I might make another video some day, but the only buttons used are right there at the screen, nothing else. You can also slow the video down, or just pause at each step and follow along with yours.
Why didn't Yaesu make the function programmable on the face? SWR.. check PWR...check even the notch can go front side. We even got some sorta band scope. What about mode? We didn't think that was important enough to go top side? Love my 891. It is a lot of rig in such a tiny package. But a few little things would have made this radio so much more. I feel like Yaesu always came up short on the software end of things. Memory and firmware layout always seemed odd. I always tossed it in the bin of "Lost in translation" but I wonder if it's just the bear minimum to get it done. Far from bias. I'm a sick man I own them all. Love my Yaesu's like I love my Icom's.. Just another radio ✌
Okay, this was a very interesting. You showed push this, touch that, to do this and to do that. But what you did not show was what you touched or turned to change the settings, You only showed the screen and how the settings affect the screen but what knob or button did you touch or turn and where are they located on the radio? This would have turned a good video into a great one. Or at least for me it would have. Then again I am an older operator and at 7.3 decades of age am not the fastest kid on the block! Thank for the info you shared now to dig a little deeper to figure out how to make these settings. 73
I own a 7300 and I use a RTL-SDR dongle with SDR++... I can say I can make the waterfall display look exactly the same as with SDR++... except for the scope's bandwith (max 1MHz with the 7300 and around 2MHz-ish with the RTL-SDR and SDR++)
Great video, I just bought a 7300 and haven’t had time to unbox it and your demo of all its capabilities has reaffirmed my choice to buy this radio. It’s truly amazing the capabilities of a $1000 radio today as opposed to the top of the line radios when I first got my license in 1970.
Is just a old generic rtl tv receiver. I used to prefer them, the crystal oscillator was more stable. It's surface mount so maybe a better spec I'm not sure. They used to be like 5- 10 dollars. Looking around the other day I didn't even see any online line it other than the Nooelec stuff
Auto Hide 9:35. When you turned on auto hide then hit meter it completely covered the scope. Mine doesn't; it covers the waterfall but still leaves the scope at the top showing the line. ???
Thanks for the information. Helped me set up the display the way I like it. I love the Icom 7300. I have the Yaesu FT-991A, the Yaesu FT-710 and now the Icom IC-7300. I like the programming of the Icom's better, but I will say that the noise floor on the Yaesu FT-710 is quieter, especially after I did the firmware update. They are all three great radios.
I've not used the 710 yet, but heard a lot of good stuff. I'd love to try one out though, maybe this year. As for the Icom noise floor, it might help to eq the RX ssb audio in the menu. Cut the highs a bit with the treble. I do that, and use the NR on 1 and it seems to help. I wish the knob radios had a AGC-T setting like some of the SDRs, allowing you to knock back the sound of the noise floor but any signal that pops over is still loud.
Combine the 2 tones together and the receiver has been zero beat. Older radios required warming the tubes and stabilizing the oscillator before zero beat could be achieved. It used to be interesting talking to a ham whose radio tubes were not quite warm enough and you had to chase their slowly shifting signal up or down the band until their radio was stabilized on frequency. Fortunately, modern radios have little to no receiver drift thanks to state of the art components and improved circuit design. Usually right on frequency out of the box. 73 OM de K3WR.

Attracted to vintage radios like a moth to a flame, all controls on face plate, analog meter ; ) Then I remind myself how superior modern radios are with Spectrum Display, noise reduction filtering, sensitivity, selectivity, Other than spectrum display it doesn't matter much in my operating manner ; ) Got couple vintage Ten-Tec radios and ICOM IC-751 that still function well.
It isn't clear to me why the radio's configuration ("programming") was lost unless you needed to do a RESET operation after removing the jumper. In the 2900 series, I believe that a reset step (pressing three buttons while turning radio on) was needed.
Thanks, yes think that's the case. i regularly hear a warble sound on his signal and he lives over near the airport. We are going to set up a better video soon, aircraft we bounced off of was a FedEx cargo plane and it takes off every night at 10:00 p.m., I'll definitely get a higher quality video up of it.
