Before it was SCN (Southern Command Network) it was CFN (Caribbean Forces Network). If anyone remembers CFN you are truly an old Zonian. TV would come on at 5PM with kids shows and go off at around 11:30.

Sorry Pacific siders, the Atlantic side w 3:28 as way better. Gatun Yacht Club, fishing in the Chagres River, Piña Beach, Portobelo, Devils Beach, Fort San Lorenzo, and more. All the uptight bosses worked in Balboa. They left the Gold Coast folks alone.

I went to St Mary's Mission School. The poor nuns wore the most uncomfortable habits, their hats were cone shape and one foot high. They were heavily starched too, God love them.

Born in Colon, Dec. 01, 1956 and raised there, married etc. Cried, miss it except the bugs, heat, snakes, miss food, water, etc. I pray to go back before I leave this earth with my son's and family. Had prayed to take Mom before she passed. She's been gone 2 yrs Feb. 16, 2023 next month. My Mom was a singer in Colon, Panama. Met mom while she was singing in Colon, El Carribe. Dad's Navy ship was docked in Coco Solo. He got out of Navy got job at Gatun, locks at Locomotive Operator. My ex Robert Boucher met at Howard Air Force Base at a movie there w/a friend 1972. Married at Balboa Union Church in 1974 ex went into Army lived in Panama City. First time left 5 mos. pregnant w/1st. Left was stationed in Ft. Stewart, Ga. Then went back pregnant w/2nd son. Lived in Dad's house in Chorrera till moved to FT. Kobbe housing. We left in 1981 from being stationed at Ft. Clayton. Move to Des Moines, Ia. We got divorced in while stationed in El Paso. I have ton's of slides from Dad like 12 carasels. There was someone years ago in Fl. who offered to help develop them can't remember his name. If you see this get with me. Lots of the canal where Dad worked at all 3 locks over the years! He had to retire due to 1st heart attack. Sure we could all write a book on life there and growing up! Have one friends book still need to finish on her life there with parents. Her book: Canal Zone Brats Forever! Written by: Kathleen Cox Richardson buy on Amazon? Don't know how to share or check msg's on here. Can find me on FB. Blessings! Enjoying reading comments.

Great to see this! I was at Ft. Clayton in 72-73 and watched ships transit the canal many nights while on guard duty, dreaming about their exotic ports of call. Years later I became a merchant mariner and for 30 years sailed the world, transiting the Panama Canal quite a few times. Panama holds great memories...especially la Gruta Azul...

My grandfather went to Panama to help build the canal. My mother’s was born there in 1913. I was born there in 1942 and lived in the Canal Zone until 1975. I have never been back, the home I knew is gone but Panama has a special place in my heart. This video brought back precious memories thank you.

You will one day stand before God and answer for everything you have done. How will you do on that day? Here's a quick test: How many lies have you told in your life? Have you ever stolen anything? Have you used God's name in vain? Have you ever looked at someone with lust? Have you had sex outside of marriage? Have you ever had, or been involved in, an abortion? Will you be guilty on Judgment Day? If you have done these things, God sees you as a lying, thieving, fornicating, blasphemer, adulterer at heart, and murderer, and the Bible warns that God will punish you in a terrible place called the lake of fire: Revelation 21:8, AV: "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." Yet God, who is "...rich in mercy,..." sent His Son the Lord Jesus Christ to suffer and die on the cross for all guilty sinners. We broke God's Law and the Lord Jesus Christ paid our fine. That means God can legally dismiss our case and He can commute our death sentence. John 3:16, AV: "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life." Then the Lord Jesus Christ rose from the dead and defeated death. Please, repent and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior, and God will give you eternal life as a free gift: Ephesians 2:8-9, AV: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."

Our family was in Albrook AFB '70-'74. It was the best time IMO to be a kid in Panama and I spent a lot of time building forts in the nearby jungle down the hill past the GA building (even forgot some of my Dad's tools now and then...). Diablo Elementary was my school and I can still picture it pretty well (Mr. Andrews for 2nd grade and Mr. Moffett for 5th grade). One of the special things about it was growing up in a multi-cultural environment, between all of the military kids and then the Panamanians and locals out in the countryside. We didn't think about anyone's background or culture, just enjoyed each other's company and having fun together. There has always been a question I haven't been able to resolve - the local Panamanian broadcast TV had a closing song at the end of the day (remember when TV actually closed out each day?) - it was a polka and I can still hear it in my head when I think about it. I've never been able to find the name of the song to hear it again and while youtube has some uploads for TV from back then, that music was never captured or identified. Maybe someone knows the polka that played back then, every night at closing...

Talked to my brother last night. Exactly 60 years ago 17 Febrero 1961 he met the lady in Panama who he married 58 years ago. He still has an apartment in Punta Puntilla. I lived at Fort Clayton 70-74. Panama has sold out to China and is not nearly as nice as it was. Water priority is the canal and NOT the people. Poor resource management.

I am Panamanian and all of Panama misses you guys and I speak for the popular people. Because with you the money goes directly to the people, I live in Chiriqui near the border with Costa Rica and everything is produced here and everything was sold in the Zone Canal, gardeners, housemaids, cooks , but now only politicians take money for their pockets. Before leaving Panama, 95% of workers were Panamanians. I always wish that people from the area of the Canal would have given us the opportunity to study in their schools, perform military service and train at their facilities and Panama would never have let them go. For me 1,999 it was a very sad day and 90% of Panamanians feel this way and very much space farmers in my province.

Albrook A.F.B. 1958-1959. La Boca, my school, younger sister born at Gorgas Army Hospital. Camped in the jungle for the fun of it, went everywhere in the interior! Rode on the train from Panama to Colon on the Atlantic side, went to Fort San Lorenzo and dodged vine snakes in the trees. Many good memories of the beaches at Fort Kobbe.
