Wow got it 90% better! Just need to tune it a little more. This session only one speed about 10% of the time it whistled. Compared to previous session where 90% of time it was howling and even vibrating under my back foot! I also chopped the tips as per Oskar Johannsen recommendation. Really nice feel more bite in the turns. I think the remaining hum is likely from needing to fine tune the tips. Hope to catch a session with you in Kailua 🤙🏽 thanks again!

@@RobWestgeest-m6p Sorry. Got lazy posting the setup details. PM795 mast. 60 fuse. And my favorite tail for trying to paddle up the MA1750 was the crisp 333 tail. The glide 220 gives you more forward drive when you pump, but it's slow and draggy. The speed 180 loosens it up and makes it turn better and reduces drag. But you gotta keep the speed up when pumping. The crisp 333 tail has the most forward projection when pumping and has a surprisingly low drag profile. Now days the biggest foil I usually ride it the HA1180 with either the speed 180 tail or the dart 140. 😎🤙

The breach recovery is amazing with the MA foils. Unlike any other foil I’ve every ridden. The MA1750 is faster than the APF1675 by a lot. But it’s also a lot harder to flat water paddle up. But, if you are winging the MA1750 works in practically no wind. The APF1675 is a special foil because of it’s super low stall speed. So super light wind winging, or dock starting, or flat water paddle ups, or learning to downwind. I should ride the MA1750 back to back with the HA1180 and do a review of the two. The HA1180 is very efficient. I have to say the 1180 pumps easier than the 1750. Not sure on their stall speeds. I’ll have to get back to you. Follow me and Look for future videos. 😎🤙

@flightjunkie808 11 месяцев назад
Hi. Thx. The 1675 is much easier to pop up. Lower stall speed and super easy pumping. The 1750 is faster but much harder to paddle up and the pump is harder to Maintain speed between bumps. The 1750 breach recovery is amazing. The 1675 is tricky to go fast on, it takes a small rear tail and lots of practice to go fast on it. 1675 is happy at 12-14 mph. The 1750 is happy at 15 mph. 1675 top speed for me was 18 mph dropping in on downwind swell. The 1750 is closer to 20 mph. Doesn’t sound like a lot, but is a noticeable difference. However, if you are trying to Lear to downwind the 1675 is a game changer! It’s so much easier to paddle up and to not come off foil when hunting for bumps

I’ve been using this method to learn DW thanks to you! Great to see it start to finish. I had a fishing boat come over to check if I was alright when they saw my wing deflated. You have to love the community on the water. With the k-pump, do you just keep pumping until the unit starts to bleed air (I think around 8psi)? When I first tried this I under inflated my wing - which I was surprised how hard it was to use. I also need better Velcro straps for the paddle. Great technique and thanks for sharing in more detail!! Are you liking the APF over the 1750 for DW?
@flightjunkie808
@flightjunkie808 Год назад
Hi. Thank you my friend. It's good to hear others are using this technique! 😂🍻 As far as wing pressure. I always push on my wing while inflating in with my regular pump. This trains you to feel the correct pressure. I like to pump up to 6-7 PSI. Never blindly trust a pressure gauge. By squeezing, pushing on, flicking the bladder while inflating you will learn what the correct pressure feels like. This keeps a faulty electric pump shut off, or a bad pressure gauge from over inflating your wing, because you can tell it's getting too hard, and stop. So, I just do this on the water with the k-pump. The k-pump will do 10 psi, so be careful you don't overinflate your wing. As far as the foil. The APF 1675 is way easier to paddle up than the MA 1750. The 1675 is also super easy to pump and makes staying on foil easy when downwinding. As I get better, or when I have stronger winds and bigger swell I hope to ride smaller foils. My goal is to downwind the HA 1125. That's my favorite foil. But, so far I can't paddle it up. 😎🤙

Hi! Thank you. I had this custom 40L board made the same as a downwind board if you are familiar with those. Like the Kalama Barracuda, the Malolo is Amundson’s DW shape. Long and skinny seems to be best for low drag. I just had it shrunk down to 40L. Yes, I’m very impressed with how easy it starts. But, with a big enough foil I’m sure you could start just about anything with a lay down type start. As far as for pumping, it depends on if your setup is front foot or rear foot heavy. My Armstrong setup is rear foot heavy, so having the box in the back makes pumping easier. This setup also makes the box closer to the center of rotation, the axis around which the board rotates in pitch when pumping. The ideal setup is one where the board weight is equal both sides of this axis. 😎🤙

@flightjunkie808
@flightjunkie808 Год назад
@@guywhitworth5764 The long tail makes the board plane faster with less drag. So, it would make catching small waves easier. The tail doesn’t hurt with high aspect foils because they need a much flatter pitch for takeoff or they stall, so like a runway type takeoff. Low aspect foils really like a good kick tail so you can pitch the board nose up to pop up onto foil. Everything is a trade off though, so there is some overlap.

Hi! Interesting. You are probably stalling the wing. These tight canopies and higher aspect ratios are more sensitive to this. Try letting your back hand out until the wing is unloaded, then just pull in with your back hand a little bit. If you keep pulling in with the back hand more and more you will feel the pull of the wing drop off, this means you have stalled the wing. When stalled it will feel uncontrollable and provide much less pull. Play with this. When you get the pitch correct for maximum pull (back hand pulled in just a little) then I suggest a circular wing pumping motion. Push the wing upwind and away from you as far as you arms can reach, then pull the wing backwards being careful not to pull in too much with your back hand, pull the wing backwards and towards you, when all the way pulled in push the wing forward and away from you. This makes a backwards circle motion. Do it quickly. Lmk how this works for you. 😎🤙 It's like scooping air from in front of you to behind you. Like you are using the wing as a paddle to paddle the air while being careful not to stall the wing, it's an airfoil after all. Gotta maintain laminar flow. 😎🤙

Nice board and great technique! I had a foildrive the flakey remote connection was definitely one of the worst aspects about it other than the clugey box on top of the board. The new Cedrus mast version is a big step in the right direction hopefully they keep improving.

Awesome work! Have you tried many other foils? Curious your opinion compared to other lage foils. I own quite a bit of Armstrong gear and considering the 1750.

Thank you! The MA1750 is much closer to the HA1525 than it is to Axis PNG1150. The 1750 has a high stall speed and is what I would call a technical foil. It’s got a very thin airfoil section, so it is very pitch sensitive, meaning at low speeds it stalls if you pitch up or pump too hard. This makes it hard to flat water paddle up or dock start. But, it is lower drag and faster than the 1150. IDK if you have heard, but Armstrong is currently testing a pump foil that will be like the PNG1150. To sum it up, I am happy with the MA1750. Compared to the HA1525 it turn’s better but has less glide, and is easier to paddle up. 😎🤙

I see sharks quite often. I’m regularly a few miles out to sea by myself foiling. So far no issues. You just have to project energy that you are also a apex predator. Be like Ocean Ramsey right!? 🤣🤷‍♂️

That board looks pretty slick. Anything you’d change about it? A buddy and I are thinking of making something very similar. In the 50-60L range but similar shape in concept. I’m liking the stale fish technique! I’d didn’t even know you could hold the remote like that under water and it would work. Thanks for the tip!

Thx! The board turned out pretty good. Only thing I’d say is maybe hold off on installing foot strap inserts until you’ve ridden the board for awhile. It’s hard to get them in the correct position.

Good video thanks! What battery are you using? Is it the standard one? 8s3p?

Hi! Thx. This is the foil drive assist plus with the standard battery. That’s the biggest battery option. Works good. I only have one battery and my legs are cooked by the time the battery is dead. 😎👍

Do you notice much of a performance difference from 85mast to new mast?
@flightjunkie808
@flightjunkie808 Год назад
In flat water with low ocean energy I don’t really notice it. But, when in big wind swell or surf with a lot of energy and more force needed to maintain control, that’s when I notice it. I’m 175lbs. Heavier riders claim to have problems sooner. 🤷‍♂️. This is the A+ mast. The A+ mast is stiffer than the original 85cm mast probably by as much as the new performance mast is stiffer than the A+ mast if that makes any sense. 😂🤙

@@flightjunkie808 curious if you say that because you read it somewhere or because you felt it. My experience was different, for me A+ and non A+ are the same exact masts. I made a video about that: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TG_C9n-0Q8Y.html Cheers

@@gcammar Hi. Yes! I’ve watched your video. You do a great job. I have not personally experienced the difference. Armstrong has confirmed that the A+ mast is stiffer than the pre A+ mast. I’m not saying your test results were wrong. Just maybe that was the exception? Like maybe you got a late generation pre A+ that they already made stiffer? Idk. But, plenty of long time Armstrong riders say they have both masts and the A+ is much stiffer. It’s also possible that the pre A+ mast has structural failure internally that makes it lose it’s stiffness and your mast hasn’t failed. 🤷‍♂️
