I yelled at you twice! Dont leave the T handle in the chuck! Im not being negative, someone yelled at me when I was was new on a lathe. Good work, i like the wedge nut and the center drilled bolt for the tail stock. Good idea. Stay safe

I had a shotgun with a 24” barrel once upon a time. Loved that gun, and was very proficient with it. Sadly I lost that gun in a divorce, had to sell it for money for an attorney. A few years later I was able to buy another but the manufacturer only offered 28” barrels at that time and in order to buy a 24” barrel from the manufacturer it was fully half the cost of a new complete gun. I opted to have the barrel shortened by a smith. Unfortunately he was not able to cut threads for the “OEM” chokes and had to use aftermarket chokes. I ended up with exactly what I wanted and the new aftermarket chokes work just as good. A good gunsmith is hard to find so kudos to you for going the extra mile and making your customers end product as professional as you could. Nicely done 👍

This is what you hope the smith does when you pay him. Nicely done.

that is a hell of a lot more work than just hacking it off with a cut-off saw - but the end result is absolutely awsome

I was going to say don't flick the chips while the machine is running but you addressed that and yes it can ruin your day for sure😁 great job and no hacking it up.

Very nice! Wish I had machining skills and a lathe, because I did a hack saw job and whipped up some squaring jigs out of scrap wood and it ended up looking very much like a hillbilly job.

I apologize that I cut some of it out. This was one of my first videos so I wasn't worth a damn behind or in front of the camera lol. I split the thing at an angle length wise and threaded the one half white the other half had a clearance hole for the screw so that it would expand when inserted into the barrel and the screw tightened. The screw head then had a center point drilled in it to fit in my live center.

That beard 🧔‍♂️ tells you everything about him. This guy knows what he’s doing. 👍

How would you thread that to add a thread in choke?
@thebeardedgunsmith9177
@thebeardedgunsmith9177 3 года назад
By reaming the bore and using a tap made specific for the desired choke tubes and bore size. It can be done manually by setting the barrel up in a cats head and indicating true in a steady rest then using the lathe to bore and thread but the reamer is faster and easier.
