What a fantastic tutorial! You did a beautiful job. I haven't used mine in a long time. Mine never looked right. Can't wait to try again. Thank you so much.
You are a great teacher. I agree with the other commenters. I have learned more in this video than all the others I have watched. Thank you for not assuming I had any knowledge of these techniques.
Oh, one more thing...I learned to use my pastels on backgrounds long ago. Instead of rubbing directly on the pastel, I was taught to take the pastel in one hand, being over were you want to lay down the color, and using a razor blade or Exacto knife scrape over the pastel so the shaving dust falls directly on your coloring page, then blend it out. Kind of a process, but I liked the results. To blend it was recommended to use one of the round/square face cleaning pads you showed in this video. You said you didn't care for the pads because they are too unpredictable & I agree, but I bet the cotton ball will do the trick. Just thought I would comment what has worked well for me. Thanks again for all the good info. Happy coloring!
I love this video, it was great and I learnrd a lot. I'm surprised the simple old cotton ball gave the lightest, smoothest effect. I will definitely be using more cotton balls. Up until now, I simply used a piece of soft cotton tee shirt fabric, wrapped around my index finger to blend eyeshadows and pastels, works pretty good except for the tiny spaces all pages have, I then go to a Q-tip. I'm sure cotton balls will be my "go to" blender from now on. Thanks so much, I really enjoyed your video, I watched every little bit of it! About to look for your other video's and am so anxious to see what you teach me next ♡
Ah, a fellow experiemental artist is here! Thanks for taking a moment to respond. I saw your second note about the pastel shavings as well - and yes, I learned that also with graphite! So much fun to play with the tools and see what quirky things they do and how we can utilize the oddity of a medium in our favor! Happy coloring! I'm glad you stopped by!
When colouring the flower at the end i personally thought the blender pen had the most perfect results keeping the exact shades of colour to perfection
There is another video I made that gives a much better instruction on water-soluble markers with completely different examples. check out this one to see if it works even better for you: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-z__yYx06Zp0.htmlsi=CfRX9uYg9_7ARhXx Or you can look up my video in my play list : How to Color with Water Soluble Markers.
I have a MUCH better videos on water based markers you should check out. It explains blenders a bit better, too. Keep exploring! Look at the Water Based Markers Video on my channel.
Such a valuable video, thank you 🙏 for sharing. I'm not familiar l with the Vaseline method at all: Will the Vaseline on the paper or will a residue stay "wet/damp" 🤔?
HI there...The vaseline won't leave the paper wet nor damp, you will want to use the minimal amount necessary because, like crayons and waxy pencils, the oils can absorb into the paper. They don't leave a ring, but I imagine over time or if left in the heat, the petroleum will show at some point. I haven't had a problem with using it occasionally. It can be used as a creative learning tool. However, for professional or commissioned items, I do not use vaseline products, I choose a solvent instead like Gamsol.
Thank you for sharing that was informative. My only concern was that the Vaseline might create a stained ring like when some gold markers do on a paper !
HI there...Funny, I just answered this for someone else! I know exactly what you mean with the weird halo with gold markers. The vaseline won't leave the paper wet nor damp, you will want to use the minimal amount necessary because, like crayons and waxy pencils, the oils can absorb into the paper.
That was a really informative video, so thank you. You have a superb teaching style for me and, as a relative newcomer to the marker party,, I learned a lot
Thanks! It certainly helps to connect to our tools a bit better if we slow down a bit! (My favorite way to sharpen a pencil is actually with an exacto blade. It's very old school, but there's something about manual blade sharpening with wood that really slows down and I pay much more attention to the wood/graphite or wood/colored center shape and sharpness).
Laser printers actually do a better job than inkjet printers from a quick Google search. There are waterproof inks and printers out there, but I don't have anything fancy (and have since upgraded my printer), so I'm guessing I had a laser printer when the video was made. Great question and attention to detail, Henrik.
Hi there, I like to combine watercolor, line drawings, and linocut print, and do digital clean-up when creating my surface designs (for items in my store and via my website). But if you are asking about which technique I use when blending colored pencils for coloring like the video shows, I use multiple colors together and then at the very end I might use Gamsol to soften it all. <-- I used this technique recently for a commissioned piece actually! But my favorite "just for fun" use is colored pencil and gel pen if I have the colors available.
Technique is a funny thing - in some ways, there is no wrong/right way to do something - and yet, when we figure out a way that makes things easier or brings out the result we are looking for it really opens our creative world to trying new things once we get the hang of something. Thank you for taking a moment to leave me a message! Happy Coloring!
