@@thebeardedgunsmith9177 Fair enough. It’s just that it looks amazing. You went with a very basic utilitarian design, probably just to see what you could do. Now think of what you could have done. The design, the aesthetic….if you tweak it a bit in the design, this could look pretty friggin amazing. And, let’s face it, yours came out damn near perfect. If I could have one built that resembled a German Luger in appearance, I’d be all over this shit like a bad rash. And, yes….this thing is basic but realize….i “understand” what you did and how you did it but I just don’t have all the cool tools and practical knowledge of “doing” it. Anyway….thanks for the reply

Nice video, with interesting content! I've cold blued an old rusted shotgun with the birchwood casey kit. But wanted to see how it was done professionally. Parts look nice! Good work!! I just subscribed, and gave another 2A Patriot a thumbs up.

Since you're getting started consider making a Tool Block that holds a Fordom Handpiece. Lots easier than offsetting the Barrel.

You should make a taper attachment for your lathe.........once you get the tailstock aligned properly for chambering........you don't want to mess with it. You can also hold the cylinder portion of the contour with a chuck for rigidity instead of a center/dog setup.

I've considered buying or making a taper attachment but I've gotten so proficient at turning blanks without one and resetting my tailstock that I don't know that it would really benefit me.

Would like to get a 20" Maverick done in the future. Nothing 20" out there in stock for a while it seems. Good work you're doing. 👍 What chokes would you recommend that'd be beefier threads? Any idea what model shotgun that barrel was for? Or know already if Maverick 88 barrels are a candidate for threading.

Freeze large pieces of ICE to water your solution down when it's boiling (or add the water before it gets hot). I know it sounds insane, but it actually works without causing a geyser of violent eruptions like plain water does. Try it!! Been doing it for years and it works very well.

I cold blued a barrel shroud and I cleaned it really well took my time and made multiple coats and rubbed it down really well let it soak in oil but then the next day it’s got a whole bunch of surface rust on the inside of the barrel shroud and it’s hard to get even the smallest of brass brushes in there to clean it I don’t know what to do I feel like I’ve ruined it… I completely restored an old 50’s Remington 22LR and it turned out wonderfully with cold blue I don’t understand Need suggestions on what to do. How can I fix this or do I need to start over

boil or steam the shroud for an hour the red rust will convert to blue exactly how rust bluing is done

Hi.. have you come across a "homemade .410 over under pistol" made by an american on youtube years ago. I think that guy was in the army and a machinist as well. He made 2 pistol; one was a single barrel and the other was the over under pistol with a single trigger. I can no longer see the video on youtube and also i forgot his channel as well. If you did come across his videos and saved his video, kindly forward it to me, there's lot of information on the mechanism for learning purpose OR if you remember his channel, kindly tell me the name of his channel, i will contact him. Best regards (:

@MegaLostOne
@MegaLostOne 8 месяцев назад
Do you have to adjust fairly quick and often just after moving the steady rest to the tapered section to keep the chatter out, or to a minimum, until the steady rest takes the form of the taper? I'm guessing at first it's going to wear fairly quick where the head stock end of the rest is taking all of it until if forms all the way across the bronze.
@thebeardedgunsmith9177
@thebeardedgunsmith9177 8 месяцев назад
Typically not. That used to happen to me until I found just the right amount of pressure for the fingers to be pushing on the barrel. Also using heavy way oil and having a polished surface keeps it in check.
