The slow zoom out revealing more of that dope looking frame was gorgeous! Great compliment to an AWESOME track. What was the sample source for the vocal choppage? I feel like I should recognize it 🤔
Late to the party, but I just set up a headless m8 and have been working through some RU-vid tutorials. … and then I found this one. It’s like going from learning basic algebra to calculating black hole physics with a Nobel prize winning mathematician. I have a Polyend tracker which I quite like but now I *get* why everyone prefers the m8 by such a large margin. The automation tricks are so deep I’m not sure the pool has a bottom. Crazy. Well done m8!
The M8 is a truly magical device. And the beta version of the new firmware just dropped recently which has massively expanded this thing's potential. I also started off with the Headless version, but only because I knew I wanted the real thing and wanted to practice as much as I could before it arrived. If you haven't already, definitely hit up the M8 Discord server. The community there is extremely helpful and kind.
is this a straight out the m8 render or are you doing some post m8 mixing after in a daw? might have asked this before, sorry. sounds so clean, keep doing housey stuff!
Appreciate it! I try to do most of the mixing right on the M8, but will then import the stems into Logic and just use the mastering assistant and a limiter to round out the sound. The less I have to do in a DAW the better haha
@@that_Ranjit i was watching the track levels throughout the song (thanks for keeping it on that screen a while lol) and noticing how you're utilizing panning, it really helps with the width it sounds great.
@@that_Ranjit ive been doing the opposite of you basically haha, where ive been exporting a friends tracks (he's got the m8 i have the headless) raw or with just the chorus on and then reapplying reverbs delays, eqing compressing blah blah in Reaper. but i'll be the first to say you don't NEED to do that, the m8 sounds great on its own. i just do it for fun to get better at mixing.
@@tryingtotryistrying Yeah I love me some panning. I usually set an LFO to random + retrig on panning for percussive stuff and sample chops. Oftentimes too I will be more intentional and set the panning on each individual note trigger
Thanks! Oh man, tbh I literally just throw on a limiter and use the Mastering Assistant, maybe adjust some EQ of certain parts if it sounds like it needs it. I am not nearly experienced enough to truly understand mixing/mastering. I just sort of try and correct the stuff that sounds off to the best of my very limited ability lol
This is great. I am going to have to go back and start your workflow vid from the beginning, I got some learning to do. Like the Terrence McKenna sample.
I will usually export the individual stems from the M8, bring them into Logic, then adjust levels, EQ, maybe add some slight fx, just sort of polish the whole thing up a bit. There are times when I will also add more instrument parts or vocals. I find that bringing the stems into a DAW really helps me to bring the whole song together.
