Angry Cylinders Classic Cars is the name of the shop I use for my classic car collection. I am a true Mopar fan and most of my vehicles are A-Body and B-body Dodges. I specialize in Coronet convertibles from 1966 to 1970. This is a private collection and not open to the general public. I rarely consider restoring any cars and prefer 2nd day clean driver quality over full restoration and trailer queens. I have nothing against it, just like to not be stressed out about their perfection. Angry Cylinders is not a business and I'm not in the business of selling, however when I need to thin the herd, I will sell and trade. You can see some of the cars if available at www.angrycylinders.com
A comment on the Mr. Norm headers. When I moved to Michigan in the late 80s, I bought a home from an older hot-rodder. He shared a Mr. Norm story related to a Dodge Super Bee he bought new in the late 60s. It had the big 440 motor and he would race it occasionally and in day Mr. Norm was one of the few places in the mid-West that had a chassis dyno. He decided to drive over to Chicago and get a set of their headers on the car and look to see what level of HP gain could be achieved over the stock "hi-flow" cast iron exhaust manifolds. They checked the HP to the rear wheels before switching over to the header exhaust system, and found they gained 100 HP to the rear wheels after the swap. Not sure what else was done to the exhaust system besides the headers, but apparently these headers were reasonably effective. Probably similar to the ones you have.
Since Chrysler kept it a mystery and we know it was better then stock, I feel fair to say it is not stock and will remain an unknown mystery. Thanks I liked the question
Do you have any actual info. or specs or how this in any way ties in with "Mr. Norm" ? I know his products but can't recall a "Gentle Ben" 426 ? Thanks
Sure do. I have the Chrysler Motor Corporation Car Record Card indicating it was shipped to Grand Spaulding Dodge, There is a Dealer Code 57147 that is for GSS, The only ad ever found for a 1966 Street Ram is in a 1966 Mr. Norm AD, tracing original ownership and Galen has reviewed all the documentation. "Gentle Ben" had nothing to do with Mr. Norm, it was the race car's name given to it by the second owner. Basically painted on the car.
@@2HacksGarage So far to my knowledge none other then this one has been public or produced documentation. There are 2 others that were registered with Galen but not seen by him or anyone that can back it up and I don't believe they have documents. I am guessing more are possible but since the 426 Hemi arrived earlier then Chrysler expected, I'd also guess they stopped work on hand making 426 Wedge Coronets. Mr. Norm at GSS would have got them and in his ad he says Coronet (singular) "Would you Believe? BRAND-NEW '66 CORONET 2-DR STREET RAM" "426 Street Ram 2-DR Sport Coupe 4-Speed, Full Factory Equipment" That ad says allot! For Mr. Norm to say "Would you Believe" tells me it was a unicorn even to him. "Full Factory Equipment" supports Chrysler installed it not the dealer.
@@2HacksGarage There is a silly AD in market place right now claiming to have one for 10k, no pictures and false info. I saw someone said 4 in the comments but nothing supports 4 and the other 2 that got registered have never come forth publicly to prove themselves. Until one is seen in public and documented, This is the only "known" one.
Hey the cars lucky it had the build sheet, If not no one would know these cars ever existed, and we would’ve raced the car. We didn’t have the money to fix it the way it deserved so we used old parts we had to get it together and take to shows. Glad to see Jim taking care of the car and giving it everything we couldn’t.
Mr. Norm, king of Mopar tuning. He held my boy when he was a baby, man did he sqaul, Norm just laughed. He was a good guy, loved talking with people .RIP Norm.
Hi folks. I owned a 1966 Dodge Coronet 440 series, 4 dr sedan. I bought it with a spun rod bearing in 1973, and rebuilt a 361 B block, to replace the 361 w/ the bad rod bearing. It was the same color blue that you are restoring to gentle Ben. However I want to point out that my car also had a white roof. And I don’t know if your research into Gentle Ben has confirmed it was delivered as all blue, or blue with a white painted roof. Keep the videos coming. Happy to watch the progress.
As the comments are turned off on the latest video, I will comment on it here. It was so good to hear the words Original and Stock come from you concerning the car. If all the research that the boys did is correct and usually Galen and Chrysler Historical is, this could very well be the LAST 426 Wedge car ever produced! And great that it went to Grand Spaulding, so sad that our beloved Mr. Norm is no longer with us it would be great to hear his thoughts on this particular car.
I think hard core Mopar fans will be pleased to see where this is going. I have several teams on it to get it done by summer. I am a true fan of Mr. Norm. He had the opportunity before passing to visit my shop where I did a tribute wall of his 60's Dodge dealership. He was kind to sign my Dodge cars too.
