my name is Sam and together with my girlfriend Lyanne, we are on a quest to restore the beauty of this old Italian villa from 1895.
Join us as we have to let go of our Dutch habits to adapt to our Italian surroundings, where the word 'plan' gets redefined and our tastebuds are awakened. The goal of this project is to show that with limited financial means and a lot of optimism we can resurrect the beauty of this abandoned villa in a green and sustainable way. But most of all learn from everything that we encounter and enjoy it whilst we're at it.

Thank you for your reply! I really appreciate your approach to maintaining the natural flowers and plants to support local wildlife - that’s exactly the kind of balance we need. I can imagine the bees and lizards enjoying the space, and the tomatoes are a great touch! I also love how you and your lovely wife are putting so much work into the renovation. Keep it up! If there’s space along the driveway, maybe a little patch of wildflowers could fit in there as well? It doesn't take much to make a big difference. Wishing you both the best with the ongoing work! /HPH
Gardening and growing your own food is great for your mental wellbeing and your physical health. Your learning and planning all the time and the feeling when you get to pick and eat what you grow is amazing. And the garden doesn't have to look perfect. You are very right many of us just want to rush through getting jobs done. When my children were young I waited until they were in bed to paint a room and stayed up all night to get it done as well as anything we got done to our home it was always get it done as quickly as. Before children no hurry and now they are young adults again no hurry. I painted the kitchen and cupboards during the summer also front and back outside the house when it rained I worked inside when weather was good worked outside also working a full-time job and I took my time and began enjoying it again.
It really is, I love it. I am so looking forward to the next growing season already. Go you! I think it’s a balance right, sometimes need to get done to be able to proceed, but most of the time I would like to be able to enjoy it as well. Doesn’t mean I have to smile all the way through, it’s hard work but rewarding though. Sounds like you know where that balance is, go you :)
I feel that the video contents have improved greatly. Rather than blow by blow removal of pipes etc, it is lovely to see your results in the garden too. Loved the dinner party but who got invited (neighbours I hope) and good coverage of preparations but very short footage of dinner party itself. I’m still finding hard to watch you remove the paint on doors with heaters. Why not use Nitromors type paint stripper? Carry on the good work. A bit more comments as you go along to advise what you’re doing inside - similar to comments in garden - would be lovely. Your parents and your girlfriend are very lovely. Let us know a bit more about them. All the best.
Thanks a lot! Good to hear that, yeah I was too busy enjoying the evening, that I forgot to film it all. The heat guns is what we have, but we could try paint stripper as well. Thanks!

Hi, good job making fresh pasta. Yes the "tagliatelle" are too long, next time instead of hanging the pasta to dry you can roll a handfull and give a shape of small nests and let them dry on a cotton dishcloth. It will be easier to store the pasta or to cook it.
How proud you must be to feed all your guest with food mostly from your garden. Fresh, wholesome comfort food. What could be better than that. Keep doing what you love because it will never feel like work if you enjoy it.
Brill vlog, Lovely to see the fun side of you both as you are always working so so hard. Take no notice of any negativity in comments, it's only the green eyed monster speaking, jealousy. You are all doing great. Take care and stay safe❤
Absolutely the best video you've ever made I agree, family participation, gardening, construction, allariund fantastic! Koootooes to you V.O.!award winning blog should win the golden trophy!😂😊❤❤❤❤❤
Too many people are in a hurry, I agree with your approach. Too many people need to have evenly sown vegetables, flowers in the garden, a garden on the scale of English gardens, life or beauty is not squares, rectangles, circles (it is not ideal).
I don't comment very often but have watched from the beginning and I just want to say your way is just fine. It really isn't just about the end goal it is about the journey getting there, I watch a lovely lady in Portugal who gets similar criticism and my response to them is the same here it's YOUR journey and you do it YOUR way and for me I will sit back and enjoy and be inspired by it. This is the life I wish for my children (I am too old and in a wheelchair now so my time is sadly past).
First off, thank you so much for being part of this journey, I really appreciate it. And you’re right, that makes us all unique and therefore also the is channel. Glad you’re enjoying the adventure, thanks again for being part of it!
A very nice footage of your "Journey" Fun to watch. Italian life, nature and a beautifull city nearby. The snail on the pole you should bring to your veggies. It is a tiger snail and it eats other snails not your vegetables. Helping hands and good tools gets the job done. Nice progress o the bathroom. The soil in the garden looks wet and above the drainage channel, outlet, spill looks very dry. Where does the water in the drainage channel come from. Above the drainage channel the is a retaining wall. Is this the border of your property?
Glad to hear that, thanks! Yeah I always do when I see one :). Not exactly sure what wall and drainage canal you mean, let me know where in the video and I’ll tell you.
@@Villa_Oliva When you cross your bridge where does the water you cross come from. Sometimes the channel is full ,sometimes it's not. The terrace you planted the raspberry and Japanse wineberry as seem in video 079, you pointed out the retaning wall. Do you own the grounds above the wall?
@@Villa_Oliva If you have some time to spare, can't imagine when:), maybe you can take us on a exploration trip. Who knows what treasures you can find :) Is the mill downstream still in use.
Posso solo dire che ognuno ha i propri tempi sia sul lavoro che sulla vita stessa, complimenti perchè sei un gran lavoratore e meriti tutto il meglio 👋👋👋 Bellissima Torino!!!
Having just come back from a week in Portugal, and having also been in Italy and Greece this year it's clear that the Anglo Saxon approach to life and work is so wrong. Taking time out for that slow espresso break, to appreciate your surroundings and just watch the world go by makes life so much more enjoyable. My whole upbringing was about career being the most important thing, and I'm so glad that my children are adopting a different more balanced approach. Enjoy the journey.
Oma hat damals um 1970 auch noch selber Nudeln gemacht für die Gemüsesuppe. Mama hat das nicht übernommen, war ihr wohl zuviel Arbeit. Richtig, Pause und Ausflug muss auch mal sein.
Go your own way, Dear. Nobody is walking in your shoes. I always talk about my PIZZA THEORY. This means.....if everbody was an Pizza, so everyone has to decide himself what he/she wants to eat on their own Pizza. We shouldn´t try to tell people what they should do on their Pizza. It is not our right, even if we love them. if people don´t take care of their own Pizza, so that is their decition not ours. Love, kim And say hello to sweet dad.
Thanks Kim! Funny analogy, and yes there is definitely a balance between freedom to explore and “protecting” what form and shape that might have. Will do, thanks!
Don't listen to the comments that tell you what to do. Plant the plants you want and where you want. Even if it's just for a while and you'll change everything later. Exercise whenever you want. Enjoy the moment. What will you do when you finish everything quickly? You'll be bored, and your body and psyche will be in pieces, they will suffer. Do everything as your mind and heart tell you. You're not hurting anyone, so your work, your home, your rest, it's just your business. Thank you for letting us to be into your life. It's your life. We are just viewers. Only. In a few minutes we'll switch to another channel. You'll still be with your life.
More julle.
Enjoy your journey. When you get to your destination you can look back and see how it all went. You are both beautiful people and I really enjoy watching you two together 😊
I enjoy seeing how much you love life, from eating unwashed carrots in the garden to seeing some exceptional architecture in the city! The dinner looked delectable, especially the homemade pasta! ✨🌞✨
Haha we didn’t get married, sorry for the confusion. What led you to think that we were? If it was the dinner, that was with all the people that I ate with for the last year but could never invite to Villa Oliva because it was too cold and so on. But now it was finally time. As I am writing this I understand, the church bells were ringing at that exact time for some reason, I see why you thought we got married, sorry for the confusion, my bad! Thank you though, still very kind😊
Yes it isn’t all about the destination but also about the journey. I’ve been where you are but not to your extreme. I’m still working on my garden after 30 years. I’m about to remove some old roses and replace them with fruit trees while building two more raised beds for more vegetables. The house always needs some maintenance and the fence is ready to be replaced again. But I can sit and relax and look around at all I have accomplished while also thinking about what needs to be done next. At some point the villa will be on maintenance rather than rebuild, modify and repair. Then you will be able to enjoy your garden even more. Just remember, there us nothing wrong with working smart. It gives you more time and energy for other projects. Like more gardening.
That’s beautiful and you’re right. I will probably get more efficient (e.g power tools, driveway etc.) we’ll see. Now it gives me time to think ahead whilst I enjoy what I’m doing. Thanks!
