You know what is interesting? All the crew members of Roger pirates probably were willing to tell everyone what the one piece is. Rayleigh almost revealed it to the straw hats at sabaoady and Oden wrote about it in his journal which was later torn off by someone. BUT, Roger was the only one who did not show any site of revealing what the One Piece was to the rest of the world. I feel like this has some meaning behind it.
I really never liked the explanation that Roger just got Oden to write the message for him. it was a really cool idea that Roger just somehow intuitively knew what to write and how to write it because he heard the Voice of All Things. The actual explanation is very mundane
Guys oda is god. After reading chapter 1120 today. It said professor Clover had a D in his name. Luffy and Roger could also hear the “voice” in all things too. That’s crazy
You fucktards don't understand the situation of the Roger Pirates during their discovery of "One Piece". Luffy is not even born yet, so what they could do? Tell the entire world about the truth? And the world government will wipe them out in an instant? Roger is dying too, so how could he fight? There's no way they can save the world when the real savior is not even born yet. So Roger just turned himself into marines and tell everybody that he hid a treasure, so people will go to the seas to find his supposed "treasure". Please watch the Roger flashbacks in Wano arc, even them asked themselves "who will find the one piece", because they only found history about joyboy and his comeback.
ever since the days i first watched One Piece in 2010, i have been waiting until the day we get a start on knowing what happened during the infamous Void Century, which finally happened in the latest chapter.
One Piece is Nothing but just a book having information about the Void Century imo, I bet on it. After knowing the truth of this world, luffy will decide what needs to be done ( A battle or A Surrender just like Roger )
Remember that this exact episode was aired within 2009-2010. I'm in my second yr college. Oden has been revealed after the total manga chapter doubled.

This moment was utterly jaw dropping when I first watched it. You knew Rayleigh’s answer would be yes but the bubble popping, the wind blowing, the music coming to a haunt, the sun being shrouded by a cloud and that sound effect that they sometimes use for dramatic emphasis/Haki was just a chefs kiss.

i think because world government and Rayleigh knows that A INFLUENTAL PERSON is more DANGEROUS than POWERFUL PERSON, that why wg dont chase the yonko and other powerful person, while Rayleigh even if him knows everything about the void century he cant change anything, bcoz he is not as influential like roger or luffy
I think its mainly because Rayleigh knows information about the secrets of the world, much like the other remnants of the roger pirates that witnessed the one piece on laugh tale that day. The WG will go to any extremes to keep that information hidden and possibly the roger pirates may have indicated they would release the info to the world if they were pursued, so their may have been a peace treaty signed or a contract that stipulates for the world government to not endanger or go after any of the Gol D. Roger pirates which is why shanks is also never pursued and instead acts as a double agent, other wise they risk bringing forth another calamity. Call it blackmail i guess. No doubt about it this story will come into play at some point.
it's not like rayleigh wasn't a wanted man nor under their control and he's not the only person who knows the history, other members of roger's crew might still be alive like crocus. they were pirates, they can scatter and hide themselves anywhere in the world

I don’t think Robin turned it down for the “journey” here. I think Rayleigh’s advice is that the final page’s interpretation of the book depends all the chapters you read before it
Garp never saw one piece, so know he wouldn't. Its as much of a mystery to many other pirates in the world. Though granted since he is from the era of ROX and predating Gol D. Roger's crew there is a chance he knows alot more then the straw hats but i don't think he knows what lies on laugh tale.
Looking back at this scene it makes a lot more sense now. *Spoilers probably* (since luffy broke the internet) It always confused me why Rayleigh mentioned that Roger and Ohara "hurried" in researching the void century when I first saw it. But in the Oden flashbacks, Roger said that despite having found the One Piece, they had arrived too early to Laugh Tale, which is probably what Rayleigh actually meant: The true value of the One Piece has yet to become relevant until a predetermined point in the future of which Roger, Rayleigh, Oden and Shanks were aware of. Now that Shanks has declared his intentions to claim the One Piece, coincidentally upon knowing that Luffy's Nika fruit has awakened, its clear that the One Piece's true value is dependent on Nika's revival.
Rayleigh and Oden are the true homies. They both don't snitch about what exactly is The One Piece and how to go to Laugh Tale. Even Oden willing to die by Kaido and Orochi rather than telling the truth to them because they're not worthy to get One Piece. Rayleigh also keeps the secret for many years.

I am glad I never watched One Piece to this day... this episode aired in may 2009, right around the time I became an anime fan. After Naruto and Bleach, this would have been the next to watch... I watched 20 episodes, but then went to summer camp, and never got back to it. 15 years would have been torture to live with this mystery. Sure, is fun to speculate and discuss with others, but is also frustrating. D Gray-man is one of my favorite manga and anime, and whoever knows that one, knows about the deep mystery that one holds, and about the torture of the 7 years hiatus, in which we were left with answers, and we didn't even know if the mangaka was still alive. Oh, and those poor bastards who read NANA. Now, with One Piece close to ending, I get to watch it when we are months or 2 years away from having our answers. Is a great feeling. I wasn't part of the journey, but I will enjoy the destination.
