I remember Chambliss was on the Braves but forgot Torre managed them. He was right to be upset. Hunter probably would have scored on Dusty but if Reggie Smith had still been on the Dodgers it may have been a different story. Reggie had a cannon for an arm.

He either stayed with or came back to the Braves. He was their pitching coach in 1982 when the Cardinals swept them in the 1982 NLCS.

Jay Randolph is actually still alive. He's in his late 80's and lives here in the St. Louis area where he has lived and worked for years in addition to his national broadcasting duties back in the day with NBC. Tragically, he did lose one of his Sons, Jay Jr. to cancer about a year ago and I believe he lost another Son before that. Jay Sr. however is still with us. Just heard him on the radio recently offering remembrances after Whitey Herzog passed away.

I was a Braves fan then, through the suck years later in the 1980's and the good times in the 90's. I liked Niekro, but I swear that pitcher must have owed him a favor. That was a fat one over the middle.

Including this game, the Braves were 15-3 in Smoltz's starts from then on as he went 12-2 with 4 CGs and interestingly enough only gave up six homers in 123 1/3 innings.

Phillies fan here, and I think it was in 1991 that I was at a game in Philly (on a warm Sunday afternoon) where I think it was Smoltz who took a no-hitter into the 9th inning. Lenny Dykstra broke it up with a 1-out hit.

I wish he would have been this pleasant in 1976 when I approached him as an 11 year old autograph seeker at the St Louis Airport. He told me to "buzz off". I didn't realize until I got back home to Georgia that night that it was probably the Braves cap I was wearing that upset him. Ironically, if true, he would be traded to the Braves 4 years later. I never was a fan of the turd hungarian after that.

Always liked the big letters the Reds used for the names on their backs. Especially when the players had long names. They never reduced the size of the letters to accommodate it. They just circled the name around. I thought it made the Reds look like intimidating assholes

The Reds resorting to thuggery as usual. It’s about the type players they attract and the attitude of the citizens of Cincinnati that worship them.
