I like project update videos! They offer possibilities for finding inspiration, learning something from the crafter's thought process, or simply getting to see delightful things. Like your feegle, I love him! (The Wee Free Men is one of my favorite audiobooks 😁) I'm on a similar sock journey, sort of. Years ago, I switched from wearing commercial machine-knit socks, with hand-knit socks from my mum added on top only for cold weather/boot situations, to wearing mostly the mum-made socks. However, my mum doesn't really pay attention to fibre content (or gauge sometimes). I appreciate the socks she made, but now I'm slowly adding in socks made by me after my own liking. Still wearing my other socks, mostly at home/when I'm not wearing shoes. And the hand-knit socks do get darned until their not salvageable anymore I'm also all too familiar with the problem of returning back to the crafting space after a while and fighting with the accumulated ideas that all desperately want to become reality now that it's finally possible again 😅 Hoping the ongoing doctors appointments are over soon!

I'm a licensed cosmetologist, so let me tell you that it honestly doesn't matter how you roll your wet set. There really isn't a right or wrong way to do it. Sure, in school, we learn common wrap patterns, but there are many different ways to wrap hair, that it's just preference. So don't worry about people who know what they're doing criticizing your wrap pattern. I mean, I can wrap other people's hair, but I can't wrap my own, so you're doing better than me.
@stanceymackenzie
@stanceymackenzie 3 дня назад
Thats very interesting to know thank you. I did find it funny how some people told me how I should do it despite not having my hair. I did use the wrong size curlers on this video as I had forgotten that my hair had grown a bit and suited the next size up although I do love the small tight curls for regency and 1930s hair.
@MadameFonz
@MadameFonz 3 дня назад
@@stanceymackenzie I thought your hair was very cute. Wrap patterns are pretty versatile because it ultimately depends on the wave pattern you are trying to achieve, but of course there are a couple basic rules for rod size. It definitely gets trickier to use smaller rods on longer hair, but it's doable, as you probably picked up on. On the other side, when choosing a rod for short hair, the hair has to be able to wrap around the rod at least 2.5 times. Ultimately, you know what rods work best for your hair and intended style and will adjust accordingly, so you're doing fine.

So happy to have stumbled upon you here, as I think it must've been around 20 years since I've seen you (Kentwell in the 90's.. last year I participated was 2002? Maybe 2003?). Anyway, wonderful. Elected to knit whilst watching, on work lunch break, today a Bronte Sisters shawl (for me!), although a basket of unfinished projects are at home, a 1940's jumper from A Stitch In Time Vol 1, also for me, for work, some mittens with hares on, a cardigan for my daughter, stuck on sleeve island.. and current priorities, two tiny jumpers for friends with new babies. Sewing workbench, a 1939 day dress (again, for me, for work), and a vaguely Beetlejuice themed quilt for teenage child. But the days are getting longer, quicker than ever in the NW of Scotland, so they'll all be finished soon enough. Lovely to chance upon you!

And packed in & around are some corduroy skirts & other goodies, like older silk shirts that I couldn’t say no to… very 90s button up, sadly nothing like an elegant wrap tie neckline…. so needless to say, I am feeling a bit like a tinker & her wares & will be trundling all that bundled on top of my rolling suitcase …. and dreaming of a small case with a wool suit & various tops 😂🥰 …. but as Eliza says… wouldn’t that be loverly!? 🥰😁 So happy to see you here and wishing you The Best with work & your very not-boring knitting! You're never boring. I'm so glad you posted another vlog. I LOVE the colors of your new Dr. Who scarf. The color-work socks are AMAZING. You and Retro Claude make such wonderful socks. One of these days, I'm going to try to make a pair for myself. I hope you're able to rush through the socks for others so you can get to knitting those for yourself. I look forward to seeing what you're making out of the disco Darth Vader fabric. Watching you crochet, I'd say you were doing what we Americans call a single crochet. But, if you're working it into a magic loop, you may need to watch a video for making a chain, which is the foundation of most crochet projects. As with knitting, you'll want your chain to have pretty equally sized stitches. It takes a bit of practice to get a comfortable tension and equally sized stitches. But, you can practice making chains with whatever yarn you have: make a chain, rip it out, start again. I always find the chain and the first row of any crochet project the most challenging and I've had to rip and start again too many times to count. If you're looking for a simple, small, easily portable, useful and giftable project, I suggest making dishcloths from 100% cotton yarn such as Sugar 'n' Cream (or Michaels Arts & Craft's Loops and Thread version of it). Start with one skein of a solid color and a size H/8 (5 mm) or I/9 (5.5 mm) hook, whichever hook feels most comfortable in your hand. Somewhat loosely, make a chain of 40 stitches across. For first row, skip first chain from hook, and work a single crochet into the second chain and into each chain stitch across (39 single crochet--stitches), chain 1, and turn. Begin the next row by working a single crochet into the first single crochet and one single crochet in each single crochet across (39 stitches), ch. 1, turn, and repeat this row until you have a square. On your last stitch, cut your yarn, leaving a tail that can easily be woven, and pull it through the last stitch. Weave in your two (start and finish) tails. This should make about an 8-inch square dishcloth. Because these expand when wet, I find this size most comfortable in my hand while washing dishes. My sister, on the other hand, likes hers to be quite large, more like 10-12 inches square when wet. Whatever size you prefer, I find it's easiest to keep track of the rows worked if you end up with an odd number of stitches per row that isn't 5. I use a pen and paper to track by writing: "dishcloth 1, H hook, ch 40 for 39 stitches, rows: IIII..." Unfortunately, I can't show the cross-slash to indicate that I've theoretically worked five rows thus far, so, theoretically, I've only worked four. With the number of stitches suggested, you should get at least three dishclothes from one solid-color skein, whereas you'll only get 2-1/2 dishcloths from one variegated skein. I don't know why the Sugar 'n' Cream blurb I saw said "handwash only." I've made these for years from that yarn (and the Michael's brand) and have machine washed and dried them without issue. Three to five of these folded up and tied with a ribbon make a great gift. Once you've mastered this stitch, you can go on to another, although, some or not as suitable for dishcloths. I can't wait to see the 16th-C project you're going to be working on. Please keep us posted on your knitting, crochet, curtain, mending, and sewing projects. Hope you are well.

Lovely thank you I am glad you enjoyed all my projects. I did only crochet dishcloths for a number of years before moving onto Tams/berets and the uteri, I don't think I every counted to thoroughly if I kept to my original chain stitch number as they where very rarely completely square but they are still doing sterling service by the sink I even made some bright yellow ones for washing out curry pots so the turmeric stains would not show terribly
