All the low cg and light handling comments by experienced riders can be misleading to beginners who are looking at this as their first bike; it feels lighter when ridden, but for me a 180cm rider I can't flat foot it when doing zero speed handling and have to keep a wide stance when walking it, in those scenarios it feels twice as ponderous as a 125cc bike, even though on paper it isn't that much heavier. If you are a new rider and only intend to ride in cities, I would recommend a 125cc,150cc or an ultralight motorcycle like the cb300r, with those you can even pop the front wheel over curbs for quickie parking spots.
excellent, informative review. I bought this bike a month ago and getting used to it and love it, similar height/weight and find the centre-stand quite a struggle compared to the ease with which you set it. Needs a little backwards momentum to get it on CS on mine. Wind protection from the screen is the only weak point on an otherwise cracking bike which is great value. It's my first non-sportsbike for a long time (S1000RRs previously) and find it all useable power on the 900XR. Keep up these excellent practical review videos
Man, I missed you. And your short person pov. It helped a lot and means a lot for us short riders. It felt like you represent us! Saw you react 1 year ago. Means, you still handle this account. Idk your situation but I hope to see your upload again.
this video is great! i belong to the short people and was looking for a video just like this. Just because I wanted to see if I could get the S1000xr for my height! your video was enlightening thank you so much! I signed up keep it up and thanks for the content!
Im 5,5 and have shorter legs than you, i could not get it off the stand sitting on it but it did have a full height seat, had i known the seat could be dropped i may have bought it, great value for money on the used market
Hi, Yes because I have short legs I could easily push back to the seat and stretch my legs and feet. The MPG was around 75mpg average, sometimes lower or higher depending on riding style .
During my ride I didn’t notice any issues during taking corners, albeit, I didn’t do extreme knee on ground turns. Maybe it will be an issue on race tracks

Sadly I didn’t get to buy anything as my personal circumstances dramatically went topsy turvy😫. Not sure when I can get back to a good footing, although getting there slowly.
I just ordered XR M package low seat I may need to get some cushioning done to it once I get it Thanks for your response

Did you happen to have a chance to try one with the low seat also? I have heard the low seat is not very comfortable but it gives a decent amount of extra reach to the ground.
Hi, no I haven’t had the opportunity to try different seats, although I would not say that this seat is particularly comfortable- the wide edges on both sides rub against the inner thigh bones😬
Always LOVED the look and wanted a 2006 speed triple- FINALLY found one not to far from my crib so I went to check it out. It felt like a refrigerator on a ladder. I’m a short rider 5’10 and it was very evident that it would not just be hard to ride -it would be impossible! It felt like my feet were 1ft or more off the ground. I was so disappointed
Hi , I had the same experience in trying to put the bike on the center stand. I test drove one and it was a great bike , but just didn’t thrill. I think I like the new Aprilia 660 better. I always wanted an MV Agusta though. They may come out with new bikes this year though. Thanks for your review.
Thanks - good review of riding/manoeuvring from a short rider perspective. I'm the same height and also wear the M Star boots. I know the GS is a big bike but it may be manageable. I think the suspension design is fantastic. With the latest ones, setting preload to auto sorts the backend regardless of rider weight. On my F800GT, I'm not heavy enough to get enough sag and the bike never feels well balanced. I'm also considering the F750GS as long as I can fit the standard bike with ESA.
Good to hear you’re opinion on this bike and I understand where your coming from, I’ve just bought the 890 adv s so I’ll let you know my options after 400 miles:- the screen I have changed to the r version with a small adjustable screen fixed to it that stopped buffeting, the seat after so long feels better, the front wheel I don’t understand because I’ve had my bike on the edge of my tires on the twisty roads, im 5’8” inseam 30” and I can get both feet down comfortably. I don’t get false neutral. Ktm’s. are hit or miss bikes lucky to get a good one, unlucky to get a bad one. I do have some issues with mine but im still happy with it, keep up the good work
Hi, thank you for your very informative real-life video. I’m 170cm « tall » (5 foot 7). I used to ride a R1250GS for a couple of years, loved it but at the end I got fed up with how difficult it was for me to manhandle the bike once loaded when not moving, even pulling her up from the side stand at the petrol station. I always wanted the S1000XR but found the bike too tall. After reading some compairisons, I noticed that many journalists thought that the Ninja 1000SX was a good and less expensive alternative. I bought one second hand and have been touring with it during the last two years. I love it, specially the engine and I must say that the bike fits me like a glove. But out of sheer curiosity and also because I still fancy the s1000xr, you have experience on both bikes, how would the engine characteristics and the ergonomics compare? Kind regards
Hi David, Thanks for watching and I am glad you found it useful. Unfortunately due to changes in my personal life things didn’t go according to my plan so had to put off buying for a while.
@@InfusedBiker well I’m picking mine versus 2022 registered 2023 model next week. I see you tested one bacons Motorcycles that’s where I’m picking mine up from so if you’re local would be glad to come round and show you my bike. And if you wanted to have a blast and see what you feel. Dave
@@SuperGizzzmo wow, congratulations David. I hope you have lots of enjoyment and happy memories. I would loved to have joined you but due to circumstances I mentioned I had to move away from the area. Anyway wish you have long trouble free riding 😁 Safe riding
