Adding more than 1/2 a turn is not worthwhile and has equal cons as pros. This is also in consideration that the springs have been installed awhile and are fatigued. Springs being excessively old is also a factor. The door is lighter from the bottom but now opens harder and puts more stress on the opener while opening after the halfway point and while closing until halfway down.
Excellent insight. Yes and reprogramming the limits and force settings will usually equalize that detail. After a certain amount of cycles the tension to the springs will ease up. The community appreciates your feedback.
Hate to admit it bc I can’t afford it and my door is down… but you absolutely pay for the knowledge for people like you.. I’m still gonna do it myself bc I have to but needing the info on the springs thank You
Some issues that caught my attention. 1. You said the door is meant to be balanced everywhere. Not true. The drums are made to have a large radius for the last foot of travel. This destroys the balance on that last foot of travel so the door falls. It is designed this way on purpose because some people do not have an opener attached to keep the door closed. This prevents gusts of winds from walking the door open if the door is in the closed position. Some European doors do not have drums to prevent the winds from opening the door but here in America they are almost always designed that way. 2. Springs are a bit strange. They are usually rated for a bit more than 10,000 cycles at 30 quarter turns. If you add four more turns you will be decreasing the spring life by almost half! So now those springs will only be getting about 6,000 cycles. It's probably better, economically, to have the opener which theoretically is rated for about 80,000 openings to do a little more work. 3. You sure you have to pre-drill those tek screws when reusing the existing holes?
Fascinating perspective! Personally I prefer balance at the three, five, and seven foot level of the door opening. This particular garage door had practically perfect balance opening and closing. The additional strut did not really throw off much but just at the 7 ft level. And the community truly appreciates your perspective on the Springs as well. I could see that happening on a spring that's rated for 10k. Additionally if you got good tech screws you shouldn't have to pre and drill through the strut. I just did it specifically for this video. Of course the caution is not to drill all the way through the door cuz that could be really bad.
Those that are in California, should buy it from out of state to get around stupid California law on battery requirement and safe themselves some money.
Installed Genie 7155 myself. Only issue is wifi. Specifically it will not work with repeater, also it will not work if your router security is set up as WPA 2/WPA3. it will only work with WPA2 or WPA
I watched your video on the Chamberlain B6753T but now there is a B6755T. What are your thoughts on the newer model? I do like the features you described on the liftmaster but it is a lot more expensive. Is there a newer model to the liftmaster 87504-267? Thanks! Great videos!
Great question! As of right now there has been no announcement of a new LiftMaster motor lineup. The newer model (B6755T) is virtually the same. I believe it just offers better wi-fi connectivity.
@@sosgds Thanks so much! I am looking to replace my Liftmaster 1250 Whisper Drive on a double 8' tall wooden door, so it is a heavy door. It has a solid T rail that I would like to keep it for the new opener but I can't find a new opener that also uses a T rail. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks so much!
@@ecrabbs8225 I would consider looking at the LiftMaster models. But I'm not 100% sure if a belt drive garage door opener would be a good fit. On the heavier wood doors I tend to go with a chain drive opener with an I-beam rail.
So this is for someone with no front door? It should also be noted that MyQ incompatibility has become so disliked that RatGDO is now backordered and new ways to work around the API lock have emerged. Does Chamberlain really think it can compete with Google and Home Assistant integration? I mean they literally shut off access to a million cars.
I will never buy a LiftMaster/Chamberlain product again. I was using the home assistant platform (open source/free) and tied MyQ into my home automation system so the garage door would open before I was right at my garage door through a geofence (Tasker - Android App) so I didn't have to wait at the door for it to open- something you can't do with a garage door opener because it won't send a signal that far. I tied it together with my cellphone via a VPN (Wireguard, open source/free) to my LAN and it would only work if my cellphone was connected to my car through Bluetooth so that if I was walking through the geofence or in someone else's car the garage door wouldn't open. After getting all of that to work together, it certainly was frustrating when it just quit working one day. There are workarounds such as Ratgdo as another user has already mentioned, but as you mentioned in your video, to take away something that worked after a bunch of customers are using it will definitely rub your customer base the wrong way so much so that some will not only leave, but start evangelizing against Chamberlain/Liftmaster as I have. To think that people will restructure/refactor their home automation system around a garage door opener is really the tail wagging the dog. There are so many substitutes and you are absolutely right about exposing your LAN to attacks (Recommend using VLANs as well as firewall rules to isolate devices and minimize the number APIs in your system that require internet access to work such as MyQ) Thank you for posting this video! I'm done venting now.
Hi, I'm looking for a really good opener , thats quiet , almost silent, and with a 1 piece rail preferbly , i really like the build of the Hormann opener but cant find a dealer in Fl. Can you recommend an opener that is the same quality?
Excellent question! For $700 installed? That's a steal. This operator in Southern California goes for about $895 on up to $1,200 depending on the height of your door and the configuration of your garage.
Won't buy another Chamberlain/Liftmaster product, and will trash their products on every social media platform I'm on every chance I get. They were happy to sell me the $70 Home Bridge, but they broke that functionality as well, even though they said they didn't. I called their support, and they said they no longer support the Apple Home integration even through the Home Bridge.
The worst engine tried to install the whole thing and then if it doesn’t work on the opener itself, it said do not return and if you try to call him one hour and a half to get in touch with them
Should I upgrade? I can see these as a replacement if my sensors are malfunctioning (I assume these replace the previous version and are the only ones now available), but if the old sensors are working, is there any point in "upgrading" them? You asked the question but didn't answer it.
I have watched every garage door video on the internet and it really boils down to one thing. YOU HAVE TO HIRE A GARAGE DOOR COMPANT TO GET A DECENT GARAGE DOOR OPENER. So if I can help anyone I would just say stop wasting your time watching all these videos and just call a company for a proline opener. I have seen some videos that recommend a certain opener only to look at online reviews that absolutely destroy them. One that you say is possibly the only big box opener the Genie 6172H that is the big box model of the 6170. The reviews on this opener say that the plastic gear in it never lasts and breaks in half making the opener useless. It is a crying shame that all these big box stores sell all this junk and just basically take advantage of the DYI homeowner leaving them with no good product they can install themselves. Even if you pay for the most expensive opener they sell like the Chamberlain Wall Mount RJ0101 the reviews suck. Everyone says the electronic board in it fails all the time. Just tell everyone to call a garage door company to end the misery of looking for a garage door opener.

Great question! In the manual there is no direction to change the speed but Genie does have a secret menu that might allow for it. You'd have to contact their customer service.
WAYNE DALTON DOORS= SHOES FROM WALMART🤣🤣🤣🤣No good door companies installs GARBAGE DOORS . I will not make excuses for a company who I’m not involved in. I take every opportunity to separate myself from the cheap door hacks that drive down prices and quality in the industry. If a man can look you in the eye and sell you a Wayne dalton and a genie, they are an idiot or a hack
It's funny you bring up the 'shoes from WalMart'. WalMart sells millions of them each year. I can see your point about that reference as it pertains to Wayne Dalton. Like Genie they are a multi million dollar company that continues to grow in sales. Keep fighting the good fight my friend! The community appreciates your tenacious feedback.
Great question. Clopay does not offer an equivalent to the 9100. I would say the Clopay door is better in quality. If I were to consider a Wayne Dalton garage door I would choose the 8670.
@@sosgds Thanks for the reply! I work for a gate/garage door company on the gates side of things, so I’m still trying to familiarize myself with doors. We handle a huge portion of new-build construction in my state and it’s always interesting seeing what products builders choose. Doesn’t seem to be any consistency either. For instance, one Toll Brothers (“luxury” homes builder) community will use Wayne Dalton/Genie, and another community by the same builder will have Clopay/LiftMaster.
@@markmccloskey23 That's interesting. We have builders that do the same here. We see more 9100 model doors than other doors manufactures. Wayne Dalton has a big market share is California. Of course, the 9100 is a builders door and is not their best door. Thanks for your feedback!
