Planning is so important. I do thumbnails for some paintings and and it helpful. I should do more of them and be consistent! I'll also turn my reference photo to black and white and that helps as well. Thanks for the reminder to plan, plan, plan!

Planning is the most difficult part of the pre painting process. I really appreciate this video. Thank you for sharing an important step in the process that is hardest for me to figure out 🙏

Great teaching video. Thank you for a well organized and clear step-by-step approach to planning a painting. This is timely for me as I have been feeling a bit intimidated about starting a new painting after not painting for quite a while.

I loved seeing how different it could be given the different values in each sketch - thank you. I'm going to do more of that.

Hello Rick, thanks for all the tips we have learned from your demo through the years. Can you please consider to teach on how to prolong the wetness of wash....on a larger dimension size of paper.

Thanks Rick. Your video was a wonderful way for getting started. My most successful watercolors were carefully planned. I often started with a plein air sketch, followed by a value study. The value study was used to help with composition. I send a lot of time practicing various parts of the painting, such as trees or rocks, before starting. I also may stop the painting to workout problem areas.
