Happy to hear this Christopher! Do you own a Nord Wave 2?

Be great if you could do a video on creating custom patterns in the Appegiator.

@marvintheandroid100 Hey David! You might be a good candidate to enroll in my master class called: "Master the Nord Wave 2" found at www.MyKeysToMusic.com In the course, I have dedicated lesson for the Arp and go over the pattern setup step, by step. In the meantime, although I don't explain how to set up the pattern here specifically, it's an excellent example of how the pattern arp on the Wave 2 can be used to pull off a complex song like this one from Erasure: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-GmoI9K9jMCs.htmlfeature=shared

Noticed you have your levels maxed out. Is that for the best signal to noise ratio? Do you control the volume with a pedal, a mixer, a monitor, or run it into your computer through an audio interface / software recorder before monitors?

Hi @Eugene Bird, another great question here - thank you. So for the specific purposes of these videos, I crank the volume every time. That's only because I'm using a Focusrite Scarlett interface connected to the "line in" jacks in the back. These jacks provide no additional gain on the volume so I end up having to crank the volume on the Nord to help compensate. Even with that, I have to further increase the volume in my video editing software I use (ScreenFlow). In a live performance situation, however, I'd start the volume at between 50% and 75% instead. Now, if I was to connect my Nord to the front of the Focusrite instead of the back, the front has pre-amps, and in this case, I'd set the level to about 50%; otherwise, you may introduce distortion with your recordings. So, the bottom line is that without a preamp feature in your audio interface, you'll want to crank the volume of your Nord when recording. FYI I believe most audio interfaces have a pre-amp built-in (but you'll have to research that and/or experiment with the one you have). To control the volume during a performance, I use a control pedal connected to the "Swell Pedal" jack in the back which allows me to control the volume for the entire keyboard across all programs. If however, I need to control the volume to a particular passage in a particular song, I'd assign a "morph" to that engine and adjust the volume that way. This allows you to do things like weave your string pads in and out while your piano engine continuously sounds for example. So, ideally, it's best to get two control pedals (one connected to the control pedal jack for general morphing individual programs and another connected to the swell pedal jack for general volume across all programs). Here is an affiliate link to the control pedal I use: Yamaha FC7 Control/Expression Pedal: amzn.to/2DxcLy7 They have been rock-solid and in heavy use since 2017...

@@MyKeysToMusic Thank you for the kind answer! When I discovered the Yamaha MX-88 I bought for $1000 had an extremely low output, forcing me to use a preamp, I got a Nord Electro 6 and started watching your channel. I have a Focusrite for the interface and bought the Beat Buddy on your recommendation and was pleased! I appreciate your teaching and when I buy the Wave 2 sometime in the next 6 months (maybe today) I will use your Sweetwater affiliate link, And if I don't I will send you some $$ on Patreon. YOU ARE A REAL STAR!

Stranger Things theme- If you go to I:51 “80’s Dream Split” or I:11 “Wave of 89” and play a low C Major, adjust the BPM and mess around with the filters a bit…..

Hi, thanks for this. Do you know of any arp plugin that offers the same sort of polyphonic support?

Hi @Tim Beckwith - I'm not an expert in this area, but in the brief research that I did do just now, it seems that "ARPG8R" seems to have good reviews and an easy-to-use interface as well.

@@MyKeysToMusic thanks, I have tried that but have noticed that when in trigger mode, the octave sitting is ignored which is a shame. This is true for the various other arps I have. As I am primarily interested in recording, I might be able to get the result I'm interested in getting by multitracking a Mono arp using different chord inversions for each track.

@@nineteenuk I was not aware that while in trigger mode, the octaves are ignored - that's disappointing. I like your idea about multi-tracking a monophonic synth. Once you have the MIDI sequence, it's easy to copy/paste it to other tracks. Although I see this as a lot of work to initially setup, the end result should be terrific and provide you with the ultimate flexibility since you'd have access to all the "musical chromosomes" for every single note. Interesting!

@@MyKeysToMusic I've had a quick go at this in Logic. There's some very interesting rhythms coming out of this but also very unpredictable!! One trick I found is to have multiple copies of a track each with different arp settings and timings. You can enable all tracks to record from the same MIDI controller. Nice but results are hard to predict!

@@MyKeysToMusic to clarify, the octaves are ignored on the ARPG8R. I like how it works on the Wave2 and now I guess Stage 4. I have a stage 3 but l don’t intend to upgrade!
