MPC really...
Finally! A usable level of velocity layers. Now we can get some more realistic acoustic instruments....which sorta asks the question, "Why use a synth to showcase velocity layers?". Velocity layers shine on percussion instruments like a piano (piano is a percussion instrument) and acoustic drums. Thanks for the video!
Wait, no more Clip Launch ? That's a big problemo. I was building a whole live set with it.. It wasn't the best feature of the device, but any idea why drop something that's functionning ? That aside, the update is great.. kinda makes me not wanna update. There might be a new approach or a work around workflow
Love the video. Not sure I see any value in a $1400 Analog Duophonic SYNTH. Why??? Money to blow. LOL. I'm holding my breath for the Force update! Why I bought a Force in 2024, no idea. Stink'n G.A.S. Had to have one over the stupid 8 OLED knobs. There is sits on my desk unused like it's cousin the Key61 new in a box in storage. Talk about money to waste. I'm in the same club.
Sounds like you have some stuff to unpack yourself. You bought both a Force and Key 61 for even more money and not using them. Maybe you should take your own advice first before casually handing it out to others.
@@matthewgaines10 I think you can't read. " Talk about money to waste. I'm in the same club." If his reason is GAS, more power to him. We all are guilty I'm sure of owning gear we didn't really need, but thought we had to have. LOL I have lots to unpack mentally, LOL. Spot on.
Great video. Really looking forward to this update. Was hoping they'd implemented crossfade looping within the Program Editor (or whatever it's called now), but it doesn't look like it from what I can see. Has the list of LFO destinations improved? It would be great to modulate sample start point, for example...
the big missing item for ever on that sampler, is cross layers velocity mixing, so it doesn't switch abruptly between layers, which can be really apparent on stuff like rhodes...
Slight define between layers introduces flanging / comb filtering when hitting that 50% crossfire point. Have to tune stuff precisely , but even then it might sound off. I'd rather have 4 velocities with 2 round Robin's with 8 velocities tho. Altho it might work better with drums. For piano 4 layers is enough. It's the repetition that makes I unrealistic.
Thanks for sharing all your findings with the new MPC 3, really appreciate it! One thing I would really like to know about the compatibility with external audio interface. Does it work with Focusrite or Behringer audio interfaces?
