Oh my you will ABSOLUTELY LOVE Liberty ❤ ❤ I have made just a few quilts with Liberty fabrics and they are wonderful. The fabrics are so soft 🥰 I hope you do get to go 🤞🤞I only get to go now and again but just being there, looking at the fabrics, is am AMAZING 🎉
Oh yes. Sometimes comments are useful, but in the end this how I made it. I'm stubborn. I will take quilt judges comments somewhat seriously. Or my favorite RU-vid people, Amy! But I figure that I surpassed that "D" as a freshman in high school, my first art class. They didn't have fiber arts! What was I getting at? I can critique my self silly, however, the more I change something on a quilt, the more frustrated I become. I put it down, come back later with an even better idea. You are wonderful! Thank you, Amy! Marion
I love your videos and am always excited when I see that you have posted a new one! I am especially thankful to see this video, because I have been collecting purple and green fabrics to make a string quilt like the one on your wall, even the red polka dot fabric too! I am a scrappy quilt lover, and string quilts are such fun quilts to make. I have made a couple of square string quilts (one paper pieced and one without a foundation). I mistaking bought a bolt of off white cotton/poly fabric that I will now use for foundation for future string quilts. Had I not watched your video, I would not have realized that I need to use a rectangular shaped foundation. Glad to hear that you are doing so well since your hip surgery. BTW, I live in Cartersville, GA. (Doris Bishop)
EQ8 seems like an awesome program. Is there any app on the Apple iPad that you would recommend for planning a quilt. I recently bought a panel that I love called “sew on” and I would love to play with quilt ideas around a panel. Thank you.
Not a quilting book, but the history of fabric, from spinning, to weaving, to dying, to marketing. Fascinating book, well written, and easy to read. by Virginia Postrel, 2020.
Hi Amy it’s my first time watching you and I’m loving it. I’m Wales we have McMillan (spelt wrongly) I know we’ll all GB have it going on I think I will make some of these up. Can’t wait to see what else you do. Thanks and hugs xxx
Thanks for these suggestions! I have SO many ideas, but my OCD continues to hold me back. I just ordered Color Play and Quilts and Health. Can’t wait to read them!
OCD and others are difficult challenges indeed. I hope you find life tools that allow you to be creative in your own way! Thanks so much for watching. I’m glad you’re here.
I love your chats! The Dressmakers of Auschwitz was so fantastic! Started reading it after work one day and couldn’t put it down until the end. I have always been teased about making my own clothing and that time in history. That was the only way those women could survive. Should be required reading for high school history/home arts classes so the next generations can appreciate knowing how to clothe themselves can be lifesaving! Thank you again for a wonderful chat!
Loved your reviews. Thanks for introducing so many wonderful books. My wish list grows😊. I found the last copy of A People and Their Quilts on a used book site and it’s on its way to me. Can’t wait!
Great video! Ive never heard of some of these quilt artists….thanks Amy!🧵🖼️ You have such a gift of empathy and compassion thank you for bringing ideas to our craft!❤
So I sourced the little quilts book after you talked about it wayyy back in the beginning of your channel, found it super cheap 2.50. Came to learn there is whole series of the little quilt books ..😅 so of course my OCD that I needed to have the complete set kicked in .. I will be sending u a bill 😅
I use one like this that screws into my machine bed and is adjustable. amzn.to/3BjXC2q If your machine bed doesn’t have a place for that I hear good things about the magnetic guides.
Hi Amy! Love it when you share all these books and include all the links for us! After watching your first book review, I read American Quilts Below the Radar by Kiracofe(AMAZING!). Then I found & still reading The American Quilt, a History of Cloth and Comfort 1730-1950 by Kiracofe, which I highly recommend. Wanted to let you know I found The Improv Handbook for Modern Quilters on Kindle Unlimited a couple of weeks ago…read it in two evenings…really good. Just purchased, per your recommendation People and Their Quilts and Quilts a Living Tradition…can’t wait to read! Plus, during my search, I found Twisted-Modern Quilts with a Vintage Twist…looks interesting! Another recommendation I have for you is one I heard on a Karen Brown podcast with Kassie St. Clair, The Golden Thread, How Fabric Changed History (available on audible so you can sew while you listen). In addition, The Indigo Girl by Natasha Boyd takes place in 1739 in South Carolina 16 year old daughter is asked to take over her father’s property so he can pursue military goals and she decides to start growing indigo crops…a really good read/listen also! Thanks! I so appreciate you! ❤
I have been staring at my quilt books wanting to cut down what I have, but your list didn’t help! Actually I do like what you said about realizing to which books spark your creativity the most. I do have many of the books you mentioned, but enjoyed seeing “new “ books. And thank you for all the links. Now to make more room😊
Fun to live funky pieced quilts and more abstract designs… can’t wait to see ya make some of those! I love your hair before and after … and in the middle lol!!! Love your vids and your energy!😊
I am a 75 year old quilter with straight fine hair that I had never coloured until I hit 70! Then I went for a violet coloured Tint! It was the best move ever and so rejuvenating. Wherever I go complete strangers tell me they love my hair colour. I have short hair cut by my hair stylist who does my colouring as well. Last week was my colouring day and she ran out of the pink so I now have purple hair. My menfolk didn't like me to wear makeup because I had beautiful skin and didn't need it which was just aswell because even moisturiersabd anti allergy brands give me all kinds of issues. I'm told I'm bohemian which I find hard to believe because most of my life I've been pretty conservative.
Love it when you share the books you especially love. It’s impossible to see all of them no matter how many places we search, so it’s good to see the ones others like.
I had to order 'A People and Their Quilts. I'm familiar with John Rice Irwin and my people from both parents' sides are from Appalachia and the Smoky Mtns. This was a must have!
I have to laugh when you mention Gwen Marston's name. A friend asked me to finish a quilt that she started with her daughter's friend- who unfortunately passed away before it was completely pieced. I got the top together, but knew it should be machine quilted by someone who knew what she was doing. So my friend said that her husband's cousin offered to do it. I hoped that it would be well done -after all of the effort and emotion that was already invested in it. I stopped at a quilt shop and bought a paper pieced quilts book and went to drop off the quilt top. When I showed the book to my friend, she looked at the quilter's name and picture. .. to exclaim that it was Bill's cousin (Gwen Marston)'s book!!! Of course this would be professionally done! Woohoo!
One of my favorite quilt books or series is The Quiltmakers Gift by Jeff Brumbeau with pictures by Gail de Marcken. The story is simple yet meaningful. Also The Quiltmakers Journey. With the story books are Quilts from the Quiltmakers Gift and More Quilts from the Quiltmakers Gift. They are so fun as they show groups choosing project and participation by all ages. And I still have some of the co,panini fabric in my stash!
My current “thing” is house blocks. I got Freddie’s book and Pin Cut Sew’s pattern and I’m off. Making all the variations. Even huts. I’m sure it will take a while but it’s so fun.
I just started! I needed a handwork project so I’m doing it all with templates and hand piecing. Something about the presentation seemed right for that sort of process.
