A long, in-depth look at my workflow for creating a song from scratch on the Dirtywave M8 tracker. This intermediate walkthrough/tutorial is meant for M8 users who are already familiar with most of the basics. I cover a lot of ground and provide commentary about my thought process as I'm composing a song. So come with me on this journey as we meander through chords, beats, melodies, basses, and samples!
This track can be downloaded here (if you pay for the song I can send you the M8 bundle upon request): littlelosses.bandcamp.com/track/zealous-abyss

Long form content I love, and I think it's great to get one video with comprehensive guide/info. For me, I at the moment have trouble getting to watch an upload so long in a whole play-through - maybe you can triple up on your content by having the whole original video like this, and then a version with the first half and then a part with the second? It would certainly help me make sure I don't miss any of your expertise! Please don't stop sharing the M8 knowledge and experience ❤ Had a M8 for just less than a year but with life haven't used it as much as I would like to (every day!!!!) - so watching your stuff is like a speed run on learning curves!

Late to the party, but I just set up a headless m8 and have been working through some RU-vid tutorials. … and then I found this one. It’s like going from learning basic algebra to calculating black hole physics with a Nobel prize winning mathematician. I have a Polyend tracker which I quite like but now I *get* why everyone prefers the m8 by such a large margin. The automation tricks are so deep I’m not sure the pool has a bottom. Crazy. Well done m8!

The M8 is a truly magical device. And the beta version of the new firmware just dropped recently which has massively expanded this thing's potential. I also started off with the Headless version, but only because I knew I wanted the real thing and wanted to practice as much as I could before it arrived. If you haven't already, definitely hit up the M8 Discord server. The community there is extremely helpful and kind.

I’ve admittedly been struggling to do anything at all with the M8 for the past year. It’s always just felt too inaccessible to me. I figured that knowing the controls and what everything does from all the videos I’ve watched on it would have been enough, but it wasn’t. Your walkthrough is the first time I’m actually making progress with it and feeling like I’m taking away methods that I will actually remember and be able to use to get a song. I’m excited to get all this music out of my head and into the real world. Thanks!

I'm not sure if you physically own an M8, perhaps you need to to use this program, but another video showing all the button pressing you're doing, starting slowly, then letting the viewers know that it all starts to become second nature, that would be really fun to watch.

I don't know why I was scared of trackers till I got the polyend one. After you get a hang of the navigation and basics, the little tricks you can do to hack up things to make it interesting is really nice. I think thats what appealed to me about the Elektron stuff, is things like probability or conditionals (Probably because I have a computer science background). Digging the use of indian percussion for the examples too. Great, now after using this headless I am going to want the real thing (At least the hardware is even better with the refresh!)

yo bro, so you asked if anyone knew how to copy over settings in an instrument to save time and there actually is a way to do that. go into the instrument, select the name of the sample (if its a sample or what ever. so like select drum 3) it should be just to the left of edit. and just copy/paste that just like how you would copy paste anything else (shift/option, shift/edit).
