I'm 23, I don't really feel like a "man" yet since I don't contribute to society yet. Like you, I'm also still studying, going to uni, developing, trying to get everything ready in order to find a stable job. I think the idea that a man must provide, especially at such a young age, is from many decades ago where people didn't study and at our age would already be working in a factory for years. When you decide to get kids, and you're working a job, and you choose together for a traditional household, of course then it's your job to provide financially because she is actively providing you by trying to raise children and do upkeep of the living area etc. But you two settle for a more modern household, you can also find a balance by both working part time and you provide for each other. When you're in a relationship without a job, without a shared house, without children, etc. of course there's less responsibility. I decided what's most fair with my girlfriend that we balance things out by equal time investment rather than money. I lucked out, got a great paying side-job as an engineer, she's struggles more as an artist and has significantly less secure opportunities. When we go on holidays etc, financially I take up more on the bills but in my mind I don't consider it "providing" for her as in the end I simply had to work as many hours as her to finance such a holiday, restaurant visit, day out to some festival, museum, zoo, whatever. We both pursue our dreams, we both pursue our careers, we invest the same amount of time in a relationship, and our relationship does not come at an expense of our development. It even helps us in our careers, we're polar opposites, her gut-feel approaches help me solve problems in my field, my analytical approaches help her solve problems in her field, we improve each other. For us this is our perfect balance, but everyone is different so you'll have to figure out what's most comfortable and feels best for you. Also, when you enter a relationship, I see many of my friends slip up by actively seeking for a partner rather than stumbling upon one. This is a big mistake because then you lower your own personal standards and you are way more willing to compromise to look good to get a relationship to work. In the end you're gonna slip up sooner or later, fall into your own habits and the relationship dies out again. Just wait until you find someone you have chemistry with, it can take a year, it can take a decade. You can significantly raise your chances by simply being more amongst people and trying to engage a lot with new people. Then a relationship takes little to no effort to keep healthy, you have less on your mind on trying to change your behaviour around her and you can focus more on the fun things. Most important is you find someone who loves you for who you are in a natural state, and vice versa. If there's demands, go seek for the next one. And if you constantly attract the wrong women, maybe it's some of your own behaviour that needs some work. The stories you see a lot on the internet are extremes, and they're a poor representation of the real world, either side attacks the other, but if you're a good person yourself, you'll attract good people and there's little to really worry about.
