Hello, great tutorial! Do you know if there's a way to perform a "partial restore" of just one program from the factory settings (or whatever backup file I own)? I accidentally overwrote just that Program, meanwhile I also created new Programs on the keyboard, so if I just restore the factory settings, these new Programs would be deleted, right? In the lack of an alternative, I could Upload the new Programs (or maybe making a Bundle) to my PC, then restore to factory settings, and then Download the saved Programs... Is there a more straightforward way (I have a Stage 2 EX)? Thank you in advance and congratulations for the great tutorials!

Do you have a video of connecting Roli Seaboard Block M to Nord Stage 3?
@MyKeysToMusic
@MyKeysToMusic День назад
@dannielsen7094 Hello Dan! Thanks for your request. Unfortunately, I don't have a video for the Roli Seaboard. I owned one of these for a short while, but at the time, support for the Bluetooth to NS3 via MIDI wasn't ready for prime time (or perhaps I wasn't ready for it). Once you get the MIDI connection setup (I would use WIDI products for this), you'll want to match MIDI channels between the Roli and the Nord. On the Stage 3, make sure the CC control change is set to receive. Then, you'll use the Roli dashboard to assign the CC numbers to Stage 3 where appropriate (see the Nord manual for a complete list of CC numbers to control various aspects of your keyboard). Keep in mind that with the Roli video demos you see on their website, they are using "modeled instruments" from Swam and others, which provide for real-time expression controlling synthesized sounds (not samples) - that end up sounding ultra-realistic. The NS3 doesn't really have this capability when playing samples. It does when you are playing a straight synth sound. So, your mileage may vary on what you'll ultimately be able to do with a connected NS3. You might get some nice expression out of the synth, but it won't magically make your trumpet samples sound realistic. For realistic and expressive acoustic instruments such as strings, horns, etc, you'll need to connect the Roli to a computer running software like SWAM (as their videos demonstrate). This would make a good video topic to explore in order to see exactly how far we Nord keyboardists could go with a Roli because it offers a LOT of nice features in a small controller. It reminds me of the Expressive E Touché but in the form of a keyboard. Good luck!

If you're wondering about the Bennie And The Jets chord, it's actually an interesting story. The Fmaj7 at the top was a total accident in the studio, Elton just happened to come in a bar early. But it got Gus Dudgeon to thinking that it SOUNDED like he was cueing a band. So, he decided to make the studio version a fake live recording, and he added in the crowd noise and the slap/verb. Then, when Elton DID play it live, he often started with that chord as a joke. Kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy.

@NoodlesEaton Hey Gloria, thanks for your comment. Well, I'm somewhat embarrassed to say that today was my first time listening to "The Big Hurt." But I'm amazed that a song that directly flanges exists in the world-I would have never believed it had I not heard that just now. I learned something new today!! And it's a half-decent song, too, by the way. True story: I used to work for Patti Page (teaching her technology and doing computer stuff for her Maple Syrup business). So I think Toni Fisher is kind of in the same time period with a similar style (for the most part). I have a deep appreciation for that era, yet my exposure to limited at best. I'm also awestruck how both ladies were innovators in their day - Toni with the phasing effects and Patti with her claim to be the first to do overdubs ahead of Les Paul. 🎶

Many thanks, super clear, and for me very much NEEDED. 1 comment, it all works as you say, but when I make the changes in Program Mode, e.g. Synth to Channel 4, Synth goes to channel; 4 AND Piano stays in 1-2, BUT the Nord Display says the Piano is going to channel 4 , even though it does not. Anyone else got this ???
@MyKeysToMusic
@MyKeysToMusic 25 дней назад
@BonzoBall0 Hello Andy! Thanks for your comment. So, you may be misinterpreting the display. If I understand you correctly, when you are in the system settings on the page for assigning the output routing, the middle column that says "Sub" allows you to pick a single sub destination (third column). So if you have it set for Synth on output 4, and then you toggle it to say Piano, it will also say 4 because you can only assign one at a time and it thinks you want to switch the sub from Synth to Piano. (You can have only one sub at a time). So, the 4 remains in the third column as you're switching the engines in the middle column. If that's what you're referring to, then I can see why that would be misleading. Hopefully, I'm seeing what you're seeing. If not, feel free to ask again in a different way.

Hi marc, I tried this with a Alesis vortex wireless 2 (keytar) but it does not work. If I use the bender the midi light lights up, so it is receiving the signal, but there is no pitchbend happening. I set global midi to “Off” and ExtKb to “2”. What could be the problem? Could this have something to do with the software version (Mine uses v2.12)Thanks in advance.
@MyKeysToMusic
@MyKeysToMusic 25 дней назад
@tim55960 Hey Tim! Well, as luck would have it, I, too, own an Alesis Wireless Vortex 2. I tried it just now, and everything seems to work! Let's triple-check the following steps: 1) Be sure you know which MIDI channel the Alesis is sending out on. Mine was set to channel 2 (likely from the last time I configured it). Also be aware that the Alesis can send pitch bend on a different channel than the notes - so you may have a simple issue whereby your MIDI for pitch bend isn't matching that of step 3 below. 2) In the Electro MIDI Settings, turn the Global to off or a channel that is NOT the same as the Alesis. 3) In the Electro MIDI settings, turn the ExtKb MIDI to the same channel as the Alesis. 4) Put the Electro into "Extern to Low" mode 5) Turn your Synth engine on and set it to the LOW zone only. Your pitch bend should work. Things to be aware of: a. Global MIDI doesn't support pitch bend in any capacity. External to Low is the only way this works. b. The only engine that supports pitch bend is the synth engine. This won't work for Piano or Organ (no matter how you set it up). My Nord Electro is running OS v2.64 and I believe my Alesis is running version 1.1.5 Good luck!

@MyKeysToMusic
@MyKeysToMusic 25 дней назад
@pianopoly6219 You should be able to use any DAW (free or paid) to make the piano sounds, and then the Chordie App should be able to read the MIDI coming from the keyboard on its way to the DAW. There are many to choose from, and a simple search should bring up something. Be sure to add your OS in the search so you can find one for your computer, of course. Not all DAWs work cross-platform.

Only +/- 2 semitones? Why?
@MyKeysToMusic
@MyKeysToMusic 25 дней назад
@antoniomonteiro1203 Nord pre-wired the pitch bend options to be hard-coded to +/-2 semitones. The fact that it's so limited like this is a question for the manufacturer-I have no idea. The only thing I can think of is that severely clipping the wings of the Nord Electro 6, it leaves room for people to upgrade to a Stage 4 or a Wave 2. If one purchases a Nord keyboard with a full synth engine, then they get the actual pitch stick along with the option to adjust the pitch range beyond the standard +/- 2 semitones.

if a stage piano/synthesizer has an audio interface, is there no need for an external audio interface? is it possible to record from midi to audio only with a usb cable? thank you
@MyKeysToMusic
@MyKeysToMusic 25 дней назад
@panteliskaramatsoukis3951 Yes, some keyboards have a built-in audio interface on the keyboard itself. That means it can send audio out directly to the computer digitally (via the USB cable). (None of the Nord keyboards can do this by the way as of this writing). MIDI can run over a traditional 5 PIN Din MIDI cable or a USB cable direct to a computer. So yes, it's very possible to record your MIDI strictly using the USB cable connected to a computer. Most keyboard or keyboard controllers made today have accommodations for a USB out to a computer for MIDI purposes. I have seen some keyboards that require you to designate the USB to be used either for MIDI OR audio but not both at the same time. That's one thing to be aware of when you're setting all this up.
@awakenyoursong
@awakenyoursong Месяц назад
Am I right in thinking you created the loops and then played a lot of freestyle piano over - so how do you record the entire composition ?
@MyKeysToMusic
@MyKeysToMusic Месяц назад
@awakenyoursong You are correct. The Boss Loop Station records the loop parts, and I play over the top. The computer records the entire piece (both the keyboard and the sound coming from the loop station) through an audio interface (the Focusrite Scarlett 18I8). Of course, I'm recording with a camera as well. The program I use to record the audio on the computer is called "ScreenFlow," a Mac-based video recording/editing software that automatically allows for track separation with the Focusrite. On a related side-note, here is a video on how one can use GarageBand to record music on the computer, and it explains the basic setup I'm using for this video using GarageBand instead of ScreenFlow: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UU6j5o3YfaA.htmlfeature=shared

hello do you need to install the driver for your external instrument for Logic Pro X to recognize it?
@MyKeysToMusic
@MyKeysToMusic Месяц назад
@Ifaroki That all depends on if the external instrument is Core Audio/Core MIDI compliant (better known as "plug and play"). Some devices (especially older ones) may need a driver supplied by the manufacturer. Most MIDI-compatible instruments (especially those with a USB out to USB In on the computer) won't require a driver installation. Do a Google Search or an AI search for your instrument to see what turns up when you ask this question. All late-model Nord keyboards don't require a separate driver installation to communicate with most MIDI-compatible software applications running on MacOS.

Nevertheless it’s a good revision and tells me to subscribe to the channel. What I don’t quite understand is the fact that the notes in the notation seem to fit to the bars although you didn’t use the metronome. How can that be? Normally it must be played to the metronome and even quantized for the notes to be sitting correctly, or am I wrong? Looking forward to watching other videos of yours … Thanks a lot!

But, as an anxious man that I am, I decided to try an little experience this afternoon. See: So, studing a little about the "half-damping" mecanism from sustain pedals, I learned today that it has a pontenciometer inside. Ok. It's the way that they go from 0 to 100 (totaly analogic). Second step: I have a Yamaha VP50sT, a volume pedal, that I use to control the organ, often plugging it to "organ swell". Well, it uses a "y cable"that has a Stereo P10 in the side that entries at NS4. VP50sT uses a internal potenciometer to. Oh my God! I thinked "Hey, if it has the same internal mecanism and the same conexion, maybe... YES! I pluged the VP50sT on NS4 (sustain jack) and EUREKA: it worked as a half-damping pedal. How Nice! In other words: A Yamaha VP50xT (volume pedal) is a kind of a Nord Sustain Pedal 2 without a spring!!! So, I think that, when my Roland DP10 bring at my home, it will function perfectly as a half-damping pedal at NS4. Well. Sorry the thousands of words, but I think that is a good new to share with you. When I have the DP10 at my hands, I will be back here again to talk about! Thanks from Campina Grande, Brazil.

Great video, thanks! I'm trying to recreate this on my NS4 but can't seem to figure out how to assign the pitch control to the control pedal as you did here on the NS3. Any tips on this?

@cowgerbry Hey Bryan, I have yet to find a way to do this with the pedal (or any morph control) since that relies on an oscillator configuration to adjust pitch against a static waveform for the NS3. Therefore, I'm using the pitch-to-envelope setting to make the THX sound happen over a fixed amount of time using the envelope (instead of the pedal). In other words, I simply hold the notes on the NS4 and the pitch moves. To make life easier, I just uploaded this sound for the NS4 on my Patreon shop if you want to save yourself a bunch of time recreating this from scratch or if you simply want to download it to use as a learning reference. You can find the downloadable sound here: www.patreon.com/MyKeysToMusic/shop/thx-sound-deep-note-ns4-268150?Link& Good luck!
