Aha I met one of The 12 Cellists in Central HK. It was very nice because I like this magnificent piece of music of you so much. 👏👏 At the present, I am in London. Hopefully we, The 12 Cellists and me, will meet in London soon.
Never knew that when Karajan finally decided to appoint a successor his choice was Kleiber…too bad he waited so long to retire, if he hadn’t Kleiber might have accepted and then we might have had a interesting change of pace .
I am with you, brother! Every time I think I’ve had my fill of LvB, I stumble upon something like this, and I am under the spell once more…and somehow the power it holds over my imagination only grows with each encounter. Beethoven is immortal.
Wonderful...however can spot the Mass isn't the tradional Mass. No prayers at the foot of the altar. No altar server. The priest, deacon and sub deacon would only be offering Mass on the High Altar. The side altars would be only a priest singing a Missa Cantata. There is no sung parts for the priest and no singing of the collects.
In the midst of all these appraisals, let me speak a different voice here : although there is no doubt this is one of the best - if not the best - celli section in the world, and I fully agree with all that’s been said about their tone, articulation, vibrato and overall ensemble playing, I would certainly not say this is the best Pavane or the best arrangement of it. Actually, I don’t like the arrangement. It is very monotonous. Fauré’s music is not Mahler’s, it is delicate and needs subtlety and not permanent tutti playing… there are some parts in the middle where I don’t hear anything anymore, it gets muddy because too many lines play together without contrats, and no voice leading. Yet the result is overall good because the music is great and the players are outstanding. But with a more edgy, precise and accurate arrangement it could have been magical…. think about how Bartok would have arranged it ! Or Ravel ! There were a lot of different colors to be found with 12 cellists of this caliber :-)
Das ist eine glatte Zumutung. Nimmt das Orchester gerade Fahrt auf und eine der interessanten Passagen kommt ...kommt Werbung und anschließend v. Karajan mit dem Violinkonzert. Also nein! Alle Liebhabern der 4. zur Warnung.
Siempre ejecuta MUY BUENAS interpretaciones esta francesa Vivica !!!!....me agrada el timbre lírico de su voz y estilo, casi todos los videos de esta GRAN mezzoSoprano las veo y escucho...
