@@valeska_kevinleahy hahaha couldn't have happened without Ali, that's for sure. Thanks so much bro, happy to hear you enjoyed it, and your thoughts on the song! Do you remember that Boss Looping pedal I had in college, with the dual pedals? This recording is from back then. The recording is a live take of me looping my acoustic guitar through that pedal, into my recording interface. I think I also attempted to play it live at 1 or 2 open mics at college lol but decided the stress of accidentally messing up loops live was not for me 😂

how do you connect a guitar pedal to a pocket operator? do you need to run it through a daw on your pc or can you jus plug ur PO into a guitar pedal then into a speaker?

Trippy. How do you connect the two devices? And what cables are needed? Thanks.
@brianleahyart
@brianleahyart 2 года назад
So you'll need a 3.5mm TRS-to-MIDI cable adapter, as well as a standard 5-pin MIDI cable. Note that there are 2 types of 3.5mm TRS-to-MIDI cables: type A and type B. Type B will not work with the NTS-1. I use this Type A one: www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/0-COASTMidi--make-noise-0-coast-midi-cable-1-8-inch-trs-to-5-pin-midi You plug this adapter into the NTS-1's MIDI In jack, and then attach the standard 5-pin MIDI cable to it - this is what you plug into the Monologue's MIDI Out. The result is the Monologue's sequencer sending MIDI notes to the NTS-1, which the NTS-1 is then applying to its arp. Fun to note - you are only hearing the output from the NTS-1 here. Technically you could also record the Monologue's output as well at the same time, for 2 different layers of sound!

@brianleahyart

Thanks AP B, glad to hear you liked it! I record using a Focusrite Scarlett 18i8 interface (2nd generation), going into my computer via USB. In this case, it's a regular guitar cable coming out of the guitar effects pedal in the video, going into the interface, but when I'm only recording 1 PO, I'll use a 3.5mm to 1/4" cable into the interface, or a regular headphone cable (3.5mm to 3.5mm) with a headphone adapter on the end of it, to make it guitar-cable size before it goes into the interface RE: the 18i8 model of interface that I have, I chose it because it can record up to 8 audio sources simultaneously. If you don't need to record that many instruments at once, you could just get one of Focusrite's smaller models for cheaper price. They have some that just record 1 or 2 instruments at once. You can also save money sometimes by purchasing an older generation of their interfaces (I think they're on their 3rd or 4th generation now, but their 2nd gen is still great, for instance) RE: interfaces in general, there's lots of brands these days that are in the same price range as Focusrite. I bet most of them will be decent choices for starting out - you can always upgrade down the road once you experiment and decide what you really want!

Hello, I'm thinking about buying EHX Freeze but at the same time i'm really disappointed about expensive price and not very much of functionality besides freezing. So I just wonder how this pedal can be compared with EHX one. Can I freeze distorted and not reverbed sound of guitar as a heavy rod for my stuff. And what about the LED knob and speed control? Some audio demo will be really cool and helpful. Waiting for your answer, thanx.

What is the case your using?
@brianleahyart
@brianleahyart 3 года назад
For the Pocket Operator, it is the Teenage Engineering official case for the Pocket Operator Office. (I used an Xacto knife to slice a slot in the top so that I would not have snap the tab off the Pocket Operator, ha). In case you were asking about the case for the guitar pedals, these are made by Mooer. They are basically awesome mini suitcases for pedals. They each hold 6 mini guitar pedals (or you could cut the foam to fit different size pedals) plus a daisy chain for power connection. What you see here is 2 of these 6-pedal suitcases, with the suitcase covers removed so that I can place them right next to each other

@brianleahyart
@brianleahyart 3 года назад
Cool to hear! Thanks! Yeah the pedal is def adding some atmosphere. But the Robot wouldn't be lost without it. 1 or 2 of the lead tones (like the one here) have a little delay built in. And its low and high-pass filters can help it get further. But yeah I figure, why NOT add some reverb to it? ;) Cheers!

@@brianleahyart I really like it! I’m planning on getting one, it’s how I found your vid. I have the KO and Tonic, and then picked up the Sub for a bit of Bass. I was very surprised how good the Sub was, I was expecting it to be a bit of a step backwards …I was wrong. That’s what got me looking at the other 1st Gen POs (if I can call them that). The Robot and the Rhythm look like good additions.
@brianleahyart
@brianleahyart 3 года назад
@@gapster77 That's awesome! I totally agree on the Sub btw - I also expected the 1st generation PO's (Rhythm, Factory + Sub) to be less sophisticated. Not true at all, turns out. In fact I wish the newer PO's had some of their features, like the 00 / "Keyoo" button that gives you 16 different Play Styles, on top of all the normal FX! That one is so good, I can't believe the new PO's don't have it, ha. I also love how many different tones the Sub and Factory can produce (16 completely different basic tones, each with an A and B parameters that interact substantially with one another) Ps. Hope you have a blast with your new Robot!
@gapster77
@gapster77 3 года назад
@@brianleahyart Don’t have the Robot yet, but defo getting it soon. Have you got the Rhythm and the Tonic? I’m trying to find someone who has both to ask if it’s worth getting a Rhythm when you already have the Tonic? What are the differences?
@brianleahyart
@brianleahyart 3 года назад
@@gapster77 I have the Rhythm but not the Tonic, although I have done some research on the Tonic as I've considered getting it as well. The 2 biggest differences I've learned so far are 1) the sounds: The Rhythm's sounds are really good and cover a wide variety of genres, but they cannot be changed/swapped out; with the Tonic you can swap in new sounds. You know about the Microtonic software by Sonic Charge? In case not, it's a separate $ purchase from the Tonic. Virtual synth where you can make brand new sounds and then transfer them to your Tonic PO. I don't know if you could make the Rhythm's sounds with this software, but that extra layer of expansion might be a decision factor for you- I think it's roughly the same cost as a Rhythm. 2) Their play styles and polyphony: The Rhythm's FX operate similarly to the Sub and Robot's, and it has a high polyphony (you can put a lot of the various sounds on a single step within your pattern and hear them all at the same time). With the Tonic, I believe it has lower polyphony (4 notes at once I think?) I think it could still be worth having both, especially if you're a percussion enthusiast. Layering 2 different drum machines is always a blast and opens new doors. Also, the Rhythm is very easy to use as a low-thought accompaniment while you jam on another instrument, like a guitar or synth. I use it a lot that way.
