This channel is my journey back to art, and some of it is about well-being. I used to be quite the skilled artist when I was younger, and this coloring journey has been such a wonderful experience, especially getting the chance to meet other colorists in the adult coloring community.
Aside from my love for coloring, I'm also a big fan of video games, audiobooks, hanging with my pets and family, and I have a lovely 500 square foot garden that I hope to spend more time this spring. Also, in 2024, I'd like to re-learn how to draw and re-learn how to use acrylics and watercolors.
Typically 2 to 3 years is what I've heard from other people that color. I like to touch a lot of coloring books instead of only one so I think it will take a while to complete one book. :)
Thanks for dropping by. What books are you planning to try watercolors in? I have some I want to do next month. But I may print out on watercolor paper.
Amazing, the price differences of different countries. These that you mentioned is some of the most expensive pencils in South Africa. You did not even got one of our least expensive (affordable but good) pencils. For instance Prismacolor is almost double the price of Polychromos in SA. Then what about Derwent, Black Widow and Colleens. Those are our better priced pencils.
Hi Connie! Thanks for sharing those tips. Derwent and Polychromos get more pricey in the states so I didn't include them . I have some friends that live in South Africa but most of them are gamers so they never shared coloring supply costs that way. I have the two sets of black widow skin color pencils and I am still learning how to use them so they didnt make it on the list. Good to know those are cheaper that way. For some reason my friends refer SA as ZA. :)
@@JodyMoments the only disadvantage is that they don’t really have a good full spectrum set. They have two pastel shade ones, and one mix of skin tones + other basic tones. There is a weird one that is double-ended, but I have not seen them come out with a full 100 set.
Thanks for the tip. Yes, sorry about the speed There is a neat setting in RU-vid to slow down any video in the settings. I do that for flip through videos
I would pick the Arrtx based on the multiple types of paper they do well with, but softer and I like the super light and super dark color range. They layer well as well for art.
Good question, I never thought to check, but I think it's is nicely stitched with white thread. I recorded a short for you to let me know for sure! ru-vid.comsRAaQoKSCyk
Hi Grahame. They are different enough to include as part of a coloring pencil collection. I am curious about some of the new colors in the 150 set, but I'll hold off for now. :)
Hi Denise, I have a little playlist with me using the color cubes here: ru-vid.com/group/PL_f-nR9rmWJEaPCLKE7P42aVbgBG0fHvw But I think this video in particular shares some of the ways I use the physical ones as I dont have the digital catalog: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-VCfcoFeYIYQ.html I do have plans to create a video about all of the ways I find and decide on color palettes in the near future, thanks to a lot of the comments shared by you and others.
Hello. Thanks you for the informations. I found it here Brasil on promotion for 25 dolares. I'm going to buy. I want to try Prismacolor, but to by only aliexpress.
I just got this set, too! I wanted to try them out b/c I've seen all over the coloring community that they came out with the 150 set. It's really expensive, so I thought I would try the smaller set first. Thanks for sharing this! ☺
Nice yes, coloring pencils are expensive when they have a lot of pigment, I agree. I am often hunting for used sets but wasn't able to find one for these. I adore them on nice paper and put the 150 on my Christmas wishlist.
Lovely video for newbies hun.. I have all of them but the item u use to keep the stencils from moving that’s a great idea.. I’m fortunate to have the full set of neo colours 2 they are just beautiful.. ❤❤❤😊😊😊xxx
Thankyou for making this video. I. Oughtthe online version and I admit I hardly use it . I love the fact there are other colors on the back of each card! Didn't know that! I was debating printing it all out. but in the long run it would probably cost me just as much if i wanted to print them out with good ink and paper. Not to mention they would probably fade over time and handling them printed out would end up a country mess over time! Lol I Def am going to get the cubes now! Again thanks bunches! Im newbie to adult coloring so I need all the inspiration I can get!
I did the same thing. Thought about my little old printer doing the printouts and how the colors wouldnt be the same. I do like the different colors on the back that are similar too. I sometimes grab 2 or 3 of those additional family colors for a palette for shading and highlights. But so far I have enjoyed using them. My main problem is I like specific colors.. so if there isnt a purple or bluish purple for instance .. I add that... It is my one true weakness. Lol
As an organized graphic designer, quilter and artist, I totally appreciate your tips. I still use physical paper color swatches as I find them incredibly useful so I just ordered my cube combo. I can’t wait to use them in my quilting projects, procreate digital art and paint selections. Thank you 😊
Hi Sue, I enjoyed volume 2 more, it had some steampunk/neon colors/wildlife, and sky scenes, that I enjoy using as reference cards to color (not just for color palettes).
No, it doesnt share how to mix the colors and pair two color palette cards, but that would be neat if it did. I do know that some of these color palettes in the set are created based on color theory. If you do a search color theory you'll find there's a lot of knowledge out there that can help you on selecting colors that go well together. But, what I like to select colors based on 1) my favorite colors *teals/magenta/purple and a dark yellow, then I consider the colors I need (wood colors browns or stone greys, or leaves and trees I select greens and yellows, and then I figure out the cards based on that. Not sure if that helps, but that's how I do it. :D
I pre-ordered this one, and it surpassed my expectations as I'm an avid audiobook listener, this book reminded me of some of the books I've listened to over the years. I think this is my first Dover coloring book, so I dnot know if they publish any coloring books with thicker paper.
Thanks for doing this. I have had both boxes for over a year but just grabbing a card at random has really not worked for me. So I have hardly used them. I may try this.
Yes, I was worried that would happen for me too. Since it is an investment to purchase these cubes, I think removing color cards you know you wont use, then sorting by categories, or things you want to learn is a great way to always use these for every project. Another great way too is planning ahead. Select the coloring pages you want to color for the month and consider the color pallets for the entire month along with selecting the different coloring pencils (if you have a couple of coloring pencil sets you like that works great. But that keeps it easy for me to grab the book/materials and color without having to figure out the color pallets one at a time. Shared how I do this here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HGvFA554tDM.html
Thanks for showing your process of categorizing and organizing. That was my big question. Picking at random is only minimally useful for me, and having to flip thru 500 cards every time I wanted color ideas would be a nightmare. 😊. Thanks for showing every card too.
Agreed! I am sure there is a clever way to ameka spreadsheet but that seemed like a lot of work too. :) Taking out cards with same color family like tons of red on a card or tons of greens on a card didn't make sense to me so those were taken out along with color pallets that I wasn't attracted to.
I will have to check my book collection. I think it is rare to find books with thicker paper, but if I was on a hunt for ones dedicated to floral/botanical, I would go to each of my favorite books and grab the names of the publishers. Find each publisher website and search for coloring books. Hardback books often have thicker paper and I would look for the flip throughs of each one. There is also a way to search for paper weight too by the number of pages versus the weight of the book. I love coloring flowers so I will also share others here as I find them. One book I didn't show was Flowerscape Tropical because I don't own it. Not as thick as Marie Trolle paper but close.
The way I like to do it is, the colors I know I need on the coloring page and some colors I also know I can mix to make them then I also consider my favorite colors. For instance, if I see people on a coloring page I will grab peach, pink, cream and browns for their skin and shadows. If I see trees or foliage I know I want some greens and browns but I like more teal or emerald greens so I select those colors in cards or if I don't those colors I layer a dark blue with my green colors to make them If I see a page that has flowers, I will select my favorite warm colors like dark golden yellow, coral, magenta and purples or deep dark reds. But basically it is a mix of both basic colors I will need then I mix that with my favorite colors. So if you want to try this out think of your fav colors and then basic colors you need. Hope that helps a bit. I am relearning color theory but if you check around there are color wheels available online to refer and those colors do define the way we humans are attracted to colors too.
Hi Jody!! New subbie here!👋I just found your channel and loving some of your videos! Yes, doing art is definitely a practice in mindfulness and being present. I call it my Zen time and I get addicted to it. When I color mandalas, especially, I can almost reach a kind of meditative state. Maybe that sounds weird, but it works for me! This video is awesome! I love the edited narration and how you've shared information about you and your coloring journey here! TFS! 🤗💖
Without realizing it, I think this video was me trying to understand why I want to color so much and to explain why to others because not a lot of people get it, including my family and friends. Since this video I think I get the zendoodle/mandala now, and this has been an incredible journey. Being able to meet others, I also don't feel alone for loving this hobby. I will have my 6 month anniversary on March 31, and it has I had so many benefits in my life. Nice to meet you!
This is the ONLY video I’ve seen on the Color Cube that shows every card. I’m sure I’m not the only one who wanted to see that. So I thank you. It is an important thing to do on camera for viewers. God bless.
Love using them with so many projects! Hoping she brings out even more color cubes for more celestial scenes, like moonlight, and other types of texture cube ideas.
I select 2 cards based on my favorite colors, but sometimes I know a page will need some neutral colors for nature scenes, portrait skin tones and whatnot so white grey, black, browns, creams, yellows, and coral tones help with the neutral side. But I know there must be a science around it by using a color wheel. Great question it makes me want to be more mindful about why I am selecting certain colors together. If I can find enough research about my methods I'll be sure to make a video about it. :)

I hope it can help, there's 2 other videos I made about the color cubes yesterday, one shows all of the categories you can consider, and the other shares more tips, if you havent seen those yet.
