Hi. Love this painting style. How do you keep your paper from warping? Mine warps even though it is taped. Thank you.

I've just completed my own version of this, following along with your tutorial, and I am absolutely delighted with the result! I have been working on a series of small negative watercolour paintings recently, and this final one is the best yet! I love your technique and the ethereal results you get. Definitely something to pursue further! Thank you so much. New subscriber!

I'm going to a Plein Air painting on the Connecticut River between Colebrook & Pittsburgh, NH this morning. I've been watching your tutorials in hopes I can do a better painting than I usually do. Knowing this was painted in NH helps!! Thanks for your tutorials.

Also, without seeing the sketch, applying masking fluid makes no sense if we don't know where you're intending to paint or not. I mean, come on! if you're going to make a tutorial that's accessible to all, then explain. Even though I don't have experience in watercolor because I dropped it 30 years ago, that doesn't mean that I've not worked in acrylic and oil. So many things missing from this tutorial. So much assumption. While this style could be available to all levels, it seems very difficult.

Dude! I understand that you're a pro and probably sell paintings at a premium, but what about us folks that are just painting for the joy of it? What would you put your stamp on for more affordable brushes and paper. I simply, as a student, can't afford the best of the best for anything.I get that you're showing what you use, but how about some cheaper alternatives for the rest of us?
@aprildegele1510

I understand, but I'm not sure why. It seems intuitive. I'm going to try it!

So, your description of positive and negative is confusing to me. I, personally (and it's just me), would like to hear it terms of forward or back, or light and dark, because no matter what you call it, it's all the same, yes? So, I'm going to just watch what you do and ignore the "positive and negative" because that confuses me personally. Still GREAT information! I can see the values and I get why you do what you do, and that's all that matters. Very good video! Helped me a lot.

When I rough sketch something like this, I get totally confused about what outline goes with which leaf. Can you do this in layers? Back first, front last? Or will it leave too many pencil marks or create some other problem I'm not aware of? So much easier in acrylic or oil because there are additives for transparency. This is one of the reasons I stopped watercolor a couple of decades ago. Creating transparency is very much different in watercolor.

That is so lovely in its simplicity Rick. Your paintings show that we can make virtually any photo interesting. It requires imagination and, unfortunately, looking beyond the mass of detail in a photograph, which is not easy. Thank you for the inspiration and the great teaching.

Hi Rick, I recently discovered you on RU-vid and have been devouring your videos. I love your style and am anxious to learn. I can't for the life of me find the reference photo, drawing and final picture for the Inn at Brandywine on your website. I have seen the other comments heree and followed all the things. If it is still available, would you kindly direct me? Thank your for the amazing content you provide!

Rick, just a note here to let you know I really appreciate your work, and you taking the time to do these tutorials. Love your style of painting as well! Question? What is the tip on the masking fluid bottle that you use? And is it all in one? Or do you purchase each item separately? Bottle, tip, and masking fluid. Thank you!

Thank you for your comment! I use fillable quilling glue bottles that I fill myself from a jar of masking fluid. I list the supplies I use on my website. Here is a link to the masking supplies.rsurowiczart.com/sp-masking/
