Awesome film, guys! I'm envious of the quality of production and vibe you managed to portray as a utuber myself! Unfortunately, my obsession spans over several species of coarse and game fish, so there's no break from it for me! I'll look into Mr Gilbraith's work with interest! Good to see the majesty of our northern rivers promoted too! Well done 👍👍👍
I have a story about a similar fellow though, here it is. My close fishing friend knew of a group of anglers who went up every year to the north of Scotland, in there party was a very old boy who had been shot up in the war, he insisted on salmon fishing though it hurt, he couldn’t walk properly, would link arms with a young man, who walked him out into the pool, and them would leave him for some time, before he was moved on, a bit like being a Chess Piece on a watery version of that game. Now that’s grit. Different person, different generation, same angler. Good show.
Very interesting but to me salmon fishing is over now, and I don’t want to hassle a fish in such a dramatic struggle to survive what man has done to them and the environment.
I'm from the ribble and started 3 months ago salmon fishing Everything you have just said is bang on! It's an obsession morning day night. Fantastic I'm sure I'll bump into you at some point! It's a small community Best wishes Mark kellett
Having read all of his three books, this was a total treat. I'm just starting after the salmon this season and it's all down to your books. Thanks for making it Damon. Cheers
Well Damon you so captured Hooked on Hope! Boo is so charismatic, and his books are fabulous! As a northener currently living and working in Nova Scotia I'm now massively homesick, and want to walk the bank with Boo and watch him cast. Fabulous Mate!
Steelheading here in the PNW is exactly the same. I tell my friends that are trying to get into it you can’t dabble in steeleading, you must be fully committed and obsessed to become successful. This is my favorite part of it all. It’s not for everyone and I like it that way.
My fishing pal just sent me this. I'm sat in work absolutely bored to tears. I'm all fired up now and ready to fish again after watching this. There's not a truer word spoken when he says he looks forward to the season ending and then can't wait for it to start again! The misery and pain we all put ourselves through but we wouldn't change a thing. I'll definitely be picking up your book. Many thanks.
You really caught me! Beautiful film. The real goal of "salmon fishing"; sense of beauty, aesthetic and, most of all, nature respect. I'm obsessed too from the early 1981. My first scots leaper. Hope to find your book into italian language, maybe I'll find some answers too. Or not? Thanks
Great film, it really encapsulates the wider aspects of why we fish, not just salmon. James always comes across really well when he’s been on Fly Culture, through his podcast and books and it’s great that you made this film. All the best with your various other projects going forward, Damon.
Enjoyed watching that, very enjoyable. I may be mistaken but did I see Dave Jacko Jackson in the images of the group fishing at Stocks. Was a dear friend of mine, we fished on the Aberdeenshire Dee many times together! Sadly he is no longer with us RIP my friend!
I invited him to join us on the Junction Pool on the Tweed, he drove up from Nelson early am I think is where he lived and within ten minutes he had a fish in the net!
One of the best films about salmon fishing I have ever seen. This is the spirit. Much rather than lifting salmon after salmon in slow-motion out of the water... Thanks!
Cracking film. Boo is rapidly becoming a hero to me. The yanks might have trout bums, we have salmon boos. I’m going to make a point of watching this on repeat whilst skiving from work. I think Boo and his Lanky posse will approve!!!
Brilliant, i really enjoyed that thanks, spoken from the heart about a passion that so few could ever understand or get to experiance. Tightlines for 2024 👍
