Thanks for watching! I forgot to mention it in the video, but Pittsburgh had no involvement in this video. This video is not sponsored. I had reached out to Pittsburgh Modular support after I noticed issues with my first units tuning. So my experience with them is purely as a customer and not a RU-vidr.
Hey, thanks a bunch for taking a look! I'm Luna Moth, Firmware person at PGH I just this week finished a software update for this that addresses the known bugs and once it's been tested and verified we'll push it out :) That can take a few weeks, just because we're a small team of 5 and we're working on some big overwhelming projects and also in the middle of our biggest release to date, but it should be soon. I'm glad you're getting along well with the keyboard
Hey Luna! I'm very much looking forward to that firmware update 🙌 And yeah, totally understand. I'm also very excited to see the VL2 in person 👀 Looks to be a hit in the modular world. I appreciate you taking the time to watch. Have a great day!
@LunaMoth412 On the East Beast and West Pest sometimes when switching to internal clock the speed of the clock will be much faster than what you can set with the tap tempo. Any idea what causes this? It would be great to have access to this super fast internal clock somehow without having to switch modes and pray it bugs out.
Firmware 1.2 sorts the midi octave problem! My Taiga keys is the second one - 1st one went back after all sorts of weird stuff happening. I had the desktop for a year trouble free and sold it to get the keyboard version. I love it and this one I have now is perfect. Looking for suggestions to fill that eurorack in it now!
I'm relieved that you had a couple of bum units, but that's because I had 2, and for each one I could not get the filters to open up. At all. Some very faint "thumps" was all I could get out of them. I was so disheartened, and I honestly thought I had somehow forgotten *everything* about basic synthesis. I recently got a Matriarch, and I was really nervous when I fired it up. No problems. I'm back to only being as 90% as dumb as I look. 😂
Yeah I think they might've had some manufacturing problems with this first batch. I really like the synth so I don't want to see them struggle from this, but I hope nobody else gets soured from the issues. And yeah, Matriarch is NICE!
Very different synths. The Taiga is a modular workhorse living in a keyboard body. The Mantis is a really well thought out synth 'knife' that's been balanced for it's task. If I had to choose one or the other, my choice would change depending on the day 😆
It can do FM but I didn't apply any FM in this video. All of it was the shape knobs doing the wave folding. A digital FM synth will sound a lot 'cleaner' in the signal path. The Taiga has some inherent noise 'finger prints' in the signal.
