I really loved my TR7. Yellow. Never overheated! I live in Australia, overheating shows up fast. It did have a GIANT black air scoop, which may have turned that around. I would still have it but I needed a house more.

A Long time ago, a friend of mine made an 'epic' journey in one of these cars. "Over the Alps ?, Crossing a dessert ?, or Circling the globe ? NO, he drove from Yorkshire all the way to the West Midlands ! ! ! Why was that epic ? (I hear you scream), well he did it without the help of functional brakes ! ! ! How did he slow down and stop ? As he was a strong bloke with 'Sturdy Boots' he had no problem with opening the door and stopping it by foot pressure ! And being a tiny car with a tiny engine, it was a 'credible strategy' to just be slower than everyone else and use the gears to slow down until it was possible to 'ram' the kerb side to stop ! And to 'cap it all' he made it back a few days later. On both journeys he also carried a passenger (without any 'sturdy boots) but I'm not sure if this helped ! Allas, later on that year, it's suspension broke and it got discarded on some waste ground and when my friend returned to recover it, it had been 'Taken' ! This was a shame as the way the world has 'turned out' had he given it a bit more love and respect, it could be worth a 'ton' of money now !

As a senior development engineer in Engineering department at MG working with Syd Enever, Roy Brocklehurst, Terry M, Don H , Alec Henry et al. I had some input into the New concept. It had a Central mounted DeDion axle, transverse Fuel tank and the 1750 Maxi power unit. Early tests at chicane Dunlop test area Fradley aerodrome were good .Although it was a bit shaky. The photo is interesting as I have no idea where or when this car was made into thus condition. It was engineered to compete and expand with MG V8 NEVER A BESTSELLER OR TYPICALLY MG. At the time Stokes and his cohorts were influencing most Engineering activities, including the MG air bag development To qoute " I'm not having those things in any of my cars ! Stop work on them today." Sad time when the company was closed.

Good video, I just bought an Austin Metro Vanden Plas from 1987. It's nice to see the typical issues the car might have. I, of course, also have challenges with the rear suspension.

My mum had an Austin 1100 and my brother had the Morris 1100. Sadly I was too young to drive them at the time. I feel like I missed out.

Maybe, if you ignore the ‘C’. It’s the second letter in the name.

You may, of course, have picked this up in the course of your research, Ed - but Topolino doesn't only mean 'little mouse', but is also the Italian name for Mickey Mouse.

So the choice of Triumph over MG had nothing to do with Triumph being Leyland and MG being BMC?

Can remember my dad driving the family from Brighton to Dawlish in Devon in an Armstrong Sidley. Anyone know of this car. Would be interested to find out more. It was the only car my father owned at that time. He bought it cheap because it had slow punctures and hole in exhaust pipe. The man that sold it to him wanted quick sale

Surely the 1800 was never disadvantaged by having too much power? It was a bit of a slug with the standard B series and the six too late when it was already dated and unloved. I can't imagine a buyer going Cortina because the crab had too many horses.

My father often used the hill brake during holidays in hilly areas. No matter how steep the slope, the car never went faster than 50 km/h.

The word is 'give' or 'giving' (verb) not 'gift' which is a noun ! The object of the act of giving becomes the 'gift'. BTW 'gifting' does not exist as an English word.
@TwinCam
@TwinCam 3 дня назад
English language rules are descriptive, not prescriptive. If rules were in stone, we wouldn’t have contractions like the one I’ve just used. We use words like ‘gifted’ as they have different weighting to the equivalent ‘given’. I must also note how the iPhone has no problem with its existence in autocorrect.

This car will always have a place in my heart. My dad bought one a few years before I was born, so I litteraly grew up with it. The first time I realised it was a special car was when we went to a track day at Spa-francochams when I was about seven. When I was 14 my dad sadly sold the car because there where some engine problems my dad couldn't fix himself. A few years later I saw that car for the last time, the guy that bought it had revised the engine and made the car comletly as original. I sometimes look online to see if I can afford one myself. If I ever get one I will for sure take it to Spa-framcorchamps with my dad.

They remind me of rims I had on an old Fiat X1/9. I think it was a 1980 model, so I imagine that the Folks at Momo reused some themes from that time period.

My Dad had the MG badged 1100 and it was bright red as a 7 year old in1976 the MG 1100 was the best of the best. My fondest memory is the wonderful comfort. Many many times I would fall asleep on the back seat because it was such a smooth car. I truly miss my Dad, God rest his soul, but I also miss that lovely 1100.

My dad owned one in the late 60's. If I remember correctly, the original dashboard was all steel and had a single, circular instrument 'cluster'. Also (could be wrong here) the choke lever was down by the drivers seat. Great video.
