I don't know whether or not you are aware that Simon and Garfunkel, in no way, wrote this song. Yes...they performed it beautifully. However, the song goes WAY, way back... It is a traditional English folk song from the Middle Ages, referring to an old fair in Scarborough, Yorkshire, which was a market fair (comprised of traders, merchants and other vendors) that started sometime in the 14th century and persisted until the 18th century. The lyrics talk about unrequited love. A young man requests impossible tasks from his lover, saying that if she can perform them, he will take her back. In return, she requests impossible things of him, saying she will perform her tasks when he performs his. It's quite possible that the tune was derived from a Scottish song called "The Elfin Knight" (Child Ballad No. 2), wherein an elf kidnaps a woman and tells her that, unless she can do these impossible things, he will keep her as his lover. Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme... The use of the herbs "parsley, sage, rosemary, and thyme" in the lyrics has been debated and discussed. Nobody really knows. However, herbalists will tell you that there has long been symbolism regarding the functions of many different herbs in healing and health maintenance. There's also a possibility that these meanings were added very intentionally, as the song evolved (parsley for comfort or to remove bitterness, sage for strength, thyme for courage, rosemary for love). Also, there's some speculation that these four herbs were once used in a tonic of some sort to remove curses. When I was 14 (in late 1964), I started a small folk band (just three of us girls) in Valdez, Alaska. We sang a LOT of songs from other folk artists of the time, but we ALSO sang a lot of the folk songs that we grew up with. This was one of our standards. For those who remember, Renat Gaissin, who composed this song, is the author of the song "Qairam Elim" (2020) whose video was directed by Dimash himself and was the winning song for an audience choice on the American MTV in 2020 (Renat Gaissin appears in the video playing the piano). He also made together with Dimash the instrumental song "River Of Love", where Dimash plays dombra, a Kazakh folk instrument, and the song “Omir Oter”
You should watch the version of Amen which she recorded with the Ndlovu youth choir about a week before. They are a zulu group from a different part of South Africa, they sing in their native language in the video, and wear traditiobal costume, its quite spectacular and Amiea us stunning. The Mzansi have performed with Amira several times, you can watch them sing Little Drummer Boy together.
Great! You're absolutely right, Kaggwa. The scene is reminiscent of Paul Simon and the Ladysmith Black Mambazo choir in 2007, singing “Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes”. Last year, Amira received the Anti-Racism Award in South Africa.

From left to right, Bae DooHoon, Kang HyungHo (from Forestella), Zo HyungGyun (from Edel Reinklang), and Han Tain (from Miraclass). Forestella also sang this song in their concert.
2 of the original Forestella members were not in this performance. Ko Woorim and Cho Mingyu are missing. This was a part of the contest which eventually saw the current ( and BEST!) formation of the group take place.
